Ugliest Cat Delights Vet’s Clientele in Exeter NH
How appropriate that, on the first day of March — the month that roars in like a lion — I should be posting about a can with a lion-like mane.
Yesterday morning I was bombarded with emails insisting that I take a look at what is arguably the World’s Ugliest Cat.
As you can see from the photo above, the cat is strikingly unique. His full name is “Ugly Bat Boy,” and he sports Sphinx-like baldness except for a lush mane on the front of his body. He spends most of his time atop a warm computer at Exeter Veterinary Hospital, where he is vet Stephen Bassett’s prized pet. Dr Bassett’s clients take cell phone photos of him and lavish him with affection, and Bat Boy willingly complies. “He’s just great,” says veterinary employee Christie Hartnett. “He’s Dr. Bassett’s little wonder cat.”

Bat Boy was one in a four-kitten litter, with a sister who looked exactly like him. The sister died at only a few weeks old. It didn’t take long for Dr Bassett to fall in love with Bat Boy. “The owner knew that I liked the way the sister looked, and I came in from lunch one day and this cat was sitting in a cage, and the owner said Dr. Bassett liked this cat, so that’s it,” Bassett said. Now he has the run of the place.
Everyone who knows him praises Bat Boy’s disposition and real inner beauty. The office staff was getting bombarded with so many questions about Bat Boy that they now display a few fliers saying he’s about 8 years old and perfectly normal in every way — just ugly.
I think he’s very handsome. It’s too bad they gave him such an awful name though. Instead he should have been named something regal to offset his substantially different look!
Since this cat is only 3 miles from us I hope to go visit him sometime and see the real deal : )
We don’t think he’s ugly at all. He looks very leonine and exotic. Like a wizard.
He’s cute! By they need to brush the poor boy’s mane! Bet he looks awesome brushed. Hairless creatures are really cool, and always warm to the touch. Wonder if he wears sweaters when it’s cold?

he’s gorgeous. like a lion. i agree with Sharon, he should have a better name. i like the idea of Leo, since he looks like a lion. he even has a regal walk, like lions do.
Oh I think he is awesome. He is different and different is Cool! He looks well loved. Maybe his mane is a bit of a mess cause he gets petted so much.

At age 8, it might be kind of late for a complete name change, but they should definitely remove the “Ugly” designation…Not only is it unkind, but it’s untrue! Bat Boy is a handsome and distinguished gentleman! (I can’t be too objective, as believe it or not, some folks have called my finest feature, my curly tail, “ugly”! I say: Hooray for unique cats!)
Yeah the name is bad bad bad.. But Im sure its to late to change it now.. Poor little guy. Give him some grooming pleeze! Make his mane Lion-like and beautiful.
He isn’t ugly at all, but very exotic and handsome. Hes probably one of the cutest things on this planet! How rare and exotic, no?
