Two-faced Kitten born in Australia
Karen Nichols

Imagine veterinarian George Huber’s surprise when a cat he was helping through labor gave birth to a two-faced kitten in Perth, Australia.

The mother suffered complications during the birthing process, so was brought into the Swan Veterinary Clinic. She subsequently gave birth to three kittens, the smallest of whom had an extra face, the result of a congenital deformity — something went haywire early in its embryonic development. Otherwise, the cat appears healthy. His siblings had no deformities.

The kitten can eat from just one mouth because of a cleft palate, but it able to meow with both mouths simultaneously. And his ability to purr has not been affected.

The kitten’s owners are thinking of calling it either Mr Men or Quasi Modo.

UPDATE: Sadly, the two-faced kitten lost its battle for life yesterday. You can read more here.

A little odd, but that kitten’s soooo cute!!! Mommy wanted to pet it through the computer screen! :) Glad it’s healthy otherwise and the people aren’t freaked out about it. May it have a long, healthy, happy life.

On the other paw, iz not that big a deal. Two-faced hoomans are created in Washington and Hollywood all the timez.

Such an adorable lil blessing. I would imagine as long as there are no other deformities internally and it can eat just fine, it can live a long and happy life. I just hope the family doesn’t let it become a side show … he or she is so adorable.

It doesn’t look freakish or unsettling at all. Both faces are so well deveoped and beautiful! I hope he is fine in all other ways and has no neurological problems and has a wonderful forever home and a vet closeby to help watch over it. What a miracle!
    Purrrrs for you, little one.

Such a sweet little thing. This happened in 2006 in the States. Can’t remember which state. The story made international news. Unfortunately 2 days after being born someone supposedly stole it and it was never found. I have a feeling the mother took the little guy and had him put to sleep as she couldn’t keep her young children away from him and it was in distress.

i’m glad he lived as long as he did. i was just hoping he’d live as long a life as a cat i saw on Weird, True, and Freaky on Animal Planet several weeks ago. such a sweety, it’s really too bad such a lovely kitten passed.

It not fair. It was such purty, kitty both of thems. I know it safe in heaven with other kitties like it and lots of love but there was love fur it on earth. So why couldn’t it stay?
