Tribute to Catster Superstar, Scooter
One of the most difficult aspects of participating in a vibrant cat community like Catster is experiencing the loss of cats you have come to love as if they were your own. The last month has been especially rough on me. A few weeks ago, one of my first online cat friends, Kalin, went the Rainbow Bridge at the age of nearly 19 after battling cancer, diabetes, and the encroachment of old age. I still can’t type Kalin’s name without tearing up. This week, another of my dearest online feline friends, Jake, was diagnosed with cancer. (He, too, went to the Bridge on Feb 5th.) I ache over living a continent away from Jake’s mom, unable to embrace her in a big warm hug.
And so I felt suckerpunched when, minutes after hearing Jake’s diagnosis, I learned that 20-year-old Scooter, Catster extraordinaire, had taken a turn for the worse. She made her journey to the Rainbow Bridge today.
If you weren’t a purrsonal friend of Scooter, you may recognize her photo from her popular entries in the World’s Coolest Cat Show, or from an interview Skeezix did with her last Fall, or perhaps you remember when she was Catster’s Cat of the Day. For a cat who napped 23-1/2 hours a day, Scooter got a lot done. She was one of the founders of the Olde Furts group on Catster, a vital group that provides support and camaraderie for cats who don’t move quite as fast as they used to.
Scooter was always there with encouraging purrs and paw-holding as members grappled with age-related issues.
Or, you might know Scooter from last summer’s “Summer of Scooter” group, a self-proclaimed “Woodstock for Kitties,” a Festival of Peace, Love, Music, Catnip, Naps, Streaking and Chicken Baby Food. It just doesn’t get much better than that, although there were a whole lot more naps than streaking!
Raypod was especially close to Scooter, and his mom visited her in Albuquerque :
I tried all yesterday to write about my darling Scooter, but it’s hard to type when your paws are soaking wet.
Now that ain’t right! Because along with being sweet, sensitive, thoughtful and smart, Scooter was funny as hell! I laughed out loud every time I got one of her poop reports. They were so detailed (and frequent) that Coco’s Department of Homeland
Security made her a Poop Advisory Color System chart to keep track. For a while she sent us daily Monk-e-mails that made her look like one of The Jeffersons, sound like Dame Edna, and cause my Mom to blow coffee out of her nose at work.
Scooter fell asleep at parties, but she did know how to have fun. When my brother Mouse started his gallery, Mouseworks, she created some very original “earth art” by digging up corn kernels in her back yard. One of Baby’s first friends, Scooter co- founded Olde Furts with her. But it took Scooter to transform a cranky Meezers’ refuge into a source of hope and help, good humor and hugs for hundreds of Catster’s aging kits. Old age ain’t fur sissies, and Scooter was up to the task.
Sometimes I think of Scooter as Catster’s Princess Di, just a bit long in the tooth. Her skill, as her profile read, was love. Nobody didn’t love Scooter. And Scooter loved everyone back. Her gift, I think, was for seeing—not so much the best in everyone, although that was often the case, but rather for seeing just what made you, you. She was a great connoisseur. What else would a classy lady like Scootie be doing with a naughty boy like me? And a Democat at that?
Catster is a community built on intangibles: love, imagination, compassion and memory. So even as Scootie leaves the physical plane her spirit remains as one of the cornerstones of our community. But at this sad time we must also remember that these cats are beautiful avatars; what animates them, for all of us, what makes them what they are, is the people who love them in real time.
And for Scooter’s parents, life won’t be the same. No snoozing Scooter in the sunny window perched on her favorite sofa, not to sleepy to tell an interloper, “Hiss off.” No skinny Scooter teetering gamely along as she “walks the line” in her backyard, looking for lizards, daring that roadrunner to make another appearance. No Scootie, so silly in her baby buggy. Or lying on their legs at night.
Scooter was my entire family’s friend and my "secret fiancé." We loved her with all our hearts and will miss her every day—as will all her Catster friends. But it’s to Bonnie and Dean that we must send our love, our appreciation, and our most comforting purrs.
One of Scooter’s best friends, Daisy, remembers how she first met Scooter:
I met Scooter just before Valentine’s Day in 2006. I had been on Catster about 6 months and was just starting to know some cats. I don’t remember where I saw it, but Scooter posted that if you wanted a special Valentine from her to send her
your address. So I did. And one of my dearest friendships here on Catster was begun. The Valentine is still on our refrigerator.
Scooter has always been so helpful to me and Mom when we try to do fancy stuff on the computer. And she was so nice and helpful to other cats. My Mom went out to Albuquerque in October and got to meet Scooter in person. She said she was sweet and beautiful, just like she is on Catster. Scooter’s Dad gave us some special pictures of her that we will always cherish.
Scoodle … we love you and your parents so much. We are so sad that you have to leave us, but we will always remember your sweet face and your cute voice. Sending you hugs and purrs as you make your way to the Bridge.
Another Catster Superstar, Calvin, shared his memories of Scooter:
I’m all about my friend-girl, Scooter – Scootie Patootie.
I’m all about how she was my first Pal of the Week back in November of 2006.
I’m all about the way she helped me find my “U” friend, Ug, when I was making my alphabet of friends.
I’m all about the cuddle bed her Mom made for me.
I’m all about when she told me her middle name was Calvin so she could be a Calvinette in my Cool Calvin Club.
I’m all about the way she took napping so seriously.
I’m all about the Olde Furts group she administered.
I’m all about the way she flirted with me, and told me we could date when she turned 21, and we didn’t have to wait until I turned 21.
I’m all about cougars.
I’m all about how she was my Pal of the Week again the first week in 2009.
I’m all about how she loved the orange boys.
I’m all about how she sounded like a sheep when she meowed.
I’m all about her smarts, her beauty, and her friendship.
I’m all about knowing we will all miss her so much.
I’m all about knowing she will be the Queen of the Rainbow Bridge, just like she is the Queen of Catster!

Cybil and her family shared her memories of Scooter:
Our family friendship with Scooter
began on June 19, 2005, Fathers Day, just 1 ½ months after she joined Catster. Scooter was kind enough to add Moses and I to her Diary entry that day. A small gesture that went a long way towards a timeless friendship.
3 ½ years, many laughs, tears, parties, and pmails later, we are filled with good memories of Scooter and her family. She’s been one lucky girl, relaxing outside with the Roadrunners and Plumbago, sneaking through the grass and walking the line. And that was just the outside stuff! Whether sleeping next to the computer in her heated bed, sleeping on moms legs or dads lap, she lived life in comfort. Her mom and dad have always been aware of the angel they had in Scooter. Her friends were the fortunate ones who were able to know it too.
Love you Scooter.
Cooter’s family will miss Scooter’s sisterly love:
What we can meow about dear S+Cooter is the same as many will meow: she is elegant, caring, helpful, thoughtful and adorably lovely.
She is one of my precious ’s’ girls and always will be.
My sisfur Sissy has proclaimed Scooter as her big sister for always being there for her with advice and sisterly love. The Olde Furts group brought them closer together and they spent many meowvelous moments together.
My little brother Luke was the first to ever pmail her in April of 2006. Since then he has been smitten, as many of us are… He loved her because she was fun & silly, and he admired her in every way.
S+Cooter always remembers our birthdays, she always has comforting meows and is always attentive in the Catster community. She was an angel on earth, and she will continue to be one at the bridge.
We love you!
whisker kisses, (S)Cooter
Scooter’s friend Edgar has fond memories of Scooter:
Scooter, your delicate, sooty paws walked across my heart one day and left an imprint that will stay there furrever. You have been so kind and gracious to me and my furmily.
When my sisfur, Emily Felicity, embarrassed herself in Olde Furts, you reached out to her to offer your wisdom and comfort.
You have laid your lovely paw on so many cats and touched their lives and their hearts. You saw how much we loved the Olde Furts and honored us by asking us to become administrators. You enchanted us with your beautiful pictures and videos, you amused us with your diaries and messages in the group. And I can honestly say… (no offense to any other meezers out there) you are the most beautiful meezer girl effur. I, and my furmily, will always love you dear Scooter.
Edgar wrote the following poem for Scooter, and she meowed about it in her diary:
Now, in the cold of Winter
We think back, with a happy sigh
To the Summer of Scooter
and long fur those days, gone by
We long fur those days in the sun,
When we celebrated Scooter, our furriend
And we all had so furry much fun
And we all wished that it neffur would end!
As we nap through the Winter, we dream
And in sleep it all becomes clear,
That the sun will on all of us beam
And our dear Scooter will always be here.
No matter the middle of Winter,
No matter the waning of light,
We forever and always have Scooter
Because in our hearts, she shines bright.
Like many Siamese, Scooter was a fighter, and we were hopeful that she’d rally from this latest setback. But it was time for her to be released from her frail body and make her way to join those we’ve loved before. We light her way to the Bridge with love, tears and happy memories, thankful to have known this very special, very generous soul.

We are very sorry to hear about Scooter. We don’t get to Catster all that often any more (it seems that darned facebook takes up so much time!). We should go have Georgia join the Old Furts group though!
Fly free Sweet Angel Scooter. You will be missed.

We are all sad tonight, but we noticed the sky was a beautiful shade of pink, and I’m sure Scootie had something to do with that! We send love and purrs to her Mom and Dad tonight. She lives forever in our hearts.
It’s a sad day for Catster and for the Olde Furt group in particular. Scootie was a wonderful friend to everycat. Thanks for the lovely tribute, Skeezix. And thank you to Scooter’s humans, Bonnie & Dean, for sharing Scooter with all of us. The sky is crying here in Santa Cruz, CA.
Scooter you make a meezer proud! I know Scooter through my dad, Ashley. He was in “The Olde Furts Group”. A wonderful group on Catster. It is not always an easy group to be in as we see friends depart at the end of their journey here with us. We wish Scooter a brilliant journey to what is next We wish to leave her family a reminder that Scooter is very much alive in our hearts here on Catster as well. Thank you Scooters Mom for all you do! She has been blessed to have such a wonderful family.
Love,
Rue Rue, Mom Brenda and Family
It is fitting that after many many days of sunny wether, the sky heer is crying tears for Scooter rite now.
Thank you, Skeezix for this wonderful tribute. Scooter was such a kind an wonderful meezer. She was one of our first friends on Catster and never had a bad word to say about anyone. She will be missed terribly.
Scooter has also been a wonderful friend to our family. She was always there with words of encouragement when one of us was sick. She comforted us when our dear Flinders crossed the bridge. Thanks for honoring her with this tribute, Skeezix. We will miss her but know she will always be the heart of Catster.
Scooter overflowed with kindness for all. Her patience with the young ones and words of wisdom (coupled with her adorable giggle too) for all of us is truly insPURRational. The world is a better place because of Scooter. I’m crying Italian tears
The tails at HQ are flying at half mast for you, our dear furiend. Thanks for helping so many other kitties out along the way and for doing your part to make a community that we can all be purroud of.
Meows, purrs and headbutts furrever,
Catster Cat
I am so sad to hear that Scooter passed to the bridge today. Scooter was a real good furriend to me and my furramily and I are very sad that she is at the bridge. We are purraying for her furramily. Thank you, Scooter, for being my furriend. Our furriendship will continue even though you are at the bridge. I love you very much and am going to miss you very much!
Love,
Hailey and furramily
Thank you Skeezix for this tribute to Scooter. She was so kind and helpful to us and I think we fell in love with the Olde Furts group in large part due to Scooter’s purrfect touch in her administration of that group. Words fail me.
What a wonderful tribute to a wonderful girl. I’ve never heard anything but kind words about Scooter. She showed us all how to live and I will be among the many who will miss her so much.
Love,
Mercy
Scooter, a legend for us siamese.

Scooter was there for me when I needed a helping hand. She generously sent me an IV stand to hold my fluids so it would be easier for my CRF therapy. She helped me with needles. And she gave my whole family a wonderful Catster Christmas gift.
I am SO grateful she got to have her fun Christmas and see the stocking I sent her because I very much had a crush on her mol. My family and I are so grateful to have her and her wonderful family as our friends. She’ll be forever in our hearts and thoughts and dreams.
I love you, Scootie.
A much loved cat has passed over to the Rainbow Bridge.
Though I didn’t know Scooter very well, I have enjoyed her wisdom, and kind humor. Scooter, I am hoping your journey from this earth to the sweet summer at the Bridge has been a gentle one.
I send my deepest sympathy to her family and friends.
Until we meet again.
Love,
Meohmy and gang
Our hearts are heavy as this special earthbound Angel ascends to Heaven. Scooter, you have left your delicate pawprint on so many lives. We are so purroud to have had you touch ours.

What a great tribute to Scooter. Thank you for doing that for her, her family and friends.
I had to go thru her catster photo album and look at all her cute pictures again.
How can there be Catster without Scooter? Thanks for your friendship and for defining the Catster experience. Our hearts go out to your family, and the families of all angel kitties.
-Milagrito, Sirenita and Cris
We’ve been friends with Scooter since she first joined Catster. We feel so fortunate to have been a friend of hers. She gave us many laughs with her outlook on life. We will never forget those stories or her. This was a very fitting tribute to her. Rest in peace dear Scootie. We’ll always love you and oh will we ever miss you.
Love and purrs,
Louis LeBeau & Ethan
I am so glad Scooter got a speciatl Catster tribute. After 20 years of love and napping, she deserved it. You are an inspiration to all us Cats Scooter. Enjoy the beautiful Rainbow Bridge! Love, Chelsea Louise
I treasure the short time with my Olde Furte gal pal. Purrhaps Catster could create an annual SCOOTER Award in her honor – she lives on and on in all of us and this would allow her meowvalous magical self to touch the lives of others furever.
Love, Blessings and Purrs to Scooter’s Family and thank you Skeezix for allowing us to mourn our loss together.
Baci & Yolo
From Devastated MacIntosh & Pixel:
Our uncle Jaguar is typing this for us because our distraught moma lost internet connection today. Scootie Patootie was our furst and dearest furiend on Catster. She provided loving support while our moma’s papa was dying. She loved us through many issues, and has been wonderful beyond purrs. Today our elder brofur Popka, was among the throng of kitties greeting her at the Rainbow Bridge. Those many of us still left on earth, weep with and for her family, and will grieve her passing forever.
Beautiful Scooter… Godspeed… Scooter was grace and dignity all rolled into one with beauty inside and out. She will be all that and more as an angel kitty now… We send many many blessings of love and comfort to Scooter’s beloved and loving family… we wish you countless naps in that warm New Mexico sun now Scooter, and no need to shield your eyes anymore…
Scooter Scooter Bo Booter has been a dear friend to our family since we joined Catster my years ago. We are so lucky — no, blessed — to have known the beautiful Scooter all these years, and we thank mom Bonnie for sharing with us the stories of such a wonderful kitty. Scooter touched our family with love, compassion, advice and friendship. And chicken baby food would have never been eaten in this household without the recommendation from Scooter!
It is hard to imagine a Catster without our Scooter.
We will forever miss her.

We’re so sad to hear that Scooter has moved on to Rainbow Bridge. She will be remembered and loved always.
Our hearts are both sad to see you leave us and so blessed to have known you! You are now young again and free from the problems that plagued you on earth. You made a pawprint in the hearts of all who knew you. We love you, Scootie!
Kujo and furmily
Rest in Peace sweet Scooter…
We didn`t know you that well but our mom knows the the loss of many dear kitties she has had in her life…
May you shine brightly with the stars in the sky…
Hello Skeezy, Today is a sad day for us. We just wrote Scooter yesterday and today we have heard she has left us for cat heaven. She will be sadly missed by us Meezers, but we know she is happy now. That was a wonderful tribute you made for her. Bosco.

~Twixy & Mom
Scooter had the biggest heart. She never forgot anyone. I was lucky to know Scootie through her wonderful Olde Furts group. We send our purrs to Scooter’s family and feel their sadness. Here are a few lines from a favorite poem of mine.
If I should ever leave you whom I love
To go along the Silent Way, grieve not.
Nor speak of me with tears, but laugh and talk
Of me as if I were beside you there….
And when you hear a song or see a bird
I loved, please do not let the thought of me
Be sad…..For I am loving you just as
I always have….
And we are loving you, Miss Scootie.
We’ve only been on Olde Furts for a little more than a year and we don’t post too often, but Scootie Bootiful Siamoosie (as Jake liked to call her) always had a way of making us feel special, especially Jake the Big Lug (not the Jake in this blog who has cancer). Scooter was so helpful when we were trying to do stuff with our pages. And she went out of her way to say she missed us if we hadn’t been posting. Mom is so honored that her Digital scrapbooking offerings to Scootie are amongst her pictures because Scootie Bootiful Siamoosie is so special and always will hold a special place in our hearts. *sniff sniff*
I am so devastated at the loss for Scootie’s Mom and Dad. But somewhere over the Rainbow Scootie is enjoying the Perpetual Summer of Scooter. I will always miss her. I will always remember her.
Oh Scooter,
You were the epitome of grace and Siamese sexiness, even in your Old Furt years, you still reminded me of a beautiful movie star, like Lauren Bacall…
And with such grace, you made the transition with the love and kisses of your family. That is a peaceful treasure that will help their hearts heal.
We all loved you so…You are who we think of when we think Catster!
Teri and the cats of Furrydance
…And God asked the feline spirit
Are you ready to come home?
Oh, yes, quite so, replied the precious soul
And, as a cat, you know I am most able
To decide anything for myself.
Are you coming then? asked God.
Soon, replied the whiskered angel
But I must come slowly
For my human friends are troubled
For you see, they need me, quite certainly.
But don’t they understand? asked God
That you’ll never leave them?
That your souls are intertwined. For all eternity?
That nothing is created or destroyed?
It just is….forever and ever and ever.
Eventually they will understand,
Replied the glorious cat
For I will whisper into their hearts
That I am always with them
I just am….forever and ever and ever.
We first met Scootie Patootie through her invitation to join the Olde Furts group. We were relatively new to Catster, and Mommy was desperate to find information on specific health problems that we have. Scootie’s invitation was such a blessing! Through her, we have met so many wonderful friends, received health advice and suggestions, and Mommy was able to keep a little bit of her sanity.
We always thought of sweet Scootie as an angel here on earth. Now she has the beautiful wings to prove it.
We love you, Scooter. Please know that you will always hold a special place in our hearts.
Much love to you, your Mommy, and your Daddy.
Love,
Sheppy, JoJo, and Kate
Scooter will be sadly missed. We send our purrs and butterfly kisses to her family. Catster is in part the furrendly community we love because of her.
Scooter -May the road rise up to meet you, may the wind be ever at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face and the rain fall softly on your fields. And until we meet again, May God hold you in the hollow of his hand.
Purrs and love, Alexander, Ra, Utu, Foxey (at the Bridge), Marmalade, Smokey and Blackie (at the Bridge).
Scooter, we will always love you and are devastated at your loss. Our hearts go out to your mom and dad know that we will remember you always. With loving hearts, purrs and kisses, Catster Daphne and Mom Giniene
My real tribute I sent to his Meowmie. But I still wanted to leave a warm and loving headbonk here.
Everyone on Catster has been blessed by knowing Scooter and she was a kitty fulll of love and compassion. She has touched our lives in one way or another and I know she knows how deeply she was loved. My heart and prayers go to her family!
Scooter looked exactly like my princess. This feb.9th is two years since princess left us.She also passed away from cancer at the age of eight,So I can understand how your feeling right now.
Scootie, I am still at a loss for words. Your departure from this world is devastating. And I have never even met you. I cannot imagine the pain your Mom and Dad are experiencing. I hope it helps to know that we love them, too.
Rest in Peace, sweet friend! If you can, grace us with your presence. We still need your sense of humor and kindness and, most of all, your grit, and we always will. We love you, Scooter~Our Angel!
I can’t believe you are gone, Scooter! Your mom and dad are going to miss you terribly! My Mom had the joy of watching you when your Mom and Dad went away from home, and you were a sweetie to get to know.
We are sad that you are gone, even though you are at the Rainbow Bridge…we are sad because we know how much you meant to your Mom and Dad.
Rest in peace, Scooter, and our purrayers are going out to comfort your Mom and Dad…I know they are shedding many, many tears for you.
Sasha and Family
To A Siamese
I shall walk in the sun alone
Whose golden light you loved:
I shall sleep alone
And, stirring, touch an empty place:
I shall write uninterrupted
(Would that your gentle paw
Could stay my moving pen just once again!).
I shall see beauty
But none to match your living grace:
I shall hear music
But not so sweet as the droning song
With which you loved me.
I shall fill my days
But I shall not, cannot forget:
Sleep soft, dear friend,
For while I live you shall not die.
Michael Joseph.
We have posted on the Summer of Scooter group and the forums, but we wanted to post here too. Scooter was a special friend. She shared our home town and she played detective games with us. She was our accomplice in the Blue Brothers caper and she and her mom were kind enough also to help us make some lovely pages.
We admired Scooter for the grace with which she grew older and her pawrents for the special love they showed her.
We know Scooter is gone from this earth, but she will never be forgotten. She touched so many on Catster. She is young again at the Bridge and, no doubt, enjoying the sun and chasing roadrunners.
We miss you, Scooter!
Scooter and Nikko
Scooter,
It has been a blessing to know you and you will be greatly missed by many. Remembering the time you and I won the look-alike contest makes me smile. Our prayers go out to your family that they find comfort in their memories of you, as I have.
Love,
Your “twin”
Scooter…
We met you in Old Furts and will always love you because of all the joy you brought to our lives there.
Me and my brofur Punkin and Angel Bobcat always too your advise and words of wisdom to heart.
You were wise beyond your years…
20 years of memories…we had that with Bobcat(ilm) and hope that Moozer and Punkin are lucky enough to live that long…but never long enough.
Scootie, you will be missed, but never forgotten.
purrrs of love,

Oh, Scooter . . . my favorite cat buddy.
My family and I are in tears. We can hardly begin to imagine how Scooter’s family is feeling. Was there ever a cat more loved than Scooter!!?? I don’t think so. Our hearts go out to Scooter’s purrsons.
No matter how hard we tried to prepare ourselves for this news, we could never be ready. Heck, we got so attached to Scooter that we’d sometimes play the audio clip of Scooter talking away as only a Siamese can.
My purrson sez she’s known many wonderful cats over the decades, but she’s sure that there will never be another online buddy so beloved or so missed as dear darling Scooter.
RIP, dear one! Speical purrs & headbutts, Ani Siamese
Scootie … this one’s fur you, beautiful girl.
S … T … R … E … A … K … !
Oh no, dear. I’m truly sorry about Scooter passing. It’s hard to deal with elder cat being gone. My cat Speedy was gone at 18 1/2 years old in 2003. I put him in Rainbow Bridge. It is very nice website. Now Scooter follow you everywhere.
God bless Scooter and I’m praying for you and your family’s grievence.

Scooter was one awesome kitty. She was such an inspiration to all of us in the Olde Furts group. She always had a kind word, and something encouraging to say whenever one of us was sick. She was there with advice to those families dealing with senior kitties. She was just such a wonderful friend to so many. She is going to be greatly missed by any who had come to know and love her.
We first met Scooter almost 3 years ago, as the intrepid admin of Olde Furts, and we came to love her (and her Mom’s!) spunk, style, and bottomless kindness. Practical and playful, she truly has been our fearless leader in good times and in bad, sharing wisdom and perspective and the gritty determination of a survivor, always generous with helpful words AND tangible deeds. She allowed a fast-growing group whose focus originally was health-related to flower (and even freewheel a little) into a multi-faceted celebration of the lives of older cats, while helping literally hundreds of “furts” and their guardians through the difficulties of chronic illnesses and saying goodbye. She will be dearly missed.
I never knew the extent most of my life of the connection that we humans can have with the furry find counter parts of our lives. All my life i have been greatly allergic to almost everything ,so i never really got too close to pets, I did know i liked them , but never really thought of the relationship that people have with their pets.I now wonder why ,I let my allergies ever stop me from being close to my fuzzy friends before . I would far rather pass away, being loved and tortured by the devotion of Cats and Dogs than be miserable do to allergies . The only allergy i have a very hard time with now ,is the loss of any of my special fuzzy friends ,and like how you feel today about your loss ,I do have sympathy ,for the loss of even our little friends tears a big piece of heart out of us it seems with the pain of our loss. You mentioned them going to the Rainbow Bridge and you know if the are not too busy meeting their friends again ,that they are looking down on you , mybe if you listen hard enough with your heart you’ll hear them say it’s ok. Buddy’s Dad sends his regard to all that face this loss ,for he to still misses many a special fuzzy friend.
Scooter, you always reached out to everycat, and made us all feel like such a welcome part of your world. Your legacy of bringing Olde Furts together through your kindness and wisdom lives on. Peace be with you and yours, Sweet Lady!
