The House of Lords looks like a Ratatouille Set

Currently under consideration in The House of Lords: Should it resolve its vermin infestation with cats, or continue using poison and traps?

catandmousegameYep, London’s Houses of Parliament, also known as Westminster Palace, has mice and rats, and the peers aren’t exactly sure what to do about it.

Ivan Anthony Moore-Brabazon, the House’s administration chief, on Wednesday turned down suggestions to acquire cats. He says the felines could ingest mice poison or wander around the chamber and disrupt business.

He’s pro the status quo: using poison and mousetraps.

The vermin have been seen daily in the palace’s restaurants and bars, like a scene from Ratatouille.

Nearby theaters in London’s West End are facing similar problems, with three-quarters of actors and stage managers reporting infestations of mice, rats and fleas, according to The Guardian newspaper.

I dunno, sounds like a no-brainer to me. A clowder or two of cats would fix them right up. They could adopted from local shelters which is not just a good thing to do, but one that would likely generate good PR. Win-Win. — Karen

Using cats to control mice and rats is the greenest thing to do and will give homes and employment to cats from shelters. As long as they use just cats and remove all the poison then there’s no risk of poisoning.

I forgot to add that just having cats in the buildings will often scare off mice and rats even if they are not great mousers. The mice and rats will find somewhere else to live where there isn’t the smell of predators.

That doesn’t change the fact that they just don’t want cats wandering around the place and being annoying.

    Cats being annoying? No way!

If the rodents have ingested any poison, it could harm the cats, so I see that.
However, I don’t think that there is a politician out there that couldn’t benefit from a cat butt in the face.

I can vouch for the effectiveness of cats for mouse control. The only downside is that they sometimes leave the carcasses around the house and it starts to smell. I’ve been supplementing the cat method with electronic traps. I’m probably going to get those new Victor Multi-Kill traps since my current trap bit the dust.
