Teen Charged in Florida’s Serial Cat Murders

MIAMI (AP) — A teenager faces charges in a gruesome string of cat mutilations and killings that have horrified his neighbors and shaken animal lovers in two South Florida communities.
Tyler Hayes Weinman, 18, was charged Sunday with 19 counts each of animal cruelty and improperly disposing of an animal body and four counts of burglary related to the deaths.
“I hope it’s not true,” 77-year-old Robert Ehrman said about the teen, who lives across the street from her in Cutler Bay. He called his mother a “lovely person,” but said he didn’t know the teen well. “It’s like a death in the family, I’m sure.”
Weinman was taken into custody at a party and was being questioned at Miami-Dade police headquarters. Four of the confirmed cat killings were reported on the street where Weinman lived.
According to online jail records, Weinman was being held on $154,500 bond. Jail officials said a court date was been set for July. An e-mail sent to a lawyer who represents Weinman and a telephone message were not immediately returned.
The curtains at the small, beige house in the Cutler Bay neighborhood listed on Weinman’s arrest affidavit were drawn shut and there were no cars in the driveway. Knocks at the red front door went unanswered. A welcome mat dotted with pictures of paw prints playfully encouraged visitors to “wipe your paws,” and a yellow and black crime watch sticker was displayed in the home’s front window.
A similar crime watch sticker was displayed in the window at another address for Weinman in nearby Palmetto Bay, along with a red and black warning that told rescue crews a cat lived in the house, in case of a fire. Lights were on inside, but no one answered the door.
Messages left at phone numbers for his parents were also not immediately returned.

This young man needs to be locked away for good. Anyone who would hurt/kill a defenseless little animal could also hurt a human. They say that is how alot of serial killers start out.

This boy must have very serious problems with cats because he doesn’t kill any animal aside from cats. There must be more reasons of his act. Anyhow, this boy must face whatever punishment he will be given and must be given treatment of his attitude.

Dang…dood like that is scary on so many levels. I’m glad they caught him because psychopaths START with animals and work their way up. The question is what they’ll do with him. “Help” may not help and they probably can’t keep him forever…
I feel horrible for this awful teen’s victims. Innocent animals don’t deserve to be tortured an’ executed. He should be sentenced to live in prison as he’ll escalate to humans next. Justice, justice, justice … an’ retribution!

The hurt, pain and sadness they were feeling – the not understanding why it was happening…it breaks my heart to think there are more people like him out there who never get caught. They take advantage of the legal system because the consquences and punishments are not severe enough. People who kill animals out of meaness should face the same punishment as if it were a human being they slaughtered. I ‘ll tell you one thing – I love my cats, and look at them as part of my family, All I have to say is if I ever catch a animal abuser they better pray the cops get there as quick as posible!

This young man is a sociopath. He is obviously full of rage and is without conscience. He needs to be removed from society permanently. Our laws are not tough enough when it comes to animal abuse and murder. I can imagine the horror and suffering of those innocent beings. It makes me sick and it breaks my heart.
