Tatts on Cats?

Mickey, a hairless Sphynx cat, was recently subjected to a three-hour tattoo session, during which a King Tut tatt was inked onto the skin of his neck and chest. Mickey was anesthetized for the procedure.
Mickey’s owner, Oksana Popova, decided to do so to celebrate the ‘interesting times’ that currently surround Russia.
She felt that the tattoo was both fitting and appropriate for her Sphynx, and she was delighted with the finished design.
Animal rights activists are outaged. Irina Novozhilova, an animal rights activist in Moscow, was outspoken in her disgust, decrying the procedure as barbaric and cruel.
Novozhilova said, “The ethical thinking about animals in Russia lacks behind that of the West. People in Russia mostly buy animals for selfish reasons and anything that happens to them afterwards is a consequence of that.”
Unfortunately, cat tattoos seem to be quite the rage in Russia.
Pro-tatt pet owners argue that it’s just like tattooing them for identification purposes (which happens to be far less extensive). Such identification tattoos are usually placed either on the inner leg of the cat, which of course requires shaving the cats hair, or inside of its outer ear and must be done by a veterinarian or a trained specialist. As microchip technology has improved, ID tatts have become far less common.
I’m aghast. Ornamental pet tatooing is a sickening practice from which all pets should be protected.
What about you? Are you ready to head down to the Tattoo Parlor with Fluffy, or do you think people who do this should be tortured in unmentionable ways?

That’s crazy! Anesthetizing a pet for something purely cosmetic is risking its life for the owners’ vanity!!! It should be outlawed just like other cosmetic procedures (think tails & ears).
The Russians have a different and to us Europeans, a slightly barbaric attitude to animals. I can understand how this is acceptable to them. Me, I find the whole thing so upsetting that all I want to do is whisk the little beast off to safety.

Are you kidding me??!? This is horrible! My two cats have tattoos, but they were done by a vet at the same time they were spayed, and were put there for a good reason. I can’t believe a vet would even do this, let alone the jackass owners!
I have the spay tattoo. That and ID tatts are fine but this “art,” while not ugly, is just wrong and potentially dangerous to the cat. It should be outlawed.
We are hairless and although mommy has a tattoo, she would never get one for us. Mommy knows from experience how painful they are as they heal and that would not be fair to do to a kitty. I think its very selfish of these kitty owners.
I love tattoos -ON PEOPLE. People who can make their own decisions to put up with the pain and after care.
Doing this to animals for art is just wrong! Wrong like tatooing your 2 year old. Wrong because they have no way to say this is ok or this is not ok. WRONG!!!!
We saw a book online a while back with lots of tattooed kitties in it and we think it is an awful thing to do. It should be made illegal.
it is most definitely against the animals will. if fluffy said, “mom i want a tattoo”; cool, but we can’t. it is also inflicting pain for no ethical reason. lastly anesthesia is dangerous!!!! even homans sign a release for it at the hospital. FYI, our mom & dad have tattoos. they didn’t think the procedure was pleasant, so they would not subject us to that.
I cannot believe that these people think it’s art…
That is just so wrong! No animal should be put through that.
I am appalled at this, cats cannot speak and have a say so. Do you see dogs with tattoos? I just think that person is selfish in pleasing themselves, very uncaring of the chances that this could hurt the cat emotionally and physically.
Ok, thinking animal cruelty here!!!!!
It doesn’t phase them like it doesn’t phase a human to get a tattoo. it’ll itch when it heals but that’s the worst of it. They don’t care. It’s the stupidest thing I’ve ever seen, but it isn’t curel.
Holy carp. People can decide for themselves if they want ink, a kitty cannot. It doesn’t matter if they’re anesthetized–it still hurts AFTER! The Woman has two tattoos and said afterward was worse than the actual tattooing because of the healing pain and the itching.
A tiny identifier tattoo, like a number on the ear…I can get down with that. But a “real” tattoo? That’s just projection on the part of the people, and they’re projecting a whole lot of selfishness and stupid.
if my cat ever gets a tattoo, it’ll be solely for identification purposes. i’m going to get my pets microchipped too, but alot of shelters in this area don’t have microchip readers and it’s not something pet owners have laying around.
The people who do that to poor animals should have the same thing done to them WITHOUT anesthesia!
It is animal cruelty, plain and simple.
absolutely animal cruelty!
Wow, what a cacophony of hypocrisy!
It’s okay for you to anaesthetise your pet for spaying but somehow putting ink under the skin is worse than removing/altering sex organs?
You decide what happens to your cat every day (food, shelter, warmth etc) and this is no different. If you own the cat then you can get it tattooed. You’ve made it your property whether you like it or not.
Heidi – People *do* get the same thing done without anaesthesia.
Beaver Cat – “Do you see dogs with tattoos”, how is this even and argument?
Marjorie – “The Russians have a … slightly barbaric attitude to animals”, any other racial generalisations you want to make?
Personally I think the tattoo is gaudy but then again I don’t own the cat and didn’t choose the design.
Don’t make the assumption that this little dear is not well loved just because you disagree with the owner’s choice.
Absolutely horrible! These poor little animals have fewer rights than children and should have the same rights. Tattoos are illegal and are a form of child abuse when performed on children in this country and the same should be true for animals: this is definitely animal abuse. And kitties are quiet about pain, too. Absolutely disgusting. These people should be ashamed of themselves for causing these little ones harm.
There was recently a story on some dangerous woman who offered kittens on Craigslist with piercings! She was brought up on charges of child abuse.
I don’t think this is cool at all. I have tattoos, and while I didn’t find them horribly painful, they may very well be painful for others, including animals. I think you should only tattoo those who can speak for themselves and sign a waiver for themselves.
Izn’t thizza ANIMAL CRUELTY???? Some dude just got arrested fur tatting his baby – whatza da difFURence in da baby and da kitty? Arrest da humans!
I will gladly accept that I’m hypocritical, if those people giving their pets decorative tattoos own up to being narcissistic. Sterilizing a pet is something our society has determined is necessary to reduce unwanted animals, animals who end up being euthanized in shelters. What purpose does decorative tattooing serve aside from 100% serving the owner’s emotional wants?
I know, why do we have pets in the first place but to serve our emotional needs. However, just because we “own” a pet doesn’t give us the right to do anything we want with “it”, including piercing, tattooing or otherwise. You’ll find in some areas of the world where de-clawing a cat has become illegal, like in England, France and Italy, because it causes too much suffering. With pet ownership comes responsibility and that means putting their welfare above our own petty needs and wants.
I am outraged that people are allowed to interbreed animals so that they result in characteristics that are not in the best survival interest of the animal (hairless). Anesthetizing and then tatooing an animal is just disgusting and selfish.
you`re … bad people, it`s cruel!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
you`re…bad people! it`s cruel!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ardeet, all your “clever” rebuttals do not excuse the fact that an animal was put under general anaesthetic and subjected to mental and physical stress for purely cosmetic reasons. If you can justify that, you can probably justify anything.
Well said Orkney!
Also – to spay an animal cuts down the risk of certain cancers (not sure about neutering) That is a health decision. This is just based on “how cool” they think it is. The poor cat looks so miserable in the picture. It is no different than people that use animals for fighting. Unfortunately there are those that view animals as objects. I think education and public outrage is needed for this.
The blame also needs to be laid upon the people willing to do the tatoo on a defenseless animal. They need to say no instead of just looking at $$$. I wonder how many animals will be lost due to incorrect anethesia too. It is so sad

The cat looks happy and healthy to me in the photo…
that’s fraking weak. tattoo him with an anchor nezt time
Oh the poor cat! Why didn’t his human think he was beautiful as he was? Isn’t that why people get Sphynx cats, for their unusual looks?
We hope that the animal activists in Russia get the word out that animals are good companions, but NOT property to do with whatever they wish!
This is barbaric!!
Horrible!!! I cannot imagine how a tattoo-ist would even agree to do this?!!!?!
odd and a unpleasant, but definitely not as bad as some of the posters above me make it out to be. while i wouldn’t support tattooing animals like that, i’m honestly surprised how hard you guys are taking it. why not focus on more important animal abuse issues? or better yet, focus on endangered animal abuse issues? or better yet, on human rights issues?
Who ever did the tattoo did great shading. It is an amazing job. And the pretty kitty looks happy.
Alex, I’m not disputing that there are worse things in the world than a tattooed family pet, but I think you will find that most of the above posters do also focus on other animal rights issues. The question was, what do you think of the tattooed cat, and that is the question they are answering. Also, I firmly believe human rights issues and animal rights issues are inter-related.
Oh get over yourselves it’s just a freaking cat. Personally I think it’s the owner’s decision: her cat, her choice. If you want to be outraged about something do it about something important, like actual people being tortured and killed in faraway countries. Get some perspective, people.
Yes, aggression and odious comparisons will motivate people every time, James.
This is wrong on every level. There’s no consent, and this is not a necessary procedure to maintain a cat’s life or health. And sadly, as no name pointed out, there are those who view animals as objects, which means that this type of abuse will likely continue.
Oh, and I agree with everything Orkney said.
Mom was shocked to find a tatoo on me.She guesses they put it there when I got fixed as a kitten but never saw it I have alot of fur and it wasn’t were they cut. Plus i’m a girl and it’s a line thur a circle. I got done with my brother. At least she was a sleep for the tatoo cuz mom has one and she said it hurt to get it. We think there’s better things to spend money on.That took some time to heal. But not our thing. Nice job though.

Quoting Ardeet: “It’s okay for you to anaesthetise your pet for spaying but somehow putting ink under the skin is worse than removing/altering sex organs?”
Are you saying that tattooing has health benefits just as spay/neutering does? If so, please educate us as to how.
This is cruel.
It’s NOT like for ID purposes, which is a tiny marking and brief. This is something that is terrible for the animal, it can cause death for some in the case of adverse reactions to the tattoo dye, as well as a reaction used to sedate them. This just shows how stupid and vain these people are. Why would anyone put an animal through this unless the person was in some way mentally ill or just deliberately cruel.
BTW, few breeds are tattooed now with microchip technology becoming more popular.
What a horrible thing to do to an animal that can’t speak for itself. Most people wouldn’t put a tattoo on their children. These people need to get a tattoo on themselves, leave the cats alone.
I’m covered in tattoos and would not subject my pets to that. The healing process alone can cause infection, especially on an animal that requires it’s own spit to clean itself.
that is absolutely disgusting. what was she thinking. oh wait, she wasn’t. this person is the type who should never be allowed to own a animal of any kind. if she is willing to do this to a cat, what else is she capable of. perhaps someone should forceably tattoo her with the words, “Animal Abuser”
i can not believe there is so much ignorance in russia about tatto on the poor cats whats with this people that support this kind of crap. unvalible, incredible. the poor cats can not talk they will beg not to fashion statement its more like animal cruelty.
How awful is that!!!! That is SOOOOO not cool at all!!! It should totally be stopped.
SORRY BUT THAT’S JUST WRONG TATTOOING ANIMALS SHOULD NOT HAPPEN TO ME IT’S THE SAME AS BRANDING LIVE STOCK AT LEAST PEOPLE HAVE THE CHOICE TO DECIDE IF THEY WANT TO HAVE INK ON THEM
this for julie and the 2 of you a pair of retards and freaky blind the cat do not look happy at all the 2 of you need some brain cells a go to the eye doctor the 2 of you should be ahsamed to even have the nerve to put a comment your poor poor poor pair of lucifiers.
julie and chris retards and blind the cat do not look happy at all do you are blind? do you have any brain cells? o let me anwer that no no no your pair of lucifiers .
When a human gets a tattoo it’s a decision that they’re making for themselves. To subject an animal to any procedure that is beyond their control for the satisfaction of having a ‘conversation starter’ or ‘piece of art’ painfully become a part of their pet’s appearance is reprehensible. In my view it’s also animal abuse. A tattoo artist that will agree to do this to a helpless creature is just as guilty as the owner who pays for it to be done. Any legitimate tattoo artist worth their salt (or in possession of a conscience) will refuse to comply. Your pet is NOT A CANVAS! If you want to purchase a beautiful artwork, visit a gallery, buy online, or take an art course yourself! Once more, people continue to amaze me in the most unpleasant ways.
The entire idea is stupid. One buys a cat for its natural beauty and charm, and as a companion, not as a canvas for art. As long as there is any danger of infection or from the anethesia, there is no excuse for this practice. I must admint, however, that cat looks pretty cool.
That’s is the most absolutely ridiculous thing I think I’ve ever seen!!! It ISN’T “attractive”….it’s animal cruelty!!!
this is sick and wrong-what is wrong with people???? this is not an i.d its animal cruelty and should be outlawed in the states ASAP. as a cat lover i can hardly even look at this picture i would hope people will be as mad as i am right now. we can only hope this sick fad does not catch on!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am just sick to see this and to know that someone out there would do such a thing to their cats. Yet even worse is knowing that somewhere out there in this big wide world is a person that would actually tatoo an animal and to call it art. When will mankind stop letting vanity lead us?
And to answer about spading and neutering, if you have ever lived in an area where cats live in alleys or in the country where they are left on their own. They fast over take an area and end up starving to death, infested with bugs, and spray everywhere they move to part their territory. Yes I feel bad having to altar my kitties but it is something that needs to be done.
I have not much to say save that such practice on a defenseless pet is cruel and indecent, and it should be persecuted. I am not surprised it comes from Eastern Europe, where the illegal traffic of live puppies of every possible breed (I don’t need to say for what purposes) is as lucrative as drug-traffic. They make me sick. I have 4 hairy cats and 1 Sphynx, and I am horrified at seeing those pictures.
wrong, and cruel, unnecessary. how selfish.
as an animal lover i am truly outraged!!!!!! it is cruel and so totaly on the what the hell scale?? nice idea they have come up with no other wackos will hear this and do it…. get real. they are abusing there animals. they deserve the same thing to happen to them. put them alseep then give them a tattoo on the forehad……….
Russians…
Humans get tatoos by choice. What choice did that poor cat have? And you can’t tell me he/she suffered no pain afterwards.
Cruel.
Who is this for? Certainly a cat would never ask for such a thing. I like the comment about tattooing a 2 year old. Its about on par. I see it as unneccessary, painful, and cruel.
I don’t mean to judge but I can’t help it – tattooing a cat for cosmetic reasons is just plain wrong! My female has an ‘S’ tattoo on her belly showing she’s been spayed but to put that poor cat under for 3+ hrs for a King Tut tattoo is shameful. I hate the thought of my cats having to be put under for medical treatment & it sickens me knowing this woman did that to her cat to get a completely unnecessary non-medical procedure. Couldn’t this woman celebrate Russia’s “interesting times” in a more constructive way? I thought times were so tough in Russia – this woman really has that kind of disposable income to waste on a tat for her cat? What is the world coming to?!?!
Me and EVERYONE in my family is TOTALLY against this! tatoos are for humans NOT cats
This is disgusting. I’d be interested in what famous tattoo artist Kat VonD (who also has a Sphynx) would say about this. I somehow doubt she would do it.
Cruel, cruel, cruel.
I am eccentric, but this is even too ridiculous for me…people can’t afford to spay/neuter their pets, yet this is happening?? Where are your priorities?
This is so WRONG on so many levels, especially the pain factor. Just because the cat was anthestitized doesn’t mean once that wore off it wasn’t painful, open for infections and even death (from infection OR the anesthesia!) Humans have a choice, animals do not and thta just make sit plain wrong. It’s animal abuse.
THIS CAT SHOULD BE TAKEN AWAY FROM THE OWNER. WHAT IF THE NEEDLE USED WAS DIRTY AND THE CAT GOT SICK AND DIED? IF GOD WANTED CATS OR ANY ANIMAL FOR THAT MATTER TO HAVE TATTOOS THEY WOULD BE BORN WITH THEM. THIS IS CRAZY AND ANYONE THAT EVEN CONSIDERS THIS SHOULD HAVE THEIR HEADS EXAMINED AND THEIR ANIMALS TAKEN AWAY PERMANATLY!!
It makes me sick to see that! I know what it is to have a tatoo, and the aftermath of it is NOT something I would want my cat or any animals to have to deal with!
The risk of infection or it scrathing it…the irritation!
Oh NO….I think its unexceptable!
Russians need to wake up to modern and humane thoughts on animals and stop hiding behind the “ignorance” excuse for such a selfish act. They have the internet / TV / international publications. They know, all to well, what the rest of the world thinks. They drink U.S. alcohol, wear U.S. clothing; it’s about time they adopted U.S. humane thinking as well.
I can’t believe you would put a cat through this awful treatment. If you want to mark up your own body, fine but leave the poor helpless cats OUT OF IT!!!!!!
SICK
That is HORRIBLE. Poor cats! Talk about animal cruelty. These people should not have pets!!!
ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!! THIS IS ANIMAL ABUSE TO THE FULLEST!! NO!! IT it is NOT o.k. to tatoo a animal whether it has hair or not!! I understand some people tatoo thier animals with ID # but that is far from what these individuals are doing!! Cats & dogs are NOT toys ot things!!! We can’t just do what we like with them for our own personal enjoyment!! If you want a tatoo get one on your own body but DON’T SUBJECT ANIMALS TO YOUR WANTS WHEN IT INTERFEARS WITH THIER NEEDS!! What is wrong with these people?!!!
This just disgusts me. Pets are not accessories. They have feelings and show emotion to. I am wondering how this is not considered animal cruelty? Anesthetizing an animal because it won’t freely sit still so you can jab a needle with ink into it’s skin. With this form of artistic cruelty what’s next. Poor babies.
Wrong! There’s nothing else needs to be said. Just plain WRONG! and should be illegal, in my humble opinion.
As already stated several times above, the cats in question had no say in the matter. I seriously doubt that they think their tats are pretty (or ugly for that matter). They only know that it hurts/itches and don’t know why.
Perhaps in all other ways, these pet owners are good to their charges, but I do have to wonder…
The article asked for my opinion and here it is: This is so very, very wrong! Please, folks, your pets are here to be loved and cared for by you, the “owners”. They are beautiful as they are – with or without fur.
APPALLING!
While I don’t agree with cosmetic procedures done to animals(ranging from the aforementioned pet tattoos to tail docking and ear cropping), I cannot deny that it looks damn cool. Doesn’t make it right, but it’s pretty neat nonetheless.
It is NOT the same as spaying or neutering!! This is just a status symbol. Having a weird breed is bad enough – one that has been bred to extremes – but doing this to it is disgusting. Everything in Russia now is the worst unregulated type of materialism and capitalism now that Communism is gone.
Hello all hairless kitties and supporters!
We are marching on Moscow, NOW!
We’ll show those brain dead and heartless humans some “interesting times.”
Did you see the end of Avatar? Revenge will be ours!
Seriously, what’s the big deal here? The cat was properly anesthetized–not nailed down to a plank, for gods’ sake. Apparently, all due diligence was taken care of during the procedure and recovery. Admittedly, I’m not a big fan of aesthetic procedures in unwarranted situations, but…Mickey clearly was not harmed in any way–so why the fuss? If it’s not your thing (and it’s certainly not MINE), then just don’t have it done. *Shrug* It’s not like Mickey’s owner had his/her legs amputated or wings sewn onto his/her back….
I THINK THAT IT IS AWFUL TO SUBJECT AN ANIMAL TO THIS PROCEDURE!!! THE OWNERS SHOULD BE SHOT… IT’S BAD ENOUGH WHEN A HUMAN DOES IT BUT TO TORTURE A PET FOR SOME PUBLICITY SUCKS!!! EVEN THOUGH THE PET IS PUT TOO SLEEP, ITS DEVASTATING FOR THE PET. PET OWNERS WHO DO THIS, THINKS ONLY OF THEMSELVES AND NOT THE WELL BEING OF THEIR PET AND SHOULD NOT OWN A PET!!
That’s awful! Why would anyone subject their cat to that craziness? What idiotic owners…
This should be considered animal cruelty! How horrible to put your pet through that. I don’t even want mine under anesthesia for something as routine as dental work. If you want to dress up a cat, buy a collar. They should be ashamed of themselves.
That’s wrong on many different levels. It’s dangerous enough putting a cat under, but this is just ridiculous!
This a bunch of bull it is not even remotely cool to do this the animals have no say! I think this should be considered abuse because you are putting your cat a risk by having them knocked out for hours and it is for nothing more then to show how conceited you are tattoo yourself not the poor defenseless animal!! They should take these pets away and never let these people own an animal!!
This is outrageous!!! It’s one thing for people to subject themselves to a tattoo because obviously they know what they are getting into but to do this to a poor cat who clearly has no choice in the matter is just plain cruel.
This is wrong. It is nothing short of cruelty. The owner should be charged with a crime & the animal taken away. To anesthetize an animal is a risk under any circumstance. It should only be done in a life threatening situation.
What is the SPCA doing? This should be a criminal offence. I hope that both the owner and the tatoo artist pay a hefty price for this offensive behaviour.
I think these peole should not be allowed to have pets or children!!! What is wrong with these idiots???? Why haven’t these people been reported and why do they still have these cats??? If people under 18 can’t get tattoos, animals shouldn’t be allowed to have them either!!!
The cat does not have a choice in the matter, as others have stated it is put at risk through anesthetic for the owner’s selfish reasons. It is animal cruelty on a basic level. Yes, there are much worse things that can be (and are) done to animals, but that does not negate the fact that this is a cruel thing to do to a cat. P.S. I have tats myself but that was my choice/my body.
NO IT IS NEVER APPROPRIATE TO TAT
ANYONE, PERSON OR ANIMAL, WITHOUT
THEIR CONSENT.
I don’t mind tattoos on animals for identification purposes (for instance, my family dog had a tattoo on his inner thigh, which was put there by the shelter we got him from). There is a lower risk of danger from that than there is from microchipping, which has been known to cause cancer in some of the animals who get them. But, these tattoos are so large and so detailed, that the animal will be in pain, pain, pain for awhile after getting them. That’s just not fair. Plus, tattoos require SO much after-care that it is simply not healthy unless the owner will be watching the animal 24/7 for the next several weeks and disallowing him/her from bathing himself! Sphinx cats have special grooming needs as is…this is simply not right.
Do what you want to yourself, but leave your pet ALONE! You should be shot.
OH HELL NO!!! wtf was she thinking??i am soooo apalled by this thats freakin animal cruelty and i will not listen too or accept any justification…someone should smack her hard!!
the owner and the person who tatooed the cat should be cited for animal cruelty. Ridiculous
That is sick. That poor kitty cat should be taken away from that sick owner.
This is absolutely abhorrently sick and wrong. If you want to get tattoos, then more power to you, but do not subject your pets to such pain and suffering when they do not have a voice of their own. They do not know what is happening except that they are in pain. I have three tattoos – all cat related – but never in a million years would I subject an animal to that.
I have tattoos and piercings myself, but I made an informed choice to have them, something a cat cannot do. I believe in chipping animals but this seems the ultimate in animal accessories. Animals are meant to be enjoyed as they are, not turned into the next fashion item, where will it end, dyeing cats to match your outfits and shoes? If owners want tattoos have them themselves, don’t subject their animals to them, they are neither an improvement to the animal or necessary.
This is horrific! This is cruel and abusive! I cannot even look at the pictures, they make me sick! I’d like to know if there is anything the ASPCA can do about this.
The tattoo itself is beautiful. The practice is ignorant and inhumane. I am at a loss to fathom what kind of person would tattoo an animal…
wow this is just so disgusting and disturbing… :’(
This most definitely NOT okay!
My opinion is if a animal can’t give you his, or her opinion on someone putting art work on their body, like you can, then you shouldn’t.
Not a good idea to apply an ornamental tattoo on a cat.
People yes. Cats no.
That is absolutely horrible. The owner should be shot. The poor kitty could of had an allergic reaction to the dye and any cat should not be put under anesthesia unless it is absolutely necessary. A cat does not show that it is in pain.
You people need to get off your freaking high horse. If the worst thing that happens to this cat is getting a tattoo, then that’s pretty lucky.Think of all the animals that are beaten, maimed, killed every single day. if I had to choose between that or a tattoo, I’d pick the tattoo! Stop parading your convictions around like a bunch of self righteous, ignorant idiots, please? I wouldn’t do this to my cats, but I wouldn’t condemn an owner who did, either. I personally view neglect as a far worse act than something like this.
i think this terrible, its animal abuse
I was just wondering if the owner of this beautiful cat would like it if someone held her down and put a big tattoo from her belly button to her neck. Especially if it was strictly to satisfy that person’s vanity, or their sense of humor. Probably not, but then again, most people aren’t as smart as most animals, and maybe she just might ike it at that. She put an egyptian thing on this cat … so maybe it is theme related and in that event if they tattooed the owner it ought to be a big ol’ donkey!
Have you noticed the ones who have been pro cat tattooing have the most ridiculous self-important blogs? Just ignore them, they are s++t stirrers, just want to draw attention to themselves. They dont care about animals or anything, just their own pompous self-aggrandisement!
this is absolutely NOT ok. The cat does not know what is happening. what is he gonna do show all his cat friends?
I have 5 tattoos but would NEVER even think of doing it to my cat
That is just plain stupid!! I don’t know why people would do something like this to the pet!!! I could never do that to anyone that I care about…
So wrong!! A person can decide weather to have a tatoo and endure the discomfort but can a cat say no? No! If you want a identifier get a implant or gee collor ,tags and vet records. Putting a animal thru this is vain on the oweners part and very irrisponsiable. Talk ablout abuse, can the humaine society or aspca do something?
Crazy, insane, selfish, cruel, and dangerous all come to mind. How could you endanger and inflict pain on soemthing you supposedly love that has no say in all this, only for your own barbaric amusement. No question this isinhumae and should be outlawed NOW.
As true animal lover all I can say this is so wrong. The rest of my thoughts about the people that do this to their animal friends can not be published as I have some strong nasty names for those that do this. I feel that this diffidently abuse.
thats an awesome tattoo but thats so horrible to do to an animal! i can’t believe this is legal!!! tattoo yourself, not your pet!!!!
THAT IS INSANE PUT A TAT ON A CAT OR ANY OTHER ANIMAL FOR THAT MATTER !!!! THE PERSON THAT DID THE TAT AND THE OWNER OF THE CAT SHOULD BE PROSECUTED FOR ANIMAL CRUELTY !!!
You are a complete D-Bag if you tattoo a cat or any other animal that can’t decide for itself. Would you tattoo an infant? If yes, then read the first 5 words of this post.
i have mostly ethical dilemmas that restrain me from ever thinking of tattooing an animal (past ID tattoos, which i prefer over micro-chipping.).
1. as someone with tattoos: no, tattoos are not the most terribly painful experience by a long shot. and that’s from someone – a human – who’s conscious throughout and given no anesthetics. the animals are typically anesthetized – saving them the indignity of the pain of the actual process. however, the post process would certainly annoy the poor animals for a week or two, because of the itching! (oh god the itching…)
2. thankfully cats and other animals are way too reactive to pain to ever be tattooed in detail while awake, that would be barbaric – where i understand why i’m enduring the pain – an animal wouldn’t, and that alone changes the perception level of the pain from something endured to a torturous assault.
3. the animal doesn’t have a say. this is akin to me walking in the tattoo shop and the artist deciding for me what i’ll be tattooed with. i think that’s the most unfair thing and, until an animal can communicate a desire for a tattoo & what it oughtta be .. no inking the animals!
I agree this is disgusting. You should treat your pets with respect!
Wrong wrong wrong. And though the Russians have barbaric attitudes to pets, and see them as accessories, it would not surprise me to see this happening in the US as well. People are dying their animals fur in ‘artistic’ patterns there. Tell me that’s not toxic to them when they wash. Disgusting, cruel and so disrespectful to the beautiful feline form and character.
That is terrible and flat-out stupid and senseless! There is no excuse for doing that to an animal.
I like cats, but that is one ugly breed. Any artwork/decoration will only enhance this breed.
Let the hatemail begin, it’s just an opinion
oh my gosh, I think it is horrible to put a tat on a cat. Its a choice thing for each person as it is, much less an animal being branded without permission. TEAR
That is awful and unnecessary. Even if the poor cat was anesthetized, wouldn’t its skin hurt afterward? Why on earth would someone think this would be ok to do an animal?
To the people who claim many other cats have it much worse and are horribly mistreated every day, they’re right that is awful, but that in no way excuses the ridiculous inappropriateness of putting a purely cosmetic tattoo on a cat.
i don’t care if the cats are anesthetized! this is absolutely wrong. tattoos are fine for a consulting adult human, but doing it to an animal outside of tattooing the ear of a feral to show it’s been neutered is awful. there is no good reason for it and it’s just another disgusting example of how low some humans will stoop.
That is so cruel! Anesthesia wears off and that tattoo will take time to heal and will hurt. That is horrible.
To do something like this is beyond words. Tatto your own neck or someplace else that is as tender as this poor animals. You don’t deserve to have an animal.
WOW! I love my cat that much to spend that much money. NOT. Bought my daughther a tat. She had pain for, at least, a week after. Your friend cannot tell you how it feels and how much it hurts. Or even when you need to put grease on it to make it not itch. Why not just buy them sweaters with what you want to say on them?
I don’t even believe that people should have tatoo’s. But maybe I’m old school.
But for cats or dogs, other than for ID purpose (and I don’t even like that) this practice is cruel, but not only that it is a craze that only creates copycat acts (excuse the pun). What next a full body tatoo on a cat. Why not one with the entire book written on him. There has to be a stop put to it, cause it only gets worse.
How can I stop it from occuring in Russia though when I’m in the US? What needs to be stopped first is what they do in China. Argh!!!!!
This is wrong on so many levels! Did the cats ask for this pain and discomfort? Who would administer the meds for this purpose? Ethically this is wrong on the part of the vet as well. If docking and ear pinning is no longer practiced because of the cruelty and vanity aspect then why would people think that tattooing is ok?
I’m guessing the owner needs the attention of others at the risk of infecting their cat not only to pain and discomfort, but the risk of infection or worse. Would they do this to their babies. . I hope the owner is fixed!
I think that tattoos are a great way of expressing the SELF. I have hairless cats as a pet and I personally have 3 tattoos. A cat can not decide that he wants or does not want a tattoo, therefore I personally would never do it to my kitties. I think it is kind of silly. But who am I to judge another?
1. I question whether the random mutation that produced a hairless kitten should have been made into a hairless breed. Sphynx cats are subject to problems associated with the lack of protection a coat affords (chilling, sunburn).
2. I do not think that these cats should be subjected to the additional health hazards associated with tattooing, for all the reasons that others have already listed.
3. This reminds me of the joke book, “Why Paint Cats,” in which computer-retouched photos were compiled to make cats look like their coats had been painted. That wasn’t real; this is, and I don’t think it should be.
4. pk, please be careful with your use of the word “retard”. My husband has mental retardation, and he would never dream of doing anything like this to our cats.
This is one of the most horrible things I have ever seen. I cannot believe that someone could be so cruel as to subject their pet to that kind of pain. I personally have a few tattoos and they were painful. Why would someone who is supposed to love their cat ever do something so mean is beyond me. I hope that someday this becomes illegal and the owners are prosecuted.
Gotta be those facking Californians!
This is utterly ridiculous to subject an animal to such a procedure. Pets are not trinkets to decorate; this is horrible to do such a thing!!
I find this cruel and horrible to do to a cat. Just the fact that they had to put the cat to sleep for three hours. I know the pain of getting a tattoo and I would never put my cat to the abuse.
I do not agree with it at all and would not do it, poor kitties do not have a say in it, of course, but I do agree there are much worse things that humans do to animals. If they feed, shelter and love the animal then I guess it isn’t as bad as some things but still do not like this at all! I don’t even like when cats are de-clawed and dogs get ears and tails cropped, I always thought it unnecessary and somewhat cruel to alter an animal to be something other than its normal state and what God intended them to be..Vanity is what it is about. Not good
Body art for humans is not to my taste, but anyone who wants to disfigure themselves and live with the results can do so. But a cat? Exactly how does this differ from cropping ears on poor dogs to make them ‘look better’? Maybe the cat should take the ‘owner’ somewhere for a special treat to enhance his/her looks…..and by the way – we are supposed to be the caretakers of our animal companions, are we not? How is that being a caretaker of a defenseless cat??
This is animal cruelty, it’s disgusting and if enough of us raise a ruckus about any/all animal tattoos by their idiot owners, laws against this practice will be enforced.
Animal cruelty, no doubt! Hairless cat….an oxy-moron.
Tatooing an animal other then for ID purposes is outrageous! Some people should not have animals. I could go on and on, but then the idiot that tatooed her animal would not have a clue what I was talking about….
If they have enough money to spend on such cruel, vain and vapid things as a cat-too, then maybe they should spend a little more and tattoo “Barbaric, Selfish, Idiot” on his/her own self, right where the rest of the world can see.
And what veterinarian would participate in such a thing? Isn’t there some moral obligation they have to always act in an animal’s best interest?
Cruelty plain and simple. Shame on her for putting her “beloved” cat through the pain. SHAME SHAME SHAME. Makes me want to cry.
If the cat expressed interest I suppose I’d consider it but since my cat has yet to crasp the english language it’s just cat mutilation.
This is cruel. I have a tatt and it hurt afterwards for about 4 days. I can’t beleive that someone would do this to their animal!
How could anyone who truly loved their cat even consider subjecting them to something like this, anesthesia or not? Anesthesia wears off!
All I can say is HOW CRUEL for anyone to do that to an animal. If they want a tat on themselves thats one thing to degrade their body, but to do that to a defensless animal is just WRONG!! And all for the owner’s enjoyment. These people should NOT EVER HAVE animals.
To say I’m outraged is putting it mildly.
These people cannot call themselves cat lovers! Tatooing oneself is one thing but subjecting anything or anyone who cannot choose is simply torture. People should be arrested for this kind of crap!
Derek C.F. Pegritz wrote: “Seriously, what’s the big deal here? The cat was properly anesthetized–not nailed down to a plank, for gods’ sake. Apparently, all due diligence was taken care of during the procedure and recovery.” What’s the big deal here? I’ll tell you what the big deal is, this is an animal who deserves to be lovingly cared for by his or her family, not to be subjected to stupid cosmetic procedures that require anesthesia because the owner likes it. Anesthesia is a big deal and should be not done lightly. How do you know “due diligence was taken care of?” Anesthesia should be reserved for necessary medical procedures, like spay/neuter (which not only fights overpopulation but helps prevent certain diseases) and other surgeries. Doesn’t matter where you’re from, responsible pet owners know better, and comments like yours just make you look stupid and uncaring. I really hope you don’t have a pet of any kind.
This is despicable! Its right up there with the macho guys who breed and fight the pitbulls because it gives them ’street cred.’
The people who would do this are immature, desperate for attention, seeking some way to distinguish themselves and get themselves noticed, by exploiting a poor, defenseless animal, and exposing them to serious health risks. If its a quick number for ID purposes, well, maybe, but this has nothing to do with that.
Cats don’t do well under anesthesia, either and sometimes don’t wake up. I am outraged.
I understand, however, that other countries regard their animals in ways that may be different than the Western perspective….but this is really foul.
This is just plain WRONG! There is no possible acceptable reasoning or justification for such a practice.
It says right in the article that “…Russians own pets for selfish reasons…” That says it all: SELFISH–not to mention cruel, inconsiderate and a host of other adjectives to describe despicable behavior.
An ID tattoo is MUCH smaller (try thousands of times smaller!) … and when a person decides to get themselves a tattoo, they full well understand what they are doing, and why, and what the consequences will be. It is a personal decision and choice.
A defenseless pet animal has no choice or voice in the matter. I put this in exactly the same category of the outdated, cruel and barbaric practices of ear cropping and tail-docking!
Absolutely horrible and shocking! If you do not or cannot show empathy for animals, you have no right to refer to yourself as ‘civilized.’
No way!
This is horrible.
Its bad enough people have breeded cats to not have hair.. not intended by God.. if these cats ever become homeless they will die from freezing to death!
Now they are tatooing them too!
I think its cruel.. the breed and the tatoo!
and besides, who knows what the long term health risks might be? I love my animals too much to put their health at risk especially for such an unneeded procedure. Just really stupid! Spaying and neutering are essential to good health and stops unwanted animals from being born and then mistreated. I could go on forever but animals have no voice..WE are their voice and it is up to us to love and cherish and take care of these lovely creatures
I could not imagine putting the poor animal through something like that. They can’t say they don’t want to be subjected to that, and they you have to apply the moisturizer for a week on their skin which they will more than likely lick off. Hopefully it is non-toxic. I think that if the owners want to express their love of tatoos they should get them on themselves, not subject a poor defensless animal who cannot say no.
Hey everyone I have an idea! How about we sedate the owner of that cat and surgically attach extra limbs to her body! That would look really cool and I’m sure cats everywhere would love that their owners will have extra appendages to pet them with
This practice should be illegal, and I would not take my cats to any vet who participated in this form of “art.” Our pets are our companions. They are not canvases for us to parade around. This is gross, vain, attention-seeking behavior on the part of owners at the expense of their pets. How sick.
Do I think this is cruel? No, only because I’m not sure how the cat would feel afterward. Do I think it is wrong? Yes, because of that same reason, we do not know how the cat will feel afterwards, so what right do we (as human beings) have to hurt it (that is if they are hurting them)?
Then again, this is coming from me, who thinks declawing a cat is true cruelty and people still do it and for what? So that thier furniture won’t get ruined? Then don’t have a cat.
I’m an artist, and I have to admit, I think the tattoo looks kind of cool! That being said, there is a line between art and cruelty. Just because something looks cool doesn’t mean you should do it. If you want to be creative, draw the cat and draw in tattoos on it in a work of art. Don’t actually take a live animal and do it! I’m pretty sure that if a little boy did that to a cat, he’d be considered at risk of becoming a serial killer someday.
Just because animals are at our mercy doesn’t mean we should take advantage of that! There are many things we CAN do, but we have free will. We could take the wings off a bat and surgically attach them to the back of a hairless cat too. That would look pretty cool, wouldn’t it? There is a line, and causing pain to an animal for the sake of art crosses it.
Oh, and ardeet – the statement about Russia having a different regard to animals was not a generalization, it was a reference to the quote in the article. Maybe actually READ before jumping in playing devils advocate.
Disgusting! This woman should be arrested !
I have always held the belief that our responsibility as care-takers of these innocent creatures is to protect them from harm and give them love and provide them much happiness. In this way, I view my six cats as though they were my human babies, and I wouldn’t tattoo my 2 year old so it follows that I wouldn’t put my kitties through it either. zeeke really said it with “Doing this to animals for art is just wrong! Wrong like tatooing your 2 year old.”
Of all the things to focus on in life…! Why won’t people go LEARN something USEFUL instead of wasting time and effort on this kind of BS? The methods of “reasoning” behind the entire process is why things here on Earth are so messed up.
If you asked me, a lot of these people go through most of their lives wasting time which could be used to add to their personal and mental development drinking a bit too much vodka and thinking the same kinds of thoughts the cavemen who came just a few generations before them were thinking – and Russia isn’t the only country on the planet, so it doesn’t stop there.
These people shouldn’t even be allowed to own a cat. Who in their right mind would do such a thing? This makes me so sick…
the only thing I can say is…no no no no!!!!!
Also, I really hope Ardeet is not a pet owner – they obviously disagree with spaying and neutering, which means they are either contributing to the unwanted pet population, or they are putting their pets at risk of cancer and other disorders. So it’s either direct or indirect animal cruelty. No wonder they are all right with this.
Sure got me raising the WTF flag!! BUT the title of the article ( Tats for Cats) is like they are trying to make it sound cool. Bad!
I HATE this. I can’t stand the fact that breeders have misshapen some breeds so badly that they can’t breathe, some so that they have NO FUR. My cat owns me — not the other way around. I can’t stand it when I have to take her to the vet because she’s ill or needs a check up — much less would I have any procedure done to her just for pure vanity. These people don’t truly care for their cats, love them, not anymore than someone would truly “love” a designer handbag. Truly these people such big-time in my book.
This is repulsive.
Wonder if there is any benefit to posting this stuff as the crazies will “copy cat” it for shock value alone.
A cat can not even appreciate or feel validated by a tatoo. This is a selfish act by the owner, risking infection and causing confusion for the poor kitty.
Disgusting period.
This is outrageous and completely selfish on the owner’s part! I consider it total cruelty! Just the fact that you have to put the cat out to have this done should tell any halfway intelligent person that it’s wrong to do this to your cat. Anesthesia is always a risk for an animal and to put your cat under for something totally decorative is wrong, wrong, wrong! Your cats should be taken away from you!
I am in total agreement with you. Why would you do that to a cat? They can’t tell you that they want it done like your child. It’s up to the cat’s human to treat them humanely, how is that humane?
Ridiculous…as an animal lover I have to say that this has crossed a dangerous line….what next? Earrings and piercings? And then what???
Skurvycat- So you are saying that this is ok, because in comparison to being beaten or maimed it’s not so bad? I hope if you’re a cat owner you don’t use that kind of reasoning. “Well sure I kicked the cat across the room, but that’s not so bad, I could have thrown him off the roof instead.” Sheesh.
OMG … I dont get it! How can someone, who pretends loving animals, do something like this? Why the hell the tattoo artist agreed to such a horrible thing? That poor cat! This woman should not be allowed to own an animal! I have also Tattoos but I had the choice, nobody forced me to have them!
Absoluteky not OK to tatoo a cat or any other animal! Animals are not ours to expoit. Why would you subject a cat to this? It is only for their selfish owner. Totally un-natural for cat to have a tatoo. I disagree 100%!!
I think it is wrong! I have a Tattoo and I know how it hurts. They may have been a sleep during the process but it still is quite tender & sore afterwards. And again there is no telling the after effects that could happen. I don’t care what country they were in it was wrong!
That’s just not right, would they also get their kids tattoos because the reasons are the same? I know the tattoo shops are just getting paid, but isn’t each shop breaking the law? They get consent from the owner and not the actual client.
How on earth can someone think this is right to do this to any animal. You have to be a VERY SICK PERSON To subject an animal to such a thing. They deserve to be loved not treated like that and people like this don’t deserve to have an animal.
cats are not canvas..
What is wrong with people???
Numbing during the tattoo process does not take away the sometimes agonizing pain a fresh tattoo can cause afterwards… trust me, I have one close to the same size myself, and it hurt so much when the blood would rush down when I stood, that I couldn’t walk for days after getting it done. Neutering and spaying is NOT the same thing. These are both done in the interest of the overpopulation of domesticated animals that are born homeless and/or abandoned, and suffer starvation, abuse and general dangers of being strays… so don’t even try to use that as a legitimate comparison, because it’s not! Shame on you for even comparing the two!
The anesthesia alone, is a danger. It should only be used by a veterinarian and under mandatory circumstances. The fact that anyone can do this OR defend this, shows how degenerated and cruel some parts of society are becoming.
AND I totally, 100% agree with you Little Doll, interbreeding for our vanities or any other reason, is a crime against nature, as well as cruel.
I THINK THAT IS DOWN RIGHT CRUEL. THE THOUGHT OF ANY ANIMAL OWNER HARMING THEIR PET IS CRUEL. THE OWNER SHOULD NOT HAVE DONE THAT…
That’s just wrong. If you want to get a tattoo on your own body that’s one thing, because you can speak for yourself, but an animal cannot voice his/her opinion about it. Plus, there can be complications from anesthesia.
That poor cat did not have a voice/choice in this matter, thus the owner acted both irresponsibly and selfishly. A cat cannot say “yes” or “no” to such a procedure, and therefore such a procedure should be limited ONLY to humans of an age and mental level to understand the purpose/risks/costs of tattooing. I honestly don’t know what happened to shut down Mickey’s owner’s “good” sense, but to place a tattoo on a defenseless animal that does not serve a purely useful function is just wrong and cruel. There are some HUMANS who experience massive complications from/after tattooing, either from the anesthetic or the procedure itself. Poor kitty, it looks like he’s trying not to yowl in pain as his owner forces him to look at the camera. This is way too “beauty is only skin deep” for me. Anybody else thinking of how German Shepherds had their ears and tails cut as puppies just for that “fierce doggy” look? As if cats, or indeed any animals, really need any “procedures” beyond good nutrition/grooming/affection to be truly beautiful.
That is horrid to tattoo a cat. They don’t need that done ot them.
I don’t think this is any worse than cutting the tails or ears off of dogs or declawing a cat. anybody who’s had their cat declawed has subjected their pet to a great deal more pain and trauma while stripping them of their primary defense and ability to hunt.
I think this tattooing of pets should be outlawed, It is cruel to do to the animal just for the person’s vanity. Putting a cat under anesthesia is dangerous enough, just to ruin the skin of the animal!!!! These people are crazy. What will come next, piecing the animals body parts?? Doing Laser Fur Removal, so they can tattoo their pets?? Leave the animals alone.
What are you thinking to do such a thing to your pet?! It is not a piece of jewelry that you wear or a purse that you carry around. Would you do that to a human baby – probably if you would do it to your cat or dog. Any time you have a dog or cat anesthetized you are subjecting them to a health risk, a life and death risk; if you love your animal why would you do that?!
thats crazy, its like getting your child tatooed, owner is probably one of those overweight gnome women who has a tramp stamp on there back and thinks its sexy! MEEEEEEEEEEOOOOOOOW NOT!
As Chloe says… more stupid pet owner tricks. Stop it. Just stop it now.
when i saw the pic i thought someone had drawn a temp fake tattoo on the cat and thought that was bad enough but a real one! anesthesia is risky and to do it for the owner vanity is insane! the owner and whoever did it should be in jail.
I don’t think that people should be allowed to cut off pets tails or ears, so tattooing would be just as bad. Poor animals.
APPALLING!!! These people need to be fined and have their animals taken away!!! This is a selfish, disgusting way to show you care about your cat….
To Marjorie Dawson and others, you say the russians are cruel. I dont think cruelty and strange attitudes to animals is just to one country. Americans think it is a great idea to declaw their cats for the sake of their furniture.
They also cut dogs ears and tails to make them look more agressive.
All nations are capable of animal cruelty.
#1 cats (and all other pets) are as dependant on its owner as a child on its mother (food, love and protection)…I don’t think a lot of parents would put their kids under anesthesia and give them a tattoo…#2 unnecesary pain for cat #3 start with tattoos where is it going to stop piercings etc? #4 ugly tatoo..probably cat’s going to have self-image issues:):) ok kidding on that one…..but its shocking, horrific and needs to be stopped at all costs and immediately!!!!!!!
The poor cats had NO choice in this and it was NOT for their health! It was for their stupid owner’s EGO and the owner should be fined and the cat should be adopted to a LOVING forever home where they are not subjected to a horrible procedure that is NOT needed! The people performing the tattooing should be charged a stiff fine and do service in humane shelters scooping poop, too!
Come on people…what is the MATTER with you????
ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! I can’t believe that someone would put their precious pet through that!!! That poor kitty! I would NEVER put my cat through such torture!
Decorative Tattoos on a cat are completely wrong and my mommy is very mad after reading about this poor cat. There is absolutely no comparison between anesthetizing a cat for a spay/neuter surgery and doing so for a tattoo. Spay/neuter surgeries are absolutely necessary to prevent the birth of kittens that could grow up to be homeless or killed in a shelter. These surgeries also avoid health and behavioral problems in adult cats. Tattooing a cat is ABUSE, plain and simple!!
This is F*CKING DISGUSTING!!! I don’t care if the cat was anesthetized of not! He’s going to feel the pain afterwards for a week at least. (I have tattoo’s so I know the healing process). POOR KITTY! Animal rights groups should swoop and and take that cat away. God know’s what else she has planned. I’m just sick to my stomach!
This cat is a sentient being, not a decorative object. If the owner wants a decorative object, let him or her buy an Egyptian-patterned bowl or something.
IT SHOULD BE ILEGAL IT MAKES ME SICK LOCK THE PEOPLE UP AND THROW AWAY THE KEY…….
I have spent a long time rescuing cats and currently have 22 in my home. If I could find that one, he’d be here too. If she likes the tatt that much, she should put it on herself. The cat had no say so and putting it to sleep while doing it, don’t make it right. That infuriates me. I currently have a little boy that someone lit his back paw pads on fire. I have brought him through the horrible ordeal and even though he loves me, he is terrified of people now. He didn’t ask to be lit on fire and neither did this poor kitty be asked if he wanted that ugly tatt on his body. Animal cruelty all the way. Put the creep in jail!
I am horrified that the owner thought so little of the health and safety of her cat! From experience I know that tattoos are VERY painful and the healing process is extremely uncomfortable. This is blatant cruelty and the owner should be completely ashamed of herself!
Suds- have 5 cats. They get treated like royalty. I didn’t say that I agreed with this, and I absolutely do not condone cruelty. Did you even read my post, or did you just have difficulty absorbing the meaning of it? My point that while the actual; act is not necessarily ok, at least this cat is otherwise obviously well cared for. He looks to be a happy little porker of a kitty. Again, I don’t condone tattooing an animal for reasons beyond identification (and since chips are so accessible now, they’re pretty well obsolete). WHat truly bothers me here, is people’s knee-jerk reaction to something they see as WRONG without actually looking at every aspect of the situation. It’s not black and white; it’s many shades of gray. I hate people who ignorantly proclaim that something is WRONG WRONG WRONG without actually understanding what they are calling wrong. Yet again, don’t think tattooing a cat is ok, but at least the cat is just tattooed and not also beaten or neglected. Try to see the bigger picture.
This does absolutely nothing good for the cat, but simply feeds the egos of persons to whom they are entrusted. Obviously, this is nothing cats do nor need to adorn themselves and they are plenty beautiful without this nonsense.
When are we going to finally get it? Nobody really OWNS animals. They are in our care (or lack thereof) but this is their planet and their world, too…and they do a far better job of being cats than many of us do being cat “owners.”
I think the owner should have a tattoo on their forehead that says……YUP, I’m a dope!!
This is wrong in so many ways. My two kitties are rescues and they are mine to protect from harm for the rest of their days. I’d never ever do something like that to my pet.
That’s awful. If people want to get to get themselves tatooed, they can make that choice – but these poor cats had no choice!
I am a tattoo artist and studio owner. First, anyone wanting a tattoo must be of sound mind and able to intelligently read and sign a contract. A cat can’t do that. A person who wants a tattoo must be able to make that decision for themselves, a cat can’t do that. I rescue feral and homeless cats and would never consider tattooing a cat. First, it is illegal to have animals in a tattoo studio. Second, it is illegal to tattoo out of your house (a felony in this state). Third, the owner is very vain and is using the cat to show off their absolute control over this life that they share with their cat, but to have the cat tattooed against it’s will (it had to be put to sleep to be tattooed, right?) is extremely wrong and fails to take into consideration the cat’s preferences for how it is treated. Do you really think the cat would have choosen this for itself? Of course not.
Sure, it looks cool, and the owner has gained a lot of attention for themselves by having the cat tattooed, but is that why they own this cat? I thought you shared your life with a cat because you loved it, wanted to provide it a home where it would be safe and protected and taken care of. What this tattoo represents is the absolute opposite of all that. Any tattoo artist who would do this to a cat is a disgrace to the tattoo industry and should have all their equipment confiscated and be barred from ever giving another tattoo, forever. And, now that the cat has a tattoo and has made the news, for everyone else that thinks they want to do this to their cat, DON’T!! You won’t make the news, you won’t get famous, your cat will probably run away and you will generate negative karma that will follow you throughout all time. Tattoos are for people, not for animals.
She should be charged with cruelty to animals. This is outrageously wrong. She should be relieved of caring for this animal, if that’s what you want to call what she has done. I don’t see any “care” here. She just wanted to decorate an ornament for her own selfish desire.
Put this in perspective. The animal doesn’t have a clue about who or what humans do. They see humans as their protectors, food provider, and shelter. That is what makes tatoo-ing wrong. They don’t have a say in this. They are unable to communicate to that end. They can however, tell us their hungry etc…Don’t tatoo your animals…geeze. Think about what they want. Give them what they want…not what the owner wants.
THIS SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED….. i agree with Irina, this is barbaric and cruel. WHO CARES IF THERE WAS ANESTHESIA USED!!!!! this should NOT have been done!!!!
I personally think that it is extremly cruel. I think that animal rights should be investigating this and taking that cat away. Then they should do something about the tattoo artist because the tattoo artist should have NEVER EVER even done that tattoo on the cat to begin with. I would NEVER EVER do something so CRUEL and EVIL to my cat. Pets should be treated as family memebers not a paint canvas! If someone wants to tattoo something soooooooooo bad why dont they tattoo themselves!!!!!!
This is the stupidest thing I have ever seen done to an animal and I consider it a form of abuse. Why subject the poor cat to this? Humans can put up and care for the pain after the tatoo – but a cat who just wants love and affection? This cat whould be taken away from its owner and the owner subjected to tatooing when they are asleep. In fact, why not crop the owner’s ears while they are at it and declaw the owner too!
All I can ask is WHY ? Who benefitted from this–certainly not the cat. What was the owner thinking.
This is cruelty in its highest form.
That is very cruel to put your animal through that because you think it’s cool. Did the cat say “Oh by the way, I would like to be put to sleep and have inked stuck in my skin through a needle several thousand times.” I don’t think so. They should be arrested for animal cruelty.
ARE YOU F___K NUTS????? How cruel, evil, barbaric, inhumane. SHOULD BE ILLEGAL and these people shouldn’t be allowed to have pets! I am nearly speechless and so angry! If you want to stick needles in your body that’s one thing, but animals can’t fight back and say “no” – and then you give them anesthesia – as if that makes it okay.
Is there someone we can contact to look into this????? Oh, I am sooooooooo pissed!
Tattooing animals and even micro-chipping has risks, however, these are done for the animals’ protection. Subjecting animals to anesthesia and a risk of infection for human vanity is a disgrace to the human race. We should recognize tattoos, piercings, and clippings, whether on animals or humans, for what it is– mutilation. To do this to a creature without its consent is unconscionable and to do so for reasons other than the protection of the animal should be grounds for the removal of a veterinary license and subject to criminal prosecution under cruelty laws.
Personally I find this appalling! The ONLY tattoo that any animal should have to adorn is one done for their own safety and to help in case they are lost or stolen. Not one for the sheer entertainment and pleasure of the owner.
What a revolting, amoral and cruel practice that should be banned. To put an animal, who has no voice, under anesthesia for HOURS just to please some idiot who wants to follow some stupid trend. I say anybody who wants to subject a helpless kitty to this kind of cruelty should have his/her ass BRANDED!!!
Horrible. Wrong.
Disgusting! What’s next?
Why don’t we knock out the owner and do something horrible to him while he’s out.
What do you say? Sounds like fun to me!
This is appalling!! I cannot believe someone would subject their animal to this cruelty! It should be outlawed, and those people should get their arses kicked.
I am disgusted and outraged!!! Would you tattoo your child even if the child were anestestized? No!!
Animals, just like humans, could have a reaction to being put under and therefore should only when it is necessary to the animal’s well being.
Just who did the anesthesia? If it was a vet, I would not take my pet to them as they are definately not in the business because they give a hoot about animals!!
I feel sorry for that poor cat!! It should be removed/rescued and placed with someone that cares about the cat! To the lady in Russia that owns the poor cat in question: Lady, if you wanna show off, buy some outlandish clothes and jewelry and makeup!!!! That is NOT what animals are for!!!!!!!
I’m absolutely disgusted. WTH is WRONG with people that think tattooing a CAT is OK??? I have tattoos myself and would never even dream of subjecting one of my furry babies to the pain. I can’t believe that someone did this and is actually proud of themselves for having done it. What a barbaric and absolutely STUPID trend. What’s next? An epidemic of de-clawing? That’s it, let’s all subject our feline friends to unneeded pain and torture. It just makes me sick. I have to go hug my cats now.
I say tie these people down and give them a tatoo that they dont want, freeking sick, sorry sons a -@#%^%#$@$% should get the butts kicked by a rabid freeking skunk.
This is ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE!!!!! There is no good reason to do this to any animal, let alone a cat! People who think this is “cool” and “art” should open up their eyes and realize they are putting the their pet in harms way. There is risk for infections and even death.
Is there no end to the misery humans will cause animals to suffer. If this was done by a Veteranarian would I want to be taking my pets to his/her practice. I think not. This is definately animal cruelty and both the owner and whoever did the tattoo should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.
I can’t believe someone would do that to thier pets.
In no way should that be legal. but then again don’t we do the same when we get they’re number tatto in there ears??
I think this is horrid, selfish and disgusting. These poor creatures have no say in this being done to them for the selfish pleasure of the humans they trust. Let alone the risk to them having the anesthesia…stupid stupid humans.
I have tattoos, and even after the cat wakes up from being anesthetized, he/she will still be in pain. And the cats do not have a voice to tell the human whether they’re in pain or not (as every cat owner should know – they hide pain/sickness very well!!). This is absolutely a disgusting act by humans for their own perverse pleasure. I am for tattoos on humans, but NOT on defenseless animals!!!
These people a really sick, I can’t imagine why in hell some would find the need to do that to an animal. I believe it is ANIMAL ABUSE.
UNBELIEVABLY SICK!!!!!
I think this is ridiculous as well as cruelty to the animal. Tiny tattoos and micro chips for the sake of identification are good because they can help the animal be returned to its home. This tattooing for vanity is completely different. The anesthesia can kill the pet and tattoos can also become infected. People make the choice to get tattoos. Cats and dogs can’t make such choices and people as their caretakers should only make decisions that are good for the pet. I think we shouldn’t do anything to their bodies that is not beneficial to them. I also think it’s cruel that we breed cats to have nasal/sinus/breathing problems (extremely snub nosed Persians) and cut dogs ears and tails. It’s really something I think we should move away from!
Absolutely NOT! The owners should have “I AM CRUEL” tatooed on the forehead without anesthesia of any kind…..Cats are beautiful just as they are and if she wants to “decorate” she can just get a nice collar. Some people are just sick. And sickening.
Nothing humans do surprise me anymore.. this is once again a form of abuse. THis is just as bad as PAINTING CATS.. and a BOOK was published on that.
Th eperson that owns this Sphynix should be cited for abuse.
That is just horrible. I don’t care if people want to get tattoos over their entire body, that is THEIR choice. What choice does the kitty have? People are aware that the skin will be sore for a time after the inking, but cats are not, and they suffer needlessly.
Also, I would never want to have a cat anesthetized, not unless it was for a spay/neuter or life-saving surgery.
People who do this are sick, and should not be allowed to have any pets.
And by the way, those tattoos ruined the beauty of the cat!
Even leaving aside the fact that the Anesthetizing of the cat is possibly a health hazard… as someone who has gotten a tattoo I can tell you that it still hurts for a few days AFTER the tattooing process is done…so this is inflicting pain on the animal still!! I don’t believe this whole thing is at all something that should be happening!
wow. hearing about this makes me so angry! This is ANIMAL CRUELTY. Just because they are put under for getting tattoos doesnt mean they aren’t risking their pets lives. ANYTHING could go wrong during this procedure. It’s sickening, these people should be fined and jailed!
Absolutely disgusting. It’s animal cruelty to the nth degree … charges should be laid. Did the cat ask for the tattoo? No, of course not. It was human being who made the choice for selfish reasons only. What a horrible thing to do to an animal that can’t speak for itself. What if it gets infected because of dirty needles, etc.? The owners should be relieved of their ‘pet’, told never to have a pet again and be charged!
This is horrible! Leave the animal alone! it does not need a tatoo!!!!
Very Cruel!!!
I’d go with the torture in unspeakable ways, followed by the people being shot or hanged afterwards
I know things are different in Russia but this is almost like having your baby tattooed! Tattoos are for consenting adults who wish to do so. What’s next? Multiple piercings all over the cat’s body? Cruel and disgusting!
These people should be charged with animal cruelty and lose the pet forever! I know enough people who have tattoos to know the pain afterward is intense also leaves them at risk of infection and god know what. It is one thing to do this to yourself it is another to do this to a helpless animal. Too many sick (in the head) ridiculous people are allowed to own an animal, we need some real penalties and laws to protect animals from them.Isn”t it time?
No I do not think people should put a tattoo on their pets unless it is and ID # of some kind. I have tattoos myself and I would not ever do that to my animails. Poor kitty.
NO NO NO!!! Tattooing is horrendous!
I don’t like this at all!!! It is cruel. Poor ktty to have an owner like that!!!
Throw the bi!*# in prison and let her see how it feels to get some tatts of her own.
In the picture, this cat is still under the effects of the anesthesia. Here are more pics of this procedure. http://www.balkanpix.com/?s=3&i=143 done in March 2009.
I am horrified that someone would even think of doing this to their pet. I don’t understand what the “interesting times in Russia” have any thing to do with an Egyptian tattoo on a “Spynx” cat????????
Scurvycat–Think of it this way. I have a five month old baby at home. Now imagine if I, say slapped him across the face once in awhile. It really seems as though you’re saying that the public should become outraged about that because at least he’s a nice, healthy, happy boy.
Or, alternatively, if you want to stick with cats: it’s a good thing I just kick my cat out of my way when I don’t want him there because he’s otherwise healthy and happy. No one should get outraged by my miniscule abuse because in the long-run it could be much worse. That seems like a potentially dangerous train of thought. What if all crimes were treated with the consideration that the aggressor could have done something worse.
Look. It’s wrong. Harming an animal unnecessarily is wrong. If that means kicking it because it annoyed you or literally torturing it, it’s still harmful and therefore wrong. I don’t think saying so is a display of ignorance.
Tattooing kitties should only be done if the cat can give informed consent! This means the cat understands the entire procedure, the pain of the tattoo itself AND the recovery. Since most kitties are NOT fully fluent in english (or any other language besides Cattish), nor can they sign consent forms – NO TATS ON CATS!!! Like declawing, this is barbaric and cruel, to say nothing of totally unnecessary.
Sorry. In the first paragraph I said “…the public should become outraged about that…” It should have been “should not.”
How cruel!!! This in my eyes is animal abuse!!!
This is wrong for many reasons. Most importantly, why would you risk a cat’s life for a tattoo. I have lost 2 cats to anesthesia related deaths. I know it is rare, but is still a possibility.
This is animal abuse!!!!!! OMG, OMG, OMG!!!! Putting a poor cat through pain and suffering is a form of animal abuse. This owner needs her cat taken away from
her. This person is absolutely disgusting!
I can’t believe anybody would do such a thing to a poor cat. It is horrible that a person would mistreat a cat like that.
This is sickening!! I cannot believe that people would put their animal through something so traumatic just for aesthetic purposes. This needs to be stopped!!
Cruelty: How is it possible to separate types of cruelty, to sanction one needless act and to license and even approve of another?
Human Male babies are routinely subjected to radical, invasive, prepucectomy — not your ordinary Mosaic circumcision of 2-3 Millennia ago, which was for religious purpose and amputated only a tiny circlet at the end of the “overhang”, yielding to the radical kind c. 4th Century, and practiced today since the 1800s. This prepucectomy is done without anesthesia performed on the most nerve laden part of the body and a CNS nexus, the adhesion is broken, and then the entire Prepuce is amputated in a bloody, screaming process, generally putting the neonatal into paralyzed state of shock. It is performed on 90% of the non-Hispanic male neonates in USA — and yet goes virtually unchallenged!
Abortion of the living, feeling foetus, is another hideous procedure (q.v., the photographs).
Why, at least these Cats are anesthetized during the needless operations/execution!
Is it not time to call these things what they really are: unwarranted, hideous cruelty to man & beast — and these the most defenseless creatures of all, babies and household pets!
The USA does not have a political structure designed to regulate human behaviour toward animals on an universal level — it must be done state-by-state. So, let each one do what each one can: Tattooing, Ear & Tail Docking, and ALL the Rest.
As for Russia, please remember that this country still has a lot of catching up to do since Marxist days, when people were so insensitive as to abort more babies than to deliver alive. We can lead by example — but not by hypocrisy, to allow some forms of needless immoral cruelty whilst banning others. Does that not make sense?
Disss-gusting! Mee-ouch! I would never subject any hairless animal to that type of thing fo vanity’s sake! That owner should be ashamed of herself! The sphynx is a beautiful cat in its own right, and does not need to be adorned in that manner!
Poor poor kitties…
I don’t think it makes sense to tattoo a cat unless it’s an ID tattoo. Too many risks with tattooing a human, let alone a pet. I too think this should be against the law.
Anyone who would do this to a cat
must not think to much about their pets. Don’t do it!!
SELFISH is right! how dare they put a cat under to do a TATTOO! would people knock out babies to tatto them as well?
Why cant they just paint them with non-toxic paint, take a pic, and be done with it? why does it have to be a tattoo? how would they feel if there cat died while under because they wanted a stupid tattoo done on it?
outrageous. Are these people nuts?! No wonder I like animals better than people.
I feel that tattooing your pet is animal abuse. It is illegal to tattoo your child because they cannot make the decision for themselves and it is the same situation for pets. I do not support the use of tattoos for identification purposes either. Personally, I have a tattoo and simply sedating you doesn’t account for the days of healing and scabbing that follow the event. Put a shirt on the cat if you must adorn a hairless pet. Use the tattoo money to support rescue groups instead.
Hi there:
I don’t think it is right to subject an animal to this type of abuse. If you want to do that to yourself fine but not to an animal. They have rights too.

i think it is cruel todo that to cats or any animal
I immediately think that tattooing a cat is rediculous and cruel to the cat….
More importantly, this cat was feeling pain just like humans feel after the procedure….would someone please tell me the purpose of doing this to your pet?
I agree with all that it is cruel and against the will of the animals. I am also amazed a the number of people who speak in their pets voices. “Mommy and Daddy have tatts…”
It’s probably less risky/painful than declawing and we don’t hear about the horrors of that every day. The cat was anesthetized. I’m not saying it’s right…just trying to put it into perspective. Isn’t confining anything against it’s will when it can fend for itself really cruelty anyway? So to all of the pet owners / domesticated meat eat eaters I say – you’re all cruel…now stop arguing about it and go DO something about it!
That is freaking horrible. That pore cat, even if it was down for the tattoo it will still hurt after. I know from experience that tattoo’s hurt for a little bit after receiving them. This is seriously wrong and extremely cruel. I completely agree that tattooing animals should be banned.
I personally have three tattoos, that was by own choice. I have two cats and I would not get them tattooed because they have no say in the matter and I would not subject them to the pain that comes with a healing tattoo.
This is cruel and just plainly stupid to do to any cat. The owners should be ashamed of themselves. maybe somebody should put them to sleep, and put a tattoo on them that they didn’t want to have.
We are adults, if you want to get a tatoo by all means it is your body, BUT may you rot in *&^% for subjecting a helpless creature to such pain. You are supposed to protect and keep your pet safe. You could die tomorrow and now what happens to this poor cat that YOU have damaged for it’s whole life. AND did you ever consider your cats feelings over yours. SHAME, SHAME, SHAME ON YOU.
That’s cruel and animal abuse.i have cats and dogs and surley wouldnt do it to them i have 4 tattoos that i wanted and animals have no say in the matter as to if them want them or not.
What the heck was the point of having this cat go through this procedure? Bad enough they can’t peak for theirselves and to have an owener to put upon needless pain on the poor cat. That’s cruel. If a tattoo was wanted put it on theirself
I don’t agree with tatoos for humans, and definitely don’t for animals! This act should be illegal.
Just plain cruel…and very sad. They are treating their cat like an accessory, not a living being with feelings.
These people are sick. Their shallowness is completely overwhelming. On what planet is it ok to use an animal as a form of self-expression? I’ll tell you: NONE. NO WHERE is this ok. NO WHERE is it ok to inflict pain on an animal. I’m so violently disgusted by these empty and selfish people I feel sick.
I cannot understand people who abuse animals. And, to me this is truly a form of abuse. Would you subject a young child to a tattoo session? Do you actually think if your pet could speak, he or she would agree to such a procedure? Shame on those so called pet lovers who subject their furry family members to unecessary physical and/or emotional pain. How selfish to treat our pets as fashion accessories!!
I’m a heavily tattooed woman and I think this is sick! Sure the cat was under for the actual tattoo, but recovering from a tattoo is a long and uncomfortable process. If you cared about your pet you would not put them through the stress or pain of recovery for fashion!
Even if the process is done under antiseptic conditions there is a chance of infection. Delayed reactions to the ink may happen as well. During the healing process there is also chance for infections.
If something happens to the present owner a tattooed cat may be harder to place. Hopefully the tattooed animals are kept in side and safe from tormentors.
I think if people want to be marked for life that is their decision, but not animals. It may not be cruel if the animals are sedated, but the after care until the scabs are gone may be uncomfortable. It is just unnatural to tattoo an animal except in a small space for identification purposes. Now that the micro chips are here there will probably be less I. D. tattooing.
I am against the marking of pets for our enjoyment. I am sure the cats don’t sit around admiring each other’s tattoos.
nothing but animal cruelty and abuse
This is a perfect example of people who have nothing better to do, nothing better on which to spend money and in the process torturing their animals – it is animal abuse, nothing more, nothing less!
Outrageous and stupid!
Is it a case of the idle rich or a wannabe?
Sedating an animal alweays carries risks – for anyone purposely and needlessly subjecting a pet that they supposedly love to unnecessary anesthesia is irresponsible, cruel and stupid!
What next, hairplugs?
No! Tattooing ANYONE without their consent is wrong, and that includes your pets!
My friend brought the first Syphinx cat into Australia some years ago and she always treated then with love & respect. When she sold them (as a breeder) she always catalogued where & who had them. What these people are doing tattooing their cats is nothing short of total animal cruelty & wickedness. The pain these gorgeous cats go through is horrendous and the practice belongs in the DARK AGES. This practice is selfishly to lease the ratbag owner & it should not be allowed in any form. I am (for years) on the the Committee of saving & rescuing abused animals (bears, donkeys, Cats, dogs, wildlife)around the world & THIS APPALLS me. Why is there NO prosecution of the people who perpetrate this dreadful thing? Somebody has to step in and do something. Humans are so cruel, its disgusting. Someone should tattoo the owner’s chest as well. Let them feel the pain. Animals have NO voice, and that is why I feel compelled to speak out. These people are rank criminals and should be brought to justice.
Humans have a choice whether or not to get a tattoo but animals can’t voice their like or dislike of it. It may seem like a cool way to dress up your pet, but it is wrong no matter how you look at it.
It goes along the lines of bobbing their tails and docking their ears so they look better.
Any elective surgery on animals, such as declawing, ear cropping, tail docking, etc is outrageous because it is unnecessary for the normal existence of an animal.
Spaying/neutering or life-saving procedures which require anesthesia present many risks, but they outweigh the need to save an animal’s life.
Who in their right mind, except for the sole purpose of being “different” would risk their pet’s life or cause it pain and suffering?
Want to be different, tattoo yourself, put a ring in your nose or lip, and brag about it – leave your animal alone!
Donate the money spent on the adornment of your animal to a needy animal rescue group instead!
I have to agree with Ardeet here. While I would never get my cat tattooed (and if I did, it’d be one of those temporary Petattoos with water soluble ink), I won’t protest these people’s getting THEIR pets tattooed. It’s their choice, and ultimately far less altering than say, removing the cat’s reproductive organs.
Or, in the case of dogs, docking the dog’s tail and ears.
All I’m seeing here are a bunch of knee-jerk racial and- dare I say it? -STUPID arguments here. “The Russians have a…slightly barbaric attitude toward animals”? SERIOUSLY? Are you going to cry foul about how other countries treat their animals, and just ignore what us Americans do to our pets for the sake of vanity? Why don’t you go cry foul at all the people who get their pit bulls and dobermans ear-and-tail docked? And what about the AKC that requires Olde English sheepdogs to have their tails docked? Why don’t you cry foul at all the people who get their cats declawed? Or the people who get their horses’ tails docked?
And all you people ranting about these owners getting tattoos without anesthesia? Uh, HELLO? People DO get tattoos without anesthesia all the time! My mom wasn’t anesthetized when she got HER tattoo, and neither were any of the other people who have gotten tattoos. So it makes no sense for you people to make that argument.
I’m more shocked and disgusted by the hypocritical, racial, and ignorant responses I’ve seen here, than I am at what boils down to just another way to identify a pet if it gets lost.
Look at your own country’s treatment of animals, before you condemn others. We do far worse to our own pets for cosmetic reasons than they have.
I think that giving your cat a tattoo is absolutely horrible!!
i cant believe this. i dont see how people can or could do that to cats. thats something i would never do to my cat. something needs to be done.
i hate tattoos to begin with however, why are they subjecting their poor animal to such a painful procedure. Today’s society is sick, mental ill would come to mind. There is nothing fashionable about animal cruelty,
I haven’t read all of the posts, so this may be a repetition, but who did the tattoo? Was it an artistic vet? Or a tattoo artist who had means to anesthesize the cat?–both ideas sound, er, fishy to me. Full-body tattoos are big here in Japan, especially among the members of the underworld, simply because they are so painful, not just when being needled, but afterwards, too. And we all know about the dangers of anesthesia (I’ve had two major surgeries–no tattoos!–and found that I felt really punky for weeks after the experience). Not to mention the dangers of tattooing–”sharing needles” applies to tattoos as well as drugs. I feel for the Sphyx breed–simply because they have no fur, they can be subjected to this treatment.
Animal cruelty charges should be filed against everyone involved.
I dont see any difference between this and cropping ears and tails. I also dont see any difference between this and selective breeding and pure breeding with knowledge of dangerous birth defects. how about domesticating cows and chickens purely for consumption. how about veal / baby cows. how about work animal domestication. you think that horse wants to plow your field? the point is that humans have been doing bad things to animals as long as there has been animals and humans. so is the line at cosmetic? the problem is people dont like to actually draw a line. they just want to be outraged.
Anytime you put an animal under you risk the life of that animal. To put your pet’s life at risk merely for your “pleasure”, to boost yourself socially, it is absolutely cruel. When my sons got their tattoos there was pain and healing time. But, they, unlike these cats, gave their consent after being made aware of the risks. People have to be 18yrs. of age before they can get a tattoo. These cats have absolutely NO PROTECTION from their self-indulgent, self-promoting, ignorant, cruel owners.
My heart breaks when read or hear about this kind of news, as a Cat Lover, I can’t even conceive the idea of someone doing such a barbaric act like tattooing, glueing, duct-taping their cats! It just tells me that this world where we live is horrible, and no matter how many years pass, and how advanced our technology is, our life style improves or whether you are from a developed or third world -county, there are still heartless, disgusting psycho cavemen living among us, garbage people that will never learn how to treat animals and their surroundings the proper way. And it’s only at the edge of the end of our critic civilization when we will realize of how bad we treated our beautiful world full of richness in its nature.
Behaviors like these should be punished all around the world, nothing worths if there is a law without controlling and reinforcing. We need to put more resources in Animal Protection Organizations, we are thousands of people willing to help, but money is the major concern and obstacle when helping poor animals around the world. Every time I see a street dog, or a cat being abused or violence against any animal my eyes don’t hesitate to tear and as much as I love them, it makes me frustrated the fact that I can’t do more for them.
I am from a little country in South America called Ecuador, daily I see how nasty people treat their pets, they hit them, they don’t feed them and finally these pets gave up to life and either they get aggressive (if they still have spirit) or die cruelly starved or subject of diseases.
It makes me sad to write about it, to think about it even and my only wish is I hope I can do something!!!
Hopefully somebody cares about it and contributes as much as we can and join this fight for the rights that not only humans are privileged to have but also our precious beloved animals.
Let’s say no to violence, no to abuse, no to anti-natural ways and people educate your children! Acts like these are the result of lack of education and unconsciousness that comes only from your homes!!!
i think its sick its hard enough for an animal to go through a needed surgery from anesthesia they are at risk from not waking up not even thinking about risk of infection after this tattoo ,i would like to know who was the moran who put out the poor cat to do this. if this was a vet they should lose there license.put it this way who ever did this should get in trouble.
If you are stupid enogh to want a tat go for it. BUT< DO NOT do that to a helpless animal. We are supposed to be caretakers, not abusers!
Pamela- It’s becoming increasingly obvious that you people apparently do not know how to read, or cannot absorb the things you DO read. AGAIN, I do not condone cruelty in any form, and I did not ever say I thought this was right. I don’t think it’s ok to hit or kick or do anything physically abusive to an animal. I Don’t think that tattooing a cat is ok or right. I think that I’m glad that at least it wasn’t worse. Instead of condemning this woman, why can’t people reach out to her and show her-kindly, because people do not listen when you march on their doorstep like a lynching mob- that this isn’t right, and that decorating a cat with tattoo ink isn’t a very bright idea? All this righteous babble on here does what, axactly? Makes sure the people here in the U.S. (where tattooing an animal isn’t even legal except for identification purposes) know that YOU’RE not an animal abuser? Good for you!. Fat lot of good it does, just posting a comment on an internet board. You want change. THEN GO CHANGE THINGS. It’s a hell of a lot harder to commit to change and do something about it than it is to rant about how wrong things are in the internet.
This is like that idiot who tattooed his Chihuahua. People getting tattoos is one thing. But honestly, don’t they understand the danger to the cat? A cat’s skin is so much more sensitive, there is less fat to protect their organs, and anesthesia is furry furry hard on a kitty. Color tattoos are even harder because they require more time and needles. In America there are still many questionable tattoo parlors even with regulations. Mew can’t even imagine the conditions in Russia. What if that poor kitty had been sharing a needle with a druggie Russian Mobster? Some tattoo artists do reuse needles when they set up their machines fur a new tattoo. And mew never know where the needle might have come from in the first place. Just cos it looks sterile doesn’t mean it wasn’t bought cheap and is used. Meowmie and I are spitting and hissing big time that anyone would do this.
this is not acceptable.
There are a lot worse things a person could do to their animal. Really, my only problem is the anaesthetic for three hours. It can take a year to leave the system, and is actually more stressful on the body than an actual procedure. Then again, I don’t think spaying and neutering are as important as they’re made out to be (providing the owner takes the steps to ensure there are no accidental litters). Altering an animal is surgery, and as such has all the same dangers as any other surgery (although male cats don’t need to be anaesthetized for the procedure). Many people don’t realize this when they take their pet in. You have to weigh the risks: complications on the table, or possible cancer.
Personally though, I think a better way to go about the tattooing would be to use something like a vegetable based dye on the skin and paint a tattoo on. The best thing about that is that she can change the tattoo if she wants.
I am sure this will be the least popular post here but…..
Are you kidding me? We put sweaters, stupid hats, little booties, diamond collars, and all sorts of other adornments on cats. We subject cats to spading, declawing, domestication, screw up their diets, force them to use a litter box, stick needles in them every few months, force feed them medications…. good lord the list goes on and on and on. A “good” cat owner does those things and I know it is in the interest of their cats and with the best intentions. Realistically speaking, all of that can be considered torturous and cruel. I do not agree with tattooing a cat; because I feel it is an absolute waste of time and money, it has nothing to do with the arguments listed. Until we release cats back into their natural habitat, the arguments listed are unconvincing.. US (I include myself in that) cat owners are no better then the folks who are tattooing them. Oh and one more thing… how exactly is it that we know they do not want tattoos. I have them, but I am the only one in my family who does. I would never force my boys into getting one, but I would take them to the tattoo parlor if they asked me to. Just like a cat cannot speak up and say I do not want one, they cannot speak up and say they do. If these cat-owners want to be stupid and waste their money on it then that is their decision. At least they are not going to seedy tattoo parlors; trained professionals and Veterinarians are doing it. I am sure they are doing it in a way that is not any more harmful or cruel then the above-mentioned procedures.
The Russkies might be capitalists now, but they’re still evil!
I have a bunch of tattoos on my own body & I love them. Incidentally, they are tattoos of all my cats. I know how much pain they caused while being done. I would NEVER, EVER subject my babies to unneccessary pain just for my own vanity. EVER!!! The people who do this should not be allowed to have pets. Animals cannot speak for themselves; they trust their very lives to us. Pets are to be loved & protected, not harmed or mutilated – especially for cosmetic purposes! This makes me so mad!!! Maybe PETA will see this & get involved. Then we might see some animal cruelty charges being brought against them. (I don’t believe in declawing, ear-docking, tail-docking, or anything else like that, either!)
Oh yes, and Kathie:
“If you are stupid enogh to want a tat go for it”
Uhm… Really? Was that necessary? Getting a tattoo is a personal choice, and is not stupid in any way. Just because someone chooses something different from you does not make them stupid. Stupidity spawns from ignorant remarks like yours. I myself have a tattoo, which was done by tracing a photocopy of my dog’s paw, so it’s the exact size and shape as her actual paw. It also has her name, Suki, in Japanese kanji on the center pad. I now have a small piece of my dog with me on my wrist forever. Please think before you type (and it’s enough, not enogh by the way).
As I am reading all the postings here I see ,many who believe people should not be upset by this and telling others how they should worry about people in a far off country well that is not the question being asked here .and as well you fix your animal please before you start saying things such as these comments as others have do your research one having your animal fixed is for health reason for female cats it one lowers the risk of breast cancer for them in males it greatly lowers there risk of prostate cancer by 80% and those are facts also it lowers the numbers of homeless pets in this world that will end up put down in 3 to 7 days in any animal shellter.. unless a the animal is either picked up by there owner a group takes on the animal and has it fosterd so please think before you speak on other matters you do not have all the information on ..Now on to the subject at hand this is a form of animal abuse no matter what way you want to shake your stick at it if you can justify it to yourself well then there is honstly no point in even trying to reason with you .. also think of this if the coloring from the ink can harm a person and yes it can one never knows what will happen when you add something to the body that it did not come with a person can tell a doctor whats wrong where it hurts how they feel a cat can not as we are there owners and people we are the voices for these little guys .. honestly would you tattoo your own child ? no you wouldnt one it is againts the law to do so but yet animals have fewer laws in this country to protect them that is why you have the hsus the aspca out there fighting for animal rights and trying to change the laws in order to help protect them . also think of this was the person a anesthesiologist? for animals ? one that works only on animals the answer to that is likely no when drugs of any type are givin such as ones that will knock you out they need to be givin my a trained person in one people two animals you wouldnt want a vet working on your child as you wouldnt want a normal everyday MD working on your pet there is a difference in make up in our bodys from a cat they have less to protect there little bodys they we do as people the animal could get an infection due to the ink or lack of the place being clean same if it was a person but indeed it is not a person to some of you it is just a cat . and yet so many do not see the loving realtionship people can have with there pets and yes in some statements are true we do take care of weather the animal eats is warm has a home gets vet care and so on but on the other hand how is tattooing your cat fair to the animal the pain afterwords for one the itiching and the fact that like in people the dear little thing could be allergic to the ink . i could be sarcastic as some have been i could say many things here but i will not my post is one to give a few facts and two to make you think a little bit more before you post know your facts and think of the pet in a different light what if that was your child . animals have hearts they feel just like people do weather it is love for there owner or pain being sad playful they react to everything they just dont have the voice to speak it . in the end this is animal abuse and a crule thing to do to your pet your pet is loving and loyal to you trust there lives to you and yet people still do things for vanity this was done nothing more then cosmatic for the owner just because you own the animal does not give you the right to do what ever in gods green earth you want to it . the oweer of this littlei kitty should not be allowed to have a pet based of her actions of animal abuse she treated this kitty like an object not a living breathing being in no manner is this right to tattoo pierce or do anyother type of bodly harm to your pet . no matter how you write this or how you shake your little stick to it this is wrong ..
There is no reason to ever tattoo an animal! End of discussion. This woman should be horse-whipped!
BLECH!!!! No, no, no!!!!! Mom would NOT do this to us, we know that for sure! She sits with us when we have to have a shot, not to mention anything as crazy as this tatoo-ing thingy! Nope, Mom would not do this to us and we would NOT allow her to do it! It sounds too vain to us. We take pride in our natural born beauty to ruin ourselves with a tatoo! Thanks, but NO THANKS!
Cats can die under anesthesia. Why would you want to risk losing your “investment” that way (let alone your beloved pet)? Note that I have a tattoo myself, so this is not about the tattooing, but about what is being tattooed.
I find “decorating a cat” with a tattoo to be offensive. Cats are IMHO most beautiful when they are wearing the decorations they came with—their fur and their natural markings.
I have tatoo’s, they are painful they need to be cared for while they are healing and I got mine of my own FREE WILL, this is barbaric and she should be brought up on animal curelty charges!!!!
What’s next? Their small children? Babies? These people should not be allowed to have pets!
I do not agree with the practice of tatooing any animal. Not just for the gratification of the owner. Pet’s are supposed to be members of the family. They cannot speak up for themselves, and I do not believe they would choose to tatoo themselves if they could speak up. I am not dissagreeing with the practice of tatooing, just the practice of tatooing of animals.
I am absolutely appalled that a vet or clinic would stand for this. The tattoos that are used to identify that a patient is spayed/neutered is completely different than what these people are doing. I can’t express just how ticked off this makes me. I like tattoos on people but we can make those decisions for ourselve, our pets can’t speak for themselves. I really do hope that something will happen to stop this from further happening.
I think it’s cruel for the animals, but there’s so many cruel people nowadays doing horrible, unmentionable things to animals, that it sickens me to even have to read or hear about them.
This sort of thing should be out lawed and the violators punished. tatoos are not even a good thing for people to do to their children, let a lon a defensless animal.
THERE OUGHT TO BE A LAW!!!
In my humble opinion, anything in the way of tattoos or piercings should not be done unless the subject is able to put forth consent for the act. It doesn’t matter if it looks cool or not….it just seems wrong to me. And anesthesia can be very dangerous, so it seems to me that putting an animal through that risk for this purpose is not wise.
THIS IS CRAZY!!!!!!!!!! TO ME IS ANIMAL CRUELTY!!!
VERY UPSET!!!
@Ratha: You are a f&^%ing moron. End of story. People are protesting this practice here because their opinion was asked for. If you asked any of these people their thoughts on cosmetic docking or declawing you would probably get the same horrified and outraged opinions. If you think people don’t try to do anything about those other issues, you need to make friends with Google and see what’s really going on about it. The responsibilities of ownership require the person to see to the well-being of their pet above and beyond the petty human wants and people who can’t handle that shouldn’t have pets.
I don’t have tattoos yet, though my fiance does, but I have three cats and never would I subject them to such an unnecessary and painful procedure. Their skin is thinner than ours, they have none of the fat stores to pad and reduce pain, for survival cats hide pain so their owner will never know if the animal is suffering, the risk of infection is much higher even with good after care… there are so many reasons not to do this that I can’t even believe there are people here trying to excuse the idiotic pet owners of any wrongdoing. Sadly, there is precedent for the comment about other countries not having the same opinions about their animals that Americans or some other countries do. In many places, animals are still possessions, not feeling creatures, so whatever the owner wants to do with or to them is acceptable. I personally can’t wait until there are enough animal protection groups to make that lifestyle and attitude towards companion animals anathema to the world at large instead of just in some countries.
This is aweful…..how selfish on the owners part
No No No No NO! You do NOT tattoo cats or dogs. They can’t say hey I want one, they can’t take care of the healing process; there’s skin peeling, risk of infection, plus Sphinx cats require extra care normally. What will this do to their fragile skin?
Ok, they were sedated during the process – sedation carries its own risks. And guess what, tattoos burn and hurt after they’re done, not just during the process.
These are living, breathing, feeling companions, not accessories. The difference between them and an adult is they can’t give permission, they can’t say “wow, cool, yeah I want to be inked”. It’d be like giving a 5 year old child a chest or other body part covering tattoo. You just don’t do it.
What ethical, licensed tattoo artist would even consider doing something like this? I have tattoos, but I’m a consenting adult and I know for a fact that the person who did my ink would never consider doing something like this.
Sickening. These people should not be allowed to have the privilege of having a loving, needing to be cared for in every way, respected as a living being living with them.
There do need to be laws against this type of thing since people don’t seem to have common sense.
No this is not alright. It’s cruel & senseless. I don’t care if the animal is put out during the session. These people are just stupid & are not animal lovers no matter what they claim.
HOW DUMB,NOW IS HER OWNER GOING TO GET SAME DONE ON HER BOOBS?
What a shallow mind to abuse an animal — this person and the tatoo “artist” should be prosecuted.
It’s very simple! People consider getting a tatoo. They find out how it is applied – they are told the pain level and other possible dangers – they make a decision whether or not they want to go through with the procedure.
Cats have no clue what a tatoo is – how it may hurt – that they may be injured or even die from bleeding (their bodies are much smaller) or die from the anesthesia. THE ARE INNOCENT ANIMALS that we need to protect, not to mutilate.
When are animals going to be truly protected against cruelty just like kids? I have tattoos and I know some of them can really hurt after the fact so I know this poor baby suffered from this idiots actions. People should be beat for doing such things, even the person who gave the tattoo should be.
People that do this kind of crap should be SHOT!!!Its DISCUSTING & SICK!!!
End of conversation~~
Why anyone would do that to a cat is beyond me. I wouldn’t do it to myself why would I want to do it to my family pet ? They must be out of their minds !!! If you want a tattoo put it on yourself not on your pet !!
Definitely not. To put a cat through 3 hours of that just for the owner’s pleasure is terrible. Cats (animals) are not objects that we humans can do with as we please. As another person mentioned, would you do this to your child? Shame on those who would subject any animal in their care to such terrible and unnecessary procedures.
I’m reading back through posts talking about tail and ear docking – against it totally, would never have it done to a dog (or cat or any critter) as I think it’s cruel and done for “looks” or because it’s the “norm”.
Declawing, there was a time when that was considered normal and ok. That’s changed, at least here. Cannot find a vet who will declaw a cat anymore. We had 1 cat declawed because he was amazingly destructive. Once we found out what was involved? Never again, and that was before vets said NO to it.
Spay/neuter – you have a responsibility as a companion to help your companion live a long, healthy, comfortable, happy life. Spay/neuter has been shown to increase the lifespan of pets having this procedure. Also decreases spraying and other anti-social and unpleasant in-home things and helps decrease the likelihood of unwanted litters. As people who do cat rescues in our neighborhood I can’t begin to stress how important that is.
There is a big difference between needed vet care, sedation, surgery and things like Oh I think I’ll get my cat a full chest tattoo that could become infected, hurt, cause skin problems, allergic reactions and the unnecessary sedation risks … just so you can have a “cool” looking living accessory.
I’m not big on the dressing up of pets either, but at least usually? the only thing that gets hurt is the pet’s pride. And for some pets, a sweater, coat, even booties can be a help in cold weather if they have to go outside (like a very short haired dog that doesn’t take well to winter). That’s doing them a favor even if they don’t like it. And it’s not permanent!
IT HONESTLY MAKES ME SICK. THIS GAL IS NOT PLAYING WITH A FULL DECK!!
SHE’LL GET HERS. THIS IS ANIMAL CRUELTY!!!!!!!!!
the tat art is kewl but not kewl to put on a cat the idea is obscene and cruel to subject a cat to needles and anesthesia for something so unnecessary i just cannot fathom
Yes, this is obviously wrong and unfair. The last time I checked cats cannot talk, which means there is no way that he/she could have made their own choice with their own voice. But, there are other things to worry about. Of course, you can comment on this, i mean I am commenting, right? But, do not forget that there are animals being abused even worse than this.
The cats do not look happy. And this is both humans fault. Vet and owner. The vet should not have even agreed to this procedure. It was all for the money$.
Yes, the russains are fairly barbaraic, as i very much agree with Roberta.I think I would know since my mother grew up in Eastern Europe and she certainly loves animals! She knows how the russains are. But, of coarse not all Russains. but, the majority. It should be stopped, but not as a first priority! what about animal fighting and more intense abuse such as leaving a dog outside in the heat or rain or snow withought food just chained up. that is far worse than this! think it through. The world’s ways are wicked. Was this how God wanted us to live?
Absolutely a clear cut case of animal abuse. I can’t get over how many people in this world use and abuse animals for their own benefit. It disgusts me how people “modify” their animals looks just for themselves. What in the world r these poor animals gonna get out of being tattooed? Please tell me the logic in doing this to a helpless animal.
Dude! I’m 10 years old and I think thats just plain wrong! That is sooo cruel! Why would they even do that! It’s so weird!
I worked as a vet tech, and assistant surgical tech for 8 years before becoming a tattoo artist like I always wanted. Now 9 years into my tattoo profession – I’m shocked that a doctor would put an animals life at risk under anesthesia for a tattoo. I thought cropping animals ears was brutal – these people are not cat lovers they are just selfish and it’s all about what they want. If you really love animals you should take the money for this procedure and send it to an animal rescue. From the tattoo work and the cost of anesthesia I would bet you spent at least $600 or more. What a waste.
if you think getting a tatt hurts you’re a pussy
zing
OMG!!! what are these people thinking god gave these animals natural tattoos why would you do something like that it’s so wrong it’s animal cruelty and these animals should be taken away from these people the only thing i agree on is microchipping cause it doesnt hurt the animal and well if they get lost they can be reunited with there owner but tattoos are crossing a line that should never be crossed poeple who do this are sick. just thinking about it is making me angry and it also makes me sick. people need to stop and our stupid government needs to step in and help these aniamls you know there americans too.
Bob Funland your an ass
This is animal cruelty and shows the owner to be a stupid vain person who isseeking attention through her pet! This is sickening…
I personally think this is stupid and a total waste of $. If these people have the $ to spend on something so frivalous, they should really think about doing something constructive and positive with the $ like donating to a charity to help sick children or animals. SHEEEESSSSHHHHH the stupidity!
Mommy and Daddy would do this to me and I would love them forever. I think it is more cruel to being a boring cat that no one bothers to talk about. KILLER TATS MY MEOWIE
I am heavily tattooed myself, the difference being I am a person, and can make that decision for myself. I think tattoos are beautiful, but so are cats, and they do not need a tattoo..
A cat is not an accessary to decorate, but a living breathing companion to be loved and protected. This is wrong, and I hope it does not become a trend.
If people want a tattoo, put it on themselves, not on the cat
After reading this story to Domino, my cowcat master, we have mixed feelings.Though never having subjected myself to ink art, I have seen a number of masterpieces on others. Regarding Mickey’s tattoo, the detail and workmanship on it is outstanding…a true Rembrant.
The downside of tattoos is their purr-manency. Many a friend have tattoos naming their first love even after their second divorce, forever reminding them of her evils. Once done it can’t be undone, Although Domino would ever stand it, an appropriate collar or neckless should suffice.
Overall, Domino and I giive it 4 hisses out of 5.
Sincerely,
Alan and Domino
I am SO closed minded, I think PARENTS who allow there boys under age 16 to have there ears peirced, should be taken away from there homes and into shelters for abuse. Tat A Cat…I think not!
This is the most stupid and selfish act by a cat owner that I’ve ever heard of! If you want to subject yourself to this type of thing, that’s your business. To subject a helpless animal to tattooing just to satisfy some idiotic fantasy YOU have is cruel and heartless. It serves no useful purpose at all and should be illegal.
This is awesome.
let’s all stop pretending that animals are spayed and neutered for their “health”. it’s done mostly for our convenience, to make them better pets-and because it hurts our consciences to imagine our animals contributing to the mythical animal overpopulation problem. yes, i said mythical. left to themselves stray animals would survive. they would have shorter, less physically comfortable lives…but they would not have lives of pain and unremitting misery. it just kills me when a person cries a bucket of tears over a lost dog notice on a telephone pole-but makes a face and rushes on when a homeless person asks them for change.
yes, animals have fewer rights than human children. which is as it should be. human children should have more rights than they do, actually…now there’s a cause worth having a fit about. and the lady who was piercing the ears of kittens was NOT convicted of child abuse, but animal abuse-and she should have. as for this? i think it’s less than kind, but so is spaying and neutering and i do that. yes, i think it’s an unnecessary risk for a silly reason…but it is also well-done, and actually quite gorgeous. perhaps beauty is its own necessity.
parents have their infant boys circumcised every day, which is an unnecessary procedure that has resulted in mutilation and death. they have their infant girls’ ears pierced-and i know that’s painful. when the bodies of human children are held inviolate, and protected by law, then i’ll waste energy over tattoos on cats that are conducted under anesthesia, maintaining sterile conditions, and receiving good aftercare.
YOU ARE SO MEAN!!!
That makes me want to cry! That poor kitty!! He’s beautiful already. Save the tattoos for the ugly, stupid humans that are so hideous the only way they can get people to look at them that’s not in disgust (at least in their tiny miserable minds) is to get some “beautiful” work of art permanently inked on their piggy skin! Cats are way to smart to have something like that done to them. I mean really?! What kind of inbred cur would have such an idiotic idea?
I CAN’T BELIEVE SOMEONE WOULD SUBJECT THEIR CAT TO SOMETHING LIKE THAT. SHE DOESN’T BELONG OWNING A PET IN MY BOOK. WHEN I TOLD ABBY, JESSE JAMES AND STORMEY THEY LET OUT A SCREECH YOU WOULDN’T BELIEVE. I TOLD THEM NOT TO WORRY I WOULD NEVER DO THAT TO THEM.
ANIMAL CRUELTY
poor kittie!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
you dont sedate your kittie to do something like this. it is shameful. just unfair to the kittie……
That’s absolutely ridiculous. People that do things like that should not be allowed to have pets. In my mind that’s a form of animal cruelty.
How f’ing horrific…I’d like to see those that gave their cats tattoos, be given one themselves without any say. Someone knock these owners out and find a tattoo artist to defame their faces and bodies and not stop at any whimper or cry. They are just stupid IDIOTS doing this for their own pleasure. If you wanted a decorated cat, then by one with fur. Hairless cats were bread to be hairless, for what reason,…,probably just for someone to be able to then decorate the cat with tattoos. POOR SWEET KITTY!!!
This is absolutely appalling. It’s bad enough that people color their pets, but tattooing? Oh my god, how painful and how inhumane. I’d like 5 minutes alone with anyone who commits such a despicable act to felines.
What? this is nuts! These cat’s have no say so and this should be illegal. It’s like people who tattoo their kids.
NO,No NO NO NO NO– if people want to disfigure their bodies with tattoos it is their decision to bear the pain, but our pets don’t have a say so in the matter. Tattoos on pets should only be done for identity purposes. And a microchip takes care of it without disfiguration. ticks me off that anyone can be so stupid!
Cats are beautiful without tattoos! Their natural markings that God gave them are their individuality. Check out the beauty of a tortoiseshell or torbie cat; all those colors blended together in an awsome design. Van-patterned cats with their heads sporting little caps and tails to match, are stunning! That is natural cat beauty! NO TATS FOR CATS, PLEASE! I would NEVER do that to my cats!! NEVER!!! I’m appalled about this whole thing! People who do this to their cats or dogs are sick! That’s all I can say!
i have 4 cats and i have alot of tattoos. i would never ever put my cats through anything like that. i feel it is just plain cruel. Did the cat ask for the tat, they had to put him out to put it on,sham on the owner of this poor cat. cats are beautiful just the way they are.
The person (and anyone else)who had the tat done should have to have one done the equivilant size to their chest area. One that big on a cat would be a huge almost full upper chest size on a human.Make them feel the pain the cat felt when it woke up and the continued pain and discomfort till it fully healed. Several WEEKS LATER !!!!
Tats are only needed for identification reasons. Small and hidden.
Anyone who tats their cat for ANY other reason truly hates animals and is INTO torturing them. People who have been found to torture animals often turn out to have to problem seriously hurt/killing people.
ANY WHO TATS A CAT ITS SICK AND DANGEROUS and should be fined and jailed for cruelty to an animal. The animal owner should be too.
Heads up, people! This didn’t happen in this country, it happened Russia: no SPCA there, maybe SPCR? It’s a total waste of money when you consider the number of people in the world that are hungry and/or homeless, but the Russians probably don’t care about that. Have they forgotten having to stand in line to get food? I guess they are all rich now and can afford ridiculous things like tatting their pets.
I think it is horrible. Sure humans get tattoos, but they have a choice, cats can’t say “no”. I think it should be treated as cruelty to the animal since it’s dangerous to its health and who knows the psychological impact such a change to the cat’s appearance has on it. I know my long-haired cat was seen as a stranger by my other cat when all I did was have her coat trimmed to help her cope with the heatwave we had.
It is absolutely horrible. I am not anti-tats – I have 4 myself. But I’m an adult human who can decide that I want to do it. Tattooing a cat for decorative purposes is abusive.
I say we shoot these peoples feet up with Novicane then string them up by their toes for 3 hours. When they complain about it we can always say, “But you were anesthetized!” Idiots! I am quite sure that given a few minutes I can come with many more “unmentionable ways” to torture them.
That may be the most revolting thing I have ever heard of. The cat certainly can’t have spoken a desire for that disgusting thing and it is certainly a form of animal abuse. Never cared much for the Russians before this, but now I positively loath them. How gross. I am almost in tears.
THIS IS SICK AND DIGUSTING!! I WONDER IF THESE PEOPLE WOULD DO SOMETHING LIKE THIS TO A NEW BORN BABY!!!!
Not only is this inhumane, it is also completely unnecessary. Cats are beautiful animals & need no embellishments whatsoever.
What was she thinking???? She must be a moron, it is cruelty to animals.
I dearly hope this is another production by Burton Silver & Heather Busch who did the book Why Paint Cats: The Ethics of Feline Aesthetics… I really, really hope this is a digital hoax/spoof.
that is so NOT ok. the cat can’t make the decision on it’s own whether it wants to be tattooed…… it is just silly!!! even though it was anesthesized, that in itself for a cat can be dangerous! some people still amaze me!!!
I know it is an individual decison for a person to get a tattoo, but personally I don’t like tattoos and would never have one. Being a cat lover, I find putting a cat under anesthesia for hours for such a foolish and UGLY reason — just to satisfy some pathetic need of the owner to draw attention to herself — is disgusting and cruel. Anesthesia always carries a risk and should only be done for medical reasons. To put a helpless cat through the painful aftercare, risking infection, makes me question if this owner has any feelings of compassion for her pet. Companion animals are a precious gift that some people obviously have no appreciation for. I just had to have my dear feline companion of 17 put to sleep days ago. I’d never dream of putting a cat I loved through something like this. I hope this practice is outlawed, the tattoo “artist” should be fined and the cat given to someone who wants a companion and will take proper care of it rather than making it a fashion statement or an accessory. To me this is stupidity’s final triumph. Someone who thinks this is clever probably wouldn’t find anything wrong with doing it to a helpless infant. Those who hurt helpless animals lack compassion and often go on to harm people. There is nothing fashionable or attractive about cruelty in any form.
i dont see how this could even be up for debate would pedeaphilia be up for debate? somethings are just wrong and they cannot be excused.
It is indefensible to subject a nonhuman being to a life-threatening procedure (anaesthesia always risks) and post-operative pain to please a human who desires decoration. I have several large tattoos. They hurt, sometimes excruciatingly. Post-tattoo discomfort and itching can be intense. I get to make this decision for myself. Until cats and other nonhuman animals can give consent, I vote that we use procedures only to save their lives and enhance their health and well being, but NEVER to please human wants.
I thought it was a photo shop joke when I first saw the photo. I can’t believe someone would actually do that. Poor cat. I hope they stop this practice everywhere.
It’s all about vanity, very selfish. These people obviously don’t care about the discomfort they are putting their cats through!
ANIMAL CRUELTY AT ITS MAX!!! Animals are so abused because they dont have a voice… HELP THESE LIL BABIES!!!
Every time an animal is anaesthetized, it’s system is comprimised. To do this for the sheer vanity of having a human procedure done on an unwitting, and otherwise, unwilling animal, is horrible. This is a practice that should be illegal, and anyone subjecting their pet to such a thing should be heavily fined.
How dare you tattoo your poor baby!!! You should be turned into the local SPCA for animal abuse!!! If you wanted a tattoo, that’s one thing, but to put it on your purr bug, not only you, but the a**hole tattooist that did it should be locked up and he should be shut down!!
YOU DISGUST ME!!!!!
If your cat could have made the decision as to whether it wanted a tattoo, that would be one thing, but it can’t so you are supposed to be the responsible one to take care of your pet. It’s like smoking when you’re pregnant, your baby can’t protect itself so you have to and quit smoking and be responsible for your baby. Your pet is your baby too. You have to protect it because it can’t protect itself.
I am HORRIFIED!!! This is the first I’ve heard of it and agree with every negative feeling on this site about this barbaric behavior! I have heard in the past of celebrities getting in deep public crap about piercing the ear of a pet so they could put a diamond stud in it, this is much much worse. I feel sickened by the thought.
Surely if the owner wanted her cat to look different, a henna paint could have been used rather than the full tattoo-job? Or would that have seemed to be too much like hard work to get it re-done every 6-8 weeks?
I’m not for the idea of animal tattooing other than for identification or health purposes (we had a labrador who had a pale nose and tattooing it to keep it from sun-damage/malanoma was suggested) but for the simple fact that the picture looks ‘cool’ and would be a ‘celebration of interesting times’???
Still, it’s easier to read this article than the one about the dog that was sexually assaulted and totured in Australia’s Bundaberg area.
http://www.news-mail.com.au/story/2009/11/23/what-brute-would-savage-these-dogs/
Even though I have a tattoo, I still feel this is not right, no matter the reason given
WTF those tats are expensive for one and for another that is just cruel… what if Mickey wanted a tat of Minnie instead? or perhaps Goofy on several levels.
LMAO
I think it’s an inhumane act to tatoo a cat or any other animal for that matter. They have absolutely no say in what you do to them and I think what the person doing this poor cat is criminal. It is unthinkable to me to subject one of God’s beautiful creatures to this procedure
What kind of idiot would risk serious infection, complications from anesthesia and PAIN on their pet?!!!I am totally AGAINST such an unecessary and CRUEL procedure! I think tattoos look tacky and dated on humans, but humans can choose.
Pets have no voice. There ought to be a law……
Unless your cat asks to be tatooed do not do that, it is pure animal abuse.
I get a sick feeling in my stomach after I realized that was a tat. I thought the cat had a shirt with screen print on it.
What if you got your cat a tattoo of YOUR face?!
There have been so many comments that I haven’t been able to read them all, so this may be a repeat. As some posters have noted, Sphynxes have delicate skin and need special care. Aside from the tattoo issue, the creation of “designer” cats by breeders can also be called into question. Should the Sphynx breed have been created at all? What about the show type Siamese whose skulls are so malformed that they end up exhibiting OCD traits, such as compulsive grooming? (And this is a naturally occurring breed that was originally quite different in its native country.) Or what about show quality, smushy-faced Persians and Exotic Shorthairs, who more often than not have problems with continual tears and stuffed up noses? Or, if we get into the dog world–ear and tail cropping are bad enough, but some breeds (Pugs come to mind) are, quite frankly, deformed. I am not against breeding. The cat fancy is filled with people who truly love cats, and as breeding and showing cost a lot of money, cat fancy people tend to be “educated” and on the upper side of the economic scale. The Winn Feline Foundation was created thanks to the Cat Fanciers’ Association, the largest purebred cat registry in the world. Their medical research benefits all cats. If it were not for the cat fancy, numbers of naturally occurring breeds (the Turkish Angora, the Maine Coon) would have gone extinct. Some cat breeds are the result of sudden mutations (Sphyxes, American Curls, etc.), some are carefully “manufactured” (Himalayans are a cross between Persians and Siamese), and some are hybrids with wild cat blood, such as the Bengal. Hybrid cats are somewhat controversial; the CFA does not accept them in their shows. Yet all of these breeds give their owners pleasure. A cat is a thing of beauty, as well as a pure soul that must be cherished. Simply saying that all breeders are evil (there are both good and bad breeders out there) does not take into consideration that certain people want a cat with a certain look, and will choose their cat accordingly, whether it’s a moggy or a purebred.
After that detour, back to the tattoo question: although I am not for it, I remain curious as to who did that (I have to say) very skillful tattoo? An artistic vet? A tattoo artist with a license to sedate cats? We need more information on this topic. No, I don’t approve of tattooing cats. On the other hand, I am reluctant to call Russians “barbaric.” Yes, Ghandi said, ““One can measure the greatness and the moral progress of a nation by looking at how it treats its animals.” But the U.S. and other “advanced” nations are still far from perfect.
I agree with the poster who pointed out that spaying and neutering are largely for the benefit of the owner. I have a rather general sense of the Great Watchmaker in the Sky, and I do not think that cats are the only living creature that must be desexed to be healthy and happy. Yes, female cats who are not spayed but don’t have litters are more subject to female forms of cancers–but so are nonparous human females (according to certain studies). As for male cats, as one vet has been known to say, they are less prone to get testicular cancer if neutered–because they do not have testicles. We spay our females so as not to have to set up a cardboard box outside the local supermarket labeled “Free Kittens,” and neuter our males so they won’t spray urine inside our houses or want to roam in search of an intact female.
As for the cat overpopulation problem–as the previous poster said–it exists yet doesn’t exist. My guess is that before spaying became a standard surgical procedure, Fluffy’s unwanted litter was put in a bag and thrown into the river. Whether feral colonies pose health problems for humans or not–that is a matter for consideration. Spay and neuter can cut down on the number of ferals, but have you ever been seriously discomoded by the existence of feral colonies? Pet cats who are allowed outdoors are equally able to defecate where they want, pass on various diseases, and if not fixed, contribute to the numbers of cats that are relinquished to shelters.
Sorry…this has been totally off topic. But while I think the Sphynx was put through unnecessary pain and danger with the tattoo, I also don’t think that we Americans (well, most of us are Americans) can necessarily point fingers at the way cats are treated in other societies. Let’s clean up our own yard first.
I just can’t believe people could be so crule to their pets.. it’s just simply WRONG!Q
this is such a disgusting act. if a human being complains that tattoos are painful, and it is THEY who wishes to get one, that’s their own bloody business..
this is an animal, a cat, one which is helpless and one which definitely did NOT ask for a tattoo – much less one so extensive, as like King Tut.
the animal goes through unnecessary pain – sure he was under GA, but once he wakes up, there would still be aching and the healing process.
i just think it’s inhumane. these people deserve to be FORCED into a tattoo that’s HUGE and on their necks.
Doing a tat on a human is one thing but putting a tat on a poor and innocent animal is just sick!!!! Animals do not have a say in how they are cared for it is up to their owners to do that and giving them a tat is not taking csre of your pet.
This is so sick- I can’t but hold the owner responsible for such a foolish and selfish act. Shame on you!! Down right stupid!
VERY CRUEL!!! Should be outlawed – and yes I have 4 tattoos, but would not even think to subject that on my kitty!
Not nice. A cat only needs to be tattooed to identify that they have been desexed. Poor kitty.
Selfish!!! Sick!!! Foolish!!! Immature!!! Cruel!!!
Selfish and cruel- I agree. Also am concerned that the hairless cat may not be kept warm.
this is absolutely ridiculous!! what was the tattoo artist who did it thinking?? they should have refused,i think tattoos can be very beautiful -on PEOPLE who are old enough to make the decision, not defenseless animals who depend on their owners to do what is best for them!! this owner should be prosecuted for animal cruelty and the cat removced and placed in a safe loving home!
You can make any rationalization you want, but it is a cat…an animal without a voice as to what we do to them. No less than a baby .
It isn’t right , no matter what you say to try to make it sound ok to do. And anyone that says it is ok, needs a bit of compassion for animals and probably humans ,too.
Absolutely ridiculous. Cruel, stupid, idiotic, and absolutly insane. The cat should be removed from the home and given to someone who will love and care for it properly. The owner is a moron, and his punishment should fit the crime, he should be sent to prison and tattooed by one of the many members of general population. That punishment would be righteous.
No, no, no! Disgusting, stupid, selfish, irresponsible, unnecessary risk to kitty and unnecessary pain and stress. If your cat wants a tattoo, she’ll go get one herself!
Someone should shake those people.>;|
I think people who do this to their cats are stupid and cruel. Animals have no say so as to what happens to them and I can’t imagine anyone being so heartless, but obviously it does happen. Maybe people who do that should be tied down and tatooed. They should be sent to prison for cruelity to animals.
We have to give credit to “no name” fur putting out her/his thoughts in a very unemotional way! Very thoughtful. Not sure if we agree with all you said, but it does make us pause & think (rather than just going off totally emotionally!). That said, we just hope the kitty will be ok (Wow! Our Mom would NEVER do this!), or that this is a very VERY ill-conceived prank (though human stupidity seems to preclude that!).
Any tattoo parlor that would do this should be shut-down. Although the cat was put under (gross negligent on that alone) there is still pain associated as the wounds heal.
But instead of just writing this, I am going after those tattoo parlors. Nothing can be done for the sick souls that did this to the cat (oh please, screaming for attention, we aren’t listening), but I can sure go after the tattoo parlors.
It may be poisonous to the cat not good
OMIGOD!! cant imagine a real animal lover putting their companion animals thro this. Fuck those ‘animal lovers’ who use their animals like toys to please themselves. Awful abuse of this poor cat
The cat did not die. It probably suffered. I disapprove of tattooing cats so that they become fashion items. But I don’t want to be species specific–all lives are precious–but if you have enough energy to whine on the Internet about tattooed cats, how about helping to save homeless cats from gruesome deaths, or for that matter, human children from child abuse?
WTF? i cannot believe people would put a tattoo on an animal. it already hurts for humans to get them, let alone an animal who cannot take Nearly as much pain as a human can. For people to treat their pet as a “toy” is horrible. I treat my cat as i would treat my own son, with love & respect, as a parent should. F**k all animal abusers and fake “animal lovers”.
Cats and dogs are little creatures for us to love and care for, they ask for nothing in return for their love and devotion to us, why would one inflict pain on an animal?
as a breeder of cats i am appauled by this.
i rather breed persians than naked cats just because of this.
i have seen cats being died and cats being painted like fish but THIS TAKES THE CAKE
how can people doo this!
I say this, not having read the 400 some comments before me, so I apologize for the repetition that is sure to follow. As a cat owner, and a person who has tattoos, I think it’s really abominable that someone could subject their pet to the pain of a healing tattoo merely so they can show off their inked pet.
As someone near the top mentioned, there are risks involved in anesthesia, there are risks involved in the tattoo process, and there is the possibility that the animal could have a reaction to the ink, never mind the weeks of healing that wound and the risk of infection.
Furthermore, there is no good reason for a pet to have a tattoo. People get tattoos because they want to, because they feel it is an expression of themselves, or maybe just because they think it’s cool, in some ill-thought cases. Clearly, no cat decides it would like to get tattooed. The only reason someone would have their cat tattooed is for their own vanity. It’s unspeakably selfish and cruel to tattoo your pet.
THAT IS ABSOLUTLEY NOT ACCEPTABLE!!!
This is an outrage. Did anyone think that the cat wanted to have this done to him. I hate tattoos of any kind as I think they are disgusting. The owner should be tattood all over face if she thinks this is so pretty. This is a living breathing animal not a pretty toy!
Can the cat speak, of course now…She showed no respect for the cat!
I think this girl ought to see a doctor, see has mental problems.
She isn’t someone who should have a cat, because she shows no RESPECT and we all know cats thrive on respect.
She should ask a doctor why she did this to her cat.
She should also find a better home for the cat. I hope she hasn’t harmed the cat in any other way.
It’s just plain disgusting.
isnt there enough cruelty out there to all animals, this is just another way of stupid people who must have more money than sence proving themsleves what they are. it is total abuse of the cat. these people are selfish, mindless and have no thought for what should be a beautiful sharer of their world. materialistic is obviously what they are, it should be stopped they have no right to do this.
this is sooo animal cruelty
its not good fr kitties n is also painful
huh, im against it
jenny xxx
ithink it is just terriffing to make any animal sit threw that i would like to stick needles in them all day and see if they like it cruel is all i can say you should be put in jail for animal cruelty
What a horrible and cruel thing to do. It is only to draw attention to the cruel and selfish owner. Also, it opens the door for others to try to justify acts of cruelty. I hope it does not catch on here (Canada).
pretty sure the first cat is smiling
While on the subject, it occured to me that race horses are tatooed under their upper lips for id purposes. THAT should also be stopped. I know from experience, that it is painful for them.
This is animal abuse. We have a choice if we want to put ink on our bodies. Cats subjected to this have no choice and have to suffer the pain of the healing process.
Just awful.
This is just WRONG
I am not even reading a debate.
JUst No, never
This makes me sick!!!!!!
What is wrong with the human race????
CRAZY!
This is awful! Very cruel to the cat. There is no need to inflict pain like that. That show not be alowed.
All of you seem enraged by this tattoo. I myself do not approve of it. But there are many issues in the world that need attention–starving children, gross animal cruelty, etc. As much as I feel that this tattoo put the cat through unnecessary pain and danger–there are worse things in the world happening to animals and humans. Address those issues first, please. Yes, campaign for compassionate treatment of animals. But abusing a Russian for tattooing a cat is not going to get you anywhere. Go to the SPCA and volunteer. Do TNR trappings in your neighborhood. Just spewing bile may make you feel better, but I can guarantee that it will not affect Ms. Tattoo in the least.
To put a tattoo on a cat is cruel. To put a tattoo on our bodies is our choice, but why push it on them? What about the pain it causes them while it’s healing and not to mention the health risk it may cause down the road.Let them be who they are and if you love them you have to love them for how they look too
Nice tats, though.
I have recently discovered this site, and I find extreme hostility here. I agree that the cat tattoo is cruel. But there are so many crueler things happening to our feline friends–mass executions in all-kill shelters, for example. Campaign against them first. The tattooed cat is apparently still alive and loved in its own way. Shelter cats who are gassed to death are, in my opinion, much worse off than a tattooed cat. I don’t approve of the tattoo, but I can’t believe there are so many people posting about this, when there are bigger issues at hand. Yes, cruel. But he was not wrapped in duct-tape or glued to the highway. Those of you who are in horror mode because of this story, try doing some rescue work.
I wouldn’t be surprise if this starts becoming a trend in the USA as well. Especially, in Hollywood and those who love Hollywood. We all know the USA isn’t so great when it comes to animal laws either. Why would anyone think it’s ok to anesthetize an animal when the animal’s life isn’t at risk? There are risks eveyrtime a human or animal goes under and it’s well worth the risk when it can save a life, but not worth the risk when it comes to beutty. A person can choose for themselves if they want to go under to try to make themselves look better or go get a pretty tattoo, but a cat can’t. Untl we know for sure a cat comes to us asking, “Please, can I have a pretty tattoo? I know it causes pain, but it’s worth it.” then it shouldn’t be done. Any person with common logic should know that.
I agree with Fluffy’s post more people need to do rescue work. If our human parents hadn’t done rescue work we wouldn’t have a nice cozy home to live in. As for tattooing your cat that is just insane. What are they going to want to do next pierce us? It very cruel.
I think you are a COMPLETE FUCKING MORON for suggesting that people should be TORTURED for tattooing a pet. I have two dogs and a cat and they both have more brains than you, you fucking mongoloid.
That’s an awful thing to do and completely wrong.
I just read Fluffy’s response and I wanted to comment to that. How in the world do you think most animals end up in a shelter? It’s because the previous owners only think about themselves and when things start to go bad they wind up giving the animal away to a shelter and once again because people are selfish they don’t want any of the older animals which causes them to be harmed and killed in some shelters around the world. There are some things I miss about my home country of the USA, but one thing that I LOVE about Holland is that they do their best to protect animals. If they started with strict laws for minor things then maybe big things wouldn’t happen. That should be the case for the human world as well. So yes, there are worse things that could happen to an animal, but I’m pretty sure about 90% of that would be cut back on if minor things carried more punishment. I don’t think there is anything wrong with going to jail for 5 years for for giving your pet cosmetic surgery and when I say jail for 5 years, I mean for a full five years in a real jail cell. I also haven’t done rescue work, but I have volenteered at the pound and I know what some people are capable of. I wound up adopting an elderly diabetic cat who was at first anti-social because it was so clear he was abused in the past and considering us humans decided to take over nature every domestic animal deserves a loving home.
THIS IS SO WRONG!
Voluntary tattoos are one thing. Involuntary is quite another. Wonder if the owner has put them self through the discomfort and healing process of a tattoo. Not to mention the potential side effects of the anesthesia.
I vote jail time for cruelty to animals.
Why the hell would you put a tattoo on a cat?
Oh that poor kitty. You can see the worried look on his face that says he is not happy. How can people be so cruel? Any anaesthetic can be dangerous anyhow, and to put your pet through this, for your own sake is wrong and it makes me so angry.
Putting tattoos on animals is absolutely ridiculous and insane! People are not respecting the animals. They don’t have a voice to speak up and say if they want that tattoo or not. they have to put their faith in (obviously stupid) people that they will take care of them. Tattooing for ID such as the ear is one thing. But having a tattoo on for something else is stupid. IDIOTS!!!!!
I’m not so sure if the cat is happy or not. The owner is pulling back it’s scruff so the tatt can be seen better. If I were a cat, I wouldn’t even like my scruff being pulled back. I know mine don’t. I do think it’s inappropriate behavior for an owner to do something like that to their pet. I have never had a tattoo, but I hear from people I know who have them, plus some of the above remarks, that it is painful – more so afterwards than during the procedure.
The attitude that “it’s just a cat” bothers me, also. That’s the kind of attitude that leads to animal abuse in the first place. And it’s a proven fact that some people who abuse animals are likely to move on to abusing people, even become serial killers who also use torture.
Absolutely unbelievable! I am appalled that anyone would do this. Anesthesia is not something anyone should be subjected to without cause, much less for an animal, as they have no way of objecting or consenting to the procedure.
This is terrible..yes, this is a form of animal cruelty…It disgusts me to see people would do this….Tattoo an animal so the owner can feel good..It is sooo wrong. what is wrong with you people!! that poor animal….!!
This is the worse animal cruelty act done for such an insane reason. This person shouldn’t be allowed to ever have an animal.
Meowmie has 15 tattoos – several of which are cats. However, she would never have any of us tattooed. It’s just wrong.
disgusted me…………how terrible!!
its wrong. we’re suppose to cherish your pets not put them on display. out of all these cats tat r they’re owners tat
This is hideous. People can make a decision to get a tattoo but an animal cannot. Putting a cat under to give it a tattoo is a completely irresponsible and insane thing to do. Risking infection and compromising the animals health so a human can carry an animal around like an accessory is ridiculous. This should be illegal. Any moron that does this to a creature, “owner” or vet, should be punished.
This is totally wrong. Definitely against animal rights. The cats are forced to undergo this torture. Regardless if it is under anesthesia, what about the post-session swelling and skin irritation?
I don’t know why people would subject cats to this. And I totally understand the the sentiments of irina Novozhilova. I watched a short documentary on how Moscow is overrun by “gang dogs”; stray dogs that were abandonded to the streets and are very aggressive and territorial that they attack people. No dog will be like this unless they were subjected to traumatic experiences.
When my cat was diagnosed with liver disease he under went anesthesia twice for procudures to help him and both times I had to sign not just a waiver, but whether I would want them to resuccitate him in case he failed under anesthetic…so I can’t see why anyone would put their cat at such risk for a tattoo…I put my cat under in an effort to save his life.
There is certainly no comparison between tattooing to spaying/neutering, dressing kitty in clothes, ID, microchip, etc….putting anyone under anesthesia, whether cat or human, is high risk, so to do it for something as unneccesary as a tattoo IS just plain cruelty.
My other cat is diabetic and he learned to ask me for his insulin injections, so even a small needle everyday is not painful for a cat…it is a medical necessity to keep him alive and healthy and he seems to know that it helps him. But, imagine the horrific pain that poor cat experienced when waking from a tattoo…for me it’s a horrible thought.
And if you think itching during healing is nothing, think again…my poor cat put cuts in his neck from scratching at it, when it was healing from a small wound…It was horrible and he had to wear a heavy neck banadge just to protect his skin and wound from further damage.
Those who think tattooing compares anything to medical procedures, you are wrong, medical procedures are necessary, just like they are for people, but tattooing is not neccessary for anyone, it is pure vanity.
Unbelievable!!!!!!!!
This is a CAT. Did the cat agree to tattooing? I doubt he did! The owner should have undergone the procedure on their neck and chest!
This is the same as parents getting their young child tatooed. It was in the news recently and the parents were arrested. The child had no say. The cat had no say.
Horrible! I am totally disgusted about this subject.
Why do these kind of people adopt an animal anyway-
they shouldn’t be allowed to have an animal or heaven forbid a child!
and why aren’t they arrested or why isn’t the poor animal taken away?
We really need tougher laws!
I think the owners should be tortured in unmentionable ways. These owners do not have pets they have stuff. Just another way to draw attention to them selfs. A pet should be loved and protected from this kind of cruelity.
This is dreadful and that person should be prosecuted for abusing the cat and so should the person who tattood the cat. The cat should be removed from that animal abuser’s keeping too. To subject an animal to three hours of unnecessary anaesthetic for a cosmetic procedure which can cause massive infection due to broken skin is disgusting, this was done merely on the owners whim and for her own eccentric reasons and must have been incredibly painful for the cat. I despair of the human race, how low will some of us sink?
No owner who respects there Cat, should ever put there life at risk for some thing that is vain, they can’t speak for them self so we have to.. There to be cherished and loved ,and held in high esteme, after all we don’t own them, they own Us!
this is abuse ,it is no better than negelct, or beating them. No Vet should do these Tat’s , they can’t speak for them self so we have to ! BAN CAT TATOO’S!
That is so cruel ! Any idiot who has a cat tortured in that way should be subject to the whole of their own ignorant bodies, and I mean ALL of it, covered in tattoos done by unsterilised equipment and left to fester. Anyone agreeing to tattoo cats should be the ones forced to tattoo these low life animal abusers !
I still say that education is the best way to create better pet owners. If they had education regarding anesthesia, etc in Russia, maybe a different decision would have been made – Who knows. I have been reading all the arguments here, and many of us DO support other causes, and donate and do try to change things. Can we change Russia? Probably not, but expressing our opinions can sometimes motivate one to go ahead & get involved in making those changes. I just do not see the need for name calling of people just stating what they feel – either way. Just my 2 cents
How stupid! As someone who loves cats AND getting tattoos, I think this is absurd, not to mention cruel. I’ll happily cover myself in tattoos, but the thought of doing that to a pet is unfathomable. Who cares if they’re anesthetized during the procedure!?!
Besides the utter idiocy/unethical-ness of this, it also seems very impractical, from the tattooing POV. I’d guess that the health & cosmetic risks of getting a tattoo are probably 10x worse on an animal! First of all, there’s always the potential that you could have an allergy to the ink itself. Huge, unnecessary risk to the cat. Then there’s the healing process, which requires very deliberate care. An animal that uses its tongue to clean itself could easily get an infection in the newly tattooed skin. Also, healing tattoos are ITCHY!!! One of the worst parts of the process is trying not to scratch your new tat for the week or two it takes for the scab to fall off. If you do scratch, it can cause the area to develop scar tissue, which makes the tat look blurry/smeared. How is a cat not going to scratch itself??? A cat could easily “ruin” its tat, making the whole ordeal worthless.
Tattoos and other body-mods are painful and risky. When people choose to undergo them, we do it because we’re willing to take the pain and accept the risk for the sake of art, making a statement, or whatever one’s reasons are. Pets don’t get a choice. Nor do pets care about making a statement, last time I checked. Just because a pet is “yours” doesn’t mean you can inflict pain or risk its life. Spaying, neutering, or a medically necessary surgery = acceptable risks and recovery pain for your pet. Declawing, tattooing, or any other (god help us) cosmetic procedures done solely to satisfy an owner’s whim = animal cruelty.
If you want to make a fashion statement, buy your cat a t-shirt!
Well, I have to say… it LOOKS cool (especially the second photo), but I would definitely not ever do it to one of my cats.
If the owner wanted a tatoo, then she should have gotten one done on herself, not on her cat who had no say in the matter. I do not believe the stupidity of humans that subject their companions to their own brainless schemes. In my books this is animal cruelty.
Why does this not surprise me, Their Russian! Sicko’s!!!!!! People can not have tattoos without a consent form, so why should there be any difference for a cat or any other animal? They are cruel and ignorant, No common sense whats so ever.
As a licensed tattooer and cat lover I was appalled when I saw the article about this cat and the tattoo work. It is a violation of ethics and morals in regards to not only animals but the art of tattooing. The Chinese are ‘practicing’ on pigs then returning them to pasture so it was but a matter of time it leaked into the pet world. Stand hard and stand firm against this abboration!!!
As the owner of two sphynx cats, I find this terribly disgusting and outrageous. In the state where I live and practice law, this would absolutely be a criminal act as it would violate the statute on cruelty to animals (unfortunately, I don’t think it would rise to the level of a felony under the statute).
I am appalled that anyone (especially someone who owns a sphynx) would even consider dong this to their cat. Most reputable breeders put provisions in their purchase contracts allowing them to take cats back from the purchaser if they discover that they cat is being mistreated or not properly cared for. I really hope that’s the case here and that what this woman has done to her cat gets back to the breeder. She is unfit to own this cat (or, most likely, any cat).
Also, just to clear up any confusion, the sphynx breed was not “created.” The hairlessness of some sphynx (not all sphynx are actually hairless, some have full coats of fur) was/is a naturally occuring genetic mutation. Of course, breeders now breed their cats selectively (with extensive outcrossing) for the hairless trait. But the mutation is natural and would (and does) occur naturally, even without selective breeding.
That is so wrong! Most of us who have tattoos choose to have them, though I’m sure there are a few who woke up and wondered ‘what the h*ll happened’.
Tattoos for ID’s is fine and can be done without ‘knocking the pet out’.
What this person did and the tattoo artist is animal cruelity. They both should be strapped to a chair and have large tattoo put on their body or face and not a design they would like. Asshole across the forehead for starters.
Poor kitty.
4 paws with fully extended claws to your face and privates send by Diamond Kitty!
exactly what is so interesting about the times in Russia that makes you want to torture an animal i hope you care for with pain and suffering?
So, I have read about half of these comments; short of noticing the horrible, appalling misuse of the English language, I am shocked that most of the comments (both for and against) concern themselves with primarily irate emotions. I have yet to read one comment that actually is fact based and not based on a random emotion, thought, or unsanctioned tandem.
For those who don’t understand what I am saying, emotions, tandems, and thoughts are very random and most of the time have no foundation of truth to stand on due to the cognitive location of its origin. While the issue of feline body art is one I would like to see resolved, it never will so long as people throw out emotional tangents.
I want to see hard evidence. Where are the professionals in this debate?
Secondly, shame on whomever initially posted this thread without posting all of the details of what actually happened. Does the saying, “the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth,” mean anything to you? How can any one person make a rationalized decision on a topic without the truthful details? (Note: The primary purpose of this posting was to exact emotional turmoil and confusion in the hearts and minds of it’s readers. Also, shame on those who were weak enough to respond to this posting in such an unstable and emotional manner. If you are going to retort, at least provide some solid evidence with sources to back up your opinion(s).)
A description of the process that the feline underwent would be helpful. I saw several threads posted which were asking questions about the sanitary conditions of this process and many others like this question; all of which were unanswered in the initial thread.
Lastly, since I have yet to see any hard evidence (both pro and con) on the debated issue, I will refrain from retorting my personal opinion, since I am strong enough to not lash out irrationally. I look forward to reviewing any threads that actually contain professional evidence on feline body art, so that I may intellectually make a sound decision on the issue at hand.
I think the cats owner should be tattooed on her neck without the option of being out while it is done. Animals can’t speak up and say they do or don’t want it done. What makes her think the cat wanted that or that it wasn’t in pain after having it done?
disgusting,it should be banned, how can a owner put there pet through that much pain, dont they care what there poor cat goes through.
Dawn,
You have emphasized my points with your irrational and unintelligible statements. Obviously, animals cannot “speak” (thank you for the obvious), nor should an owner be penalized for something without true conviction of cruelty. It would not happen in our nation’s courts of law, nor should we crucify this owner here without proper knowledge of what actually happened.
“Ye who are innocent of guilt may cast the first stone.”
Once again, humans doing stuff to animals for their own pleasure. Tattoo-ing an animal? Wrong on many levels and shame on each and every owner that does this to them
The cat inte the first pic lokks slightly drugged still so I’m guessing that this is just after the tattoo and that is a very painful way too stretch a tattoo when it’s new!
I agree there are worse things in the world than this but maybe not for the cat!
The world is definatley screwed!
Carol,
According to your assessment of the issue, am I to understand that you are pro one-world order? Because, your option of banning feline body art would have to fall under this notion, since this occurred in Russia; and I am ninety-nine percent sure that you do not reside in Russia, nor do you abide by Russian law. More over, if you do actually think that the world should ban feline body art, how do you propose that we go about doing this? Who is going to implement it? or was this just another unjust, random emotional tandem proposed out of anger?
Also, we do not know if the animal in question even suffered the feeling of pain. The pet could have been given pain killers, as I have done with my own pets after extensive surgeries.
Those cats look fucking badass.
I hope that at least one person becomes just ever-so-slightly more intelligent today. Think, people! Please, think before you spout out another superfluous statement that is completely void of validity!!! It is no wonder that the country is in the shape it is in today! You people do not know how to see, think, and react intelligently and non-impulsively. I place more blame on you for the way society (in this country and around the world) is than for the few (and seriously, it is few compared to the majority) people who do manage to find their ridiculed story online or in the media. Learn something before your rant again!
I think this woman is sick & needs doctors help she should be put in jail for this that is abuse .
They should take the cat away from her .
Again, people say they are thinking thoughts, but they are actually acting out their irrational emotions and feelings through the usage of words.
How is this abusive? Describe to me the exact process of how she had her pet tattooed. Do you know? No, you don’t. So how can you state that it is abuse? More over, in her part of the world, which is Russia, a culture more different than our own (you would understand this if you had ever taken a ‘real’ college level geography course), it is acceptable for owners of feline to have feline body art performed.
Even more so, she technically did have a doctor’s help (in order to have anesthetics performed in the cat.)
Or was all of this, again, another emotional rant? I bet you guys will most likely not come back to this website to check on the status of the loosely entitled debate. Your statements are more for your own self-pleasure than to actually resolve a conflict. It is a way to pat yourself on the back, a congratulations of sorts to say that, yes, you did your part in making animal cruelty disappear.
I have news for you, it is still there.
I’m agast at that barbaric tattooing of her cat. It is not only cruel, ugly & totally unnecessary, but it was inhumane of the owner to submit her cat to 3 hrs under anesthesia for this horrid disfigurement.
Tattooing designs on cats is wrong on so many levels. It’s right up there with people who buy pets to match their decor…and then abandon them when they change their color scheme. Pets are not accessories and should be loved for their inherent qualities, not for cosmetic ones. Culturally, though, Russia lags behind in a lot of things. They went from communism to unchecked capitalism without a middle ground and as a result developed an ersatz kind of taste (I see this all the time in other situations). Culturally, Russia is in the nouveau riche stage; they like the status symbols but never developed the moral sense to have judgement about them. (Of course, there are quite a few Americans out there who are the same way…)
For the record, I feel that declawing, a common practice here in the United States, is just as wrong.
Robin, thank you for actually having an intelligent response. I appreciate it.
Also, I have had to have my cat’s hind leg’s declawed. He was born with underdeveloped legs and is unable to control them. His claws were unable to retract and therefore would hang on objects and flooring. While this is a very long and drawn out process, he is better for it in the end. I also made sure that he had his pain medication and follow-up check ups with the vet.
Since I have had to get my cat partially declawed, I can actually voice my true response to that subject. It is not something that I would willfully subject to any pet of mine. However, this was a medical emergency, and he was well taken care of and looked after.
Not right. No one would put their child under anesthesia and tattoo that child’s chest; why would you ever do that to an animal who has no voice in the matter? The owner doesn’t deserve to have a pet.
For Nash: cats have been domesticated for thousands of years. Behavior-wise, cats are much happier indoors than they are having a horrible life on the streets. They are never “forced,” as you say, to use a litter box; they are naturally inclined to use one. Even the most feral of cats has never failed to use a litter box on its own. You can not force a cat to do anything. Clearly you know nothing about cats.
For Thinking realistic and rational thoughts: having a legitimate medical reason for declawing a cat isn’t what I had in mind; I was thinking about those people who have the procedure done for their own convenience, not for the health and well-being of the cat. Clearly, you had your kitty’s best interest in mind, not that of your sofa. And good for you for keeping and properly caring for the disabled kitty! So many others would simply abandon it!
What the hell that cat looks awesome. You bunch of *******, that cat has been improved.
Yet another example of animal abuse, just to satisfy a stupid whim of a human being.
Lizzy you talk a load of rot!
Poor Baby, Who benefits…YOU or your beloved CAT. I agree…stupid human. Would you put your Child through that??
Cat’s are basically jerks that eat through your money, live the sweet life in your cool human house and get smothered with love and attention for no reason at all. I like cats and all, but if they want this cushy slacker lifestyle they can expect to get tattooed at my whim.
That’s absolutely shockingly horrible! I appreciate that these cat owners have a very different lifestyle to ours, but that’s appalling. That cat had no choice in the matter. You wouldn’t force a member of your family to have a tattoo inked onto their chest, so why put a cat through that?
And also, would the cat have needed to be placed under anesthetic if it WANTED to have the tattoo done?! I very much doubt it!
People constantly say how much they regret their tattoos, and how much they hurt. Who’s to say it’s any different for a cat?
It never ceases to amaze me the depth of people’s cruelty to animals. People’s actions against animals has a direct relationship to their acceptance of similar actions towards humans.
That is just cruel & wrong..the poor baby, the owners needs to have the cat taken away
As for the Sphynx not being a manufactured breed–as another poster said, the breed originated with a genetic mutation, but then hairless cats were bred selectively. Sphynxes are said to be healthy cats, but it is true that they have delicate skin and are sensitive to cold temperatures. Should this breed have been continued to be selectively bred? I have no opinion on this, nor does the cat fancy necessarily agree on issues regarding new breeds such as the Sphynx, Bengal, and Munchkin. Some people claim that certain breeds should not be bred because (as in the case of the Munchkin) they are regarded as deformed–by some people. But unusual breeds will always have a following. Should we continue to create new breeds that may or may not be considered deformed? Should this be more of an issue than some Russian woman tattooing her cat? And why has this particular topic attracted more attention than the article about the cat hoarder in Pennsylvania?
This is absolutely wrong. This is complete selfishness on the owners part. I have a steel bar that would leave some permanent marks on these owners. Those people are a disgrace.
That is nothing more than animal cruelty!! Both the owner and person who performed the procedure belong in jail!!!
Cats should absolutely not be tattooed!! It’s cruel to keep them under anesthesia for that length of time unnecessarily….Once again humans are putting stress on animals for human enjoyment. I hope the animal activists go after these people doing the tattoos.
Everyone who says this is abuse is retarded and can’t think of an argument of their own. All you’re doing is agreeing with the majority and repeating what everyone else said. I’m sure the anesthesiologist and tattoo artist who did this were properly trained, so the cat faced little harm there. As long as the tattoo is well maintained afterward, I doubt it causes the cat much harm, and won’t become infected. As for this so called mental anguish the cat experiences, where the hell do you get that from. The cat isn’t going to care whether it’s tattooed or not. It’s a cat, it doesn’t think about those sort of things. So if the owner wants to spend money on it, why the hell not, i think it looks pretty cool.
The only tattoo any animal should ever have is an ID one, and now with microchips you don’t even need those. And the only reason for declawing a cat is for medical purposes.
Cats are tools of the witch and the demon worshiper. You should all be ashamed of yourselves. God will cast all cat owners into a pit of fiery lava.
I am praying for you all.
Tattoos are meant for identification and for your pleasure to mark their skin with an ink that may have fatal consequences. What if your cat has an adverse reaction to the ink that was used? I think you are cruelk to your pet and you DO NOT deserve to own an animal. I hope the activists come after you. The cat did not have to be subjected to the stress of anesthesia or the pain of the tattoo. I hope you get what’s coming to you.
i think this is crule they should lose that cat they are not fit to have any animales or children theyre idiots!!!!!!!
What the hell was she thinking? That is no doubt animal cruilety!!!!!!!!!!!!! People like that should be put in jail and shouldbe banned from ever having another animail as long as they live. I have had cat’s all of my life and would never think to do somthing like that even though I have tattoo’s myself. I am sure that there is or should be a law against this abuse!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My 2 cat’s MeowMeow and Funnyfaces think so too.
This is outrageous.People will do just about anything for attention. Gee wonder what they would do to a chemo patient, well you know they can be hairless too !! Jerk -offs I just can stand how self centered people can be what they will do for attention. Hey may they can get their kids tats too quick before they grow hair. I think they should be arrested and the artist that did it should have their license revoked forever . I hope this gets outlawed who knows what will come next maybe body altering . Please alter yourself not your helpless animals.
No I do not believe in tatooing animals. They can’t speak for themselves so we have to do it for them. When it comes to animals God does his own artwork and he doesn’t need our help.
If a person wants to use their one minute of insanity to mark thierself — that is fine, ———– but to mark an animal for their own self-esteme is very selfish and hatefull!!!!!!! Animals are marked in their own way —which makes them remarkable in it’s self. Some people are just full of theirself, they do not think of what could happen to those we are suppose to love and care for.
I myself have 2 tattoos and discovered I am allergic to the red dye… NO WAY would I EVER put any of my “family” thru that! It hurt and now I wish I had used that money to help out the animals in the local shelters. PPL out there who have so much $$ that they can afford to either tattoo their cats or dye their fur, should take that money and give it to the SPCA in their area instead. God creates the animals as HE wants them to be. He doesn’t need help as Sara said.
That is absolutely horrible. I would never subject my cat to such an idiotic and hurtful thing. A lot of people get animals as accessories and treat them as such. Abhorrent!
i am not ok with tatoo on animals.why put a cat at risk just for show.this is such a selfish owner. How can you pretend loving your cat and putting at risk with anesthesia just to show the poor thing off.I thimk it is cruel, insensitive and selfish. What about putting the owner under anesthesia and tattooing her with a giant tatoo without her consent. How about that? You should be ashme of yourself..
@ Thinking realistic and rational thoughts–you are actually ranting more frantically than anyone else on this thread, and your English skills are poor. Go back to school, relearn logical thought processes and the English language, and then come back to post some intelligent comments.
We admire anyone who adopts special needs cats and takes care of them. But we are puzzled by the concept that one must “rescue” a cat in order to be a humane owner. I’ve had two special needs cats myself, and since I am a special needs human, their care simply became too much for me, and I rehomed them with responsible people. What about special needs children? Humans are hard-wired to be selfish and protect their own genetic heritage. Adopt a special needs child and stop going on and on about shelter cats, and I will respect you more.
Tattoo a cat?..Lady, you are sick.
I hope you are not referring to me. I would not purchase/adopt a Sphynx, and I certainly wouldn’t tattoo it. The sick people are those who think this is the end of the world. Sorry, but think about the fact that the Armenians were almost wiped out by the Turks, and the fact that the Germans almost completely destroyed a complex and highly developed Jewish culture in Poland, aside from their murders (estimated at 40%) of “gypsies,” homosexuals, Catholic priests, and the “mentally incompentent.” The Nazis inherited eugenic arguments from the U.S. The U.S. has had its own history of sterilizing people who were suffering from various mental and physical diseases, and to be frank, most of these people who were incarcerated or sterilized (in the U.S.) or murdered (in mid 20th century Europe) did not pose a social threat.
Sorry, my fingers were faster than my mind. Make that “Catholic priests, and the ‘mentally incompentent’ was WORSE.” I am strongly for animal rights, but I don’t hold them above human rights. Tattooing a kitty is NOT equal to the genocide of people, whether they be Armenians, Polish Jews, American Indians…I am of no particular “breed” myself, but have little patience for people who feel that campaigning for animal rights means that they don’t have to think about humans. Hitler was a vegetarian, they say.

To Thinking realistic and rational thoughts,
I’m pretty sure responding to you is a waste of time, but what the heck! Of course people are responding out of emotions. People aren’t writing an essay, a report, a news article. It’s a place to voice your opintion. I’m sure there are some of us that will be starting petitions against it and then we’ll include the the facts with the emtions.
How can you say giving an animal a tattoo isn’t animal cruelity? You said you had to declaw your cat which means I assume you had to sign a concent form for the procedure to be done, so therefore you should know there is a risk of complications and death while being under for surgery. So if you are all about rational thinking, then wouldn’t it be rational to think it’s not the brightest idea to put your pet under when his or her life isn’t in danger. And would you really want someone to drug your drink, take you toa operation room, put a tattoo on you without your permission, and have the person tell you he or she didn’t do anything wrong because you wer asleep during the procedure and they gave you pain killers afterwords?
Speaking of pain killers, there are also risks with taking them just like with pretty much with any and every medication. You can just read the pamplets that come with them. This cat wouldn’t have been in any pain if it never got the tattoo. So tell me, how are you yourself thinking rationally? And for the record I know where Russia is and I know some of its history. However, I don’t care if this happened in the USA, Australia, Egypt, China, Germany, France, Italy, Pakistan, Brazil, or Kenya, something like that just shouldn’t be done. Just because the world have culture differences doesn’t mean we shouldn’t respect the living. No matter what you believe in you should know that every living thing, even the annoying flea contributes to this world surving. I would provide you with proof, but I don’t have the time to write a whole essay about it. The only reason I’m not against humans choosing to get plastic surgery (Hence the word CHOOSING) or tattoos is because we know exactally what we are telling each other and in most countries when someone chooses to go through plastic surgery they are given the detail risks. We can’t do that with pets, so therefore it shouldn’t be done.
Finally, people can help pass a law where animals aren’t allowed to get a tattoo like that by signing petitions in those countries where its legal to do so. It may not happen anytime soon, but in due time the right people will finally listen. Sadly, the people who tried to stop it may not live to see it happen, but it has to start somewhere.
Thinking rational thoughts–
You’re the type that would want to see ‘good hard evidence’ that the Holocaust actually happened, huh? Sometimes it is good to respond out of pure emotion, it’s what drives us to do the right thing
First of all does this fall under abuse of animals. Did this harm the cat in any way. Why a tattoo? What was these owners thinking. Wrong, wrong, wrong!!!!!! Call it what you like, I personally think it is abuse, any way you look at it.
That woman’s face should be tattooed with “IDIOT ABUSER”, in every language, on it. What a mean, cruel, and rotten thing to do to a poor animal!
Though I think it looks pretty cool because I have seen the Kin Tut’s exhibit twice and my dog’s name is King Tut, tattoos should be an individual’s choice and since animals cannot speak for themselves, I don’t think that should be done to them. Those hairless cats are prone to skin problems anyway. Why risk something like that? I just took my cat in to have her neutered and I feel like a heel that she has to go through that. Sometimes, it is just better to use some common sense.
And to Frank who says all people who own cats are demon worshipers-you need some serious medication!
Absolutely disgusting. The woman is a complete moron and the cat should be taken away from her
Tattoos für Katzen?? Was kommt als nächstes Piercings für Hunde??
So was fällt meines Erachtens unter Tierquälerei!!
This is awful and an outrage!!!! Who in their right mind would think that doing this is ok??! This is cruel and completely unnecessary. You know what’s really truly sad about this? When the fad is over there will be hundreds, if not thousands, of tattooed Sphynx cats sent to shelters or anesthetized because they are no longer cool, which breaks my heart.
I think this is just wrong!
We got an email on this & when we clicked the link to read the whole story guess what google ad came up above the story – an ad for the local tattoo shop where Mommy got her tattoos! What are the people at google thinking?! fortunately the nice lady at the shop is an animal lover too & she would never do this to a pet as it would not be nice & also not sanitary to allow animals in a tattoo parlor. Lots of humans are severely allergic to cat dander – mommy gives benadryl to some of her human friends when they visit us – but it is actually not allowed to bring animals into most tattoo shops because of health regulations on tattoo shops. Unfortunately lots of “free-lance” artists would not be regulated in this way. Of course this story happened in Russia where the law is probably different. No legit tattoo artist in this country would risk their license over such a stupid thing. There are plenty of humans with cash waiting for an appointment.
stupid asses
NO! NO! NO! if the cat asks for a tatoo in english, russian or what ever language then get it a tatoo by all means. Otherwise it is cruel! cruel! cruel!!!!!! (all cats speak cat!!!!! HUMAN’S DO NOT!)
That’s insane to put your baby under just to get tattooed. That is risking its life. What kind of jerk does that. Want atat get it on yourself NOT your cat!!!!!!!!!!
Why would anyone do that to a cat. Why not put the tatto on their own human chest.
This was a stupid, cruel and nasty thing to do to an innocent cat.
Why not take the all of that money you spent having this poor tattooed and donate it to an animal shelter.
I honestly think the owner needs to be charged with animal cruelty, and abuse, maybe that will stop others from doing the same stupid thing.
Why not take the money you are spending on your cat’s tattoo and use it to help homeless animals or shelter pets in your area! Waste of money!
Personally we don’t “own” cats….. they own us
Tattoos are a work of art and should be on humans not animals. As I’ve read through much of the postings, it is easy to see where most folks stand on this subject. My cats are my love and in fact having them with me gives me great pleasure…. and hopefully them too. I don’t truly think the owner thought they were being cruel or abusive with their pet….. I just believe they were NOT thinking.
That makes me sick. The cat doesn’t care that it has a tat, only the owner. I’m willing to bet the cat did not give permission for the tat, and since that is probably the case, it makes it cruelty!!!!!!
Its quite clear to me it is using a living thing to make either a monetary statement or a fashion statement, both of which are sick since it involves the use of a living being, of which we are the guardians, not the owners.
This kind of tattooing is sick. It doesn’t do the cat any good. And like it had been said, it’s just for the owner to say, “hey, my cat has a tattoo.” Even if the cat was put out when it woke up it was in pain. Just hope he did not get an infection. Sorry, but I actually think it’s kind of sick to see a human covered with tattos too. I just know what my eyes like to see, and it’s definitely not a tatto on a cat.
What about the after care and pain? Did this poor Kitty ask for this?
Definitely done for the owner, not the cat. I don’t care how cool she thought it was, that was just cruel. I’m guessing she even thinks she did it out of love. Unbelievable..
This is disgusting and abusive.
My argument on this is very simple. An animal has no choice in this madness. I feel it is so wrong on so many levels to subject an animal to something this ludicrous. We have no idea of the complications or infections involved in the process after such a procedure for these animals. If there is pain involved in a procedure you’re going to have done to your pet, you better think long and hard about the necessity of it. Vanity is not a necessity.
That’s sick and they should be arrested for animal cruelty
I think it is cruel, why someone would do something like that, I have no Idea, but I hope she/he figures out the error and never does anything like that again
This is so stupid. If the owner likes tattoos, let him/her get one. Animals do not have a choice. If they did I am sure they would not want one. Why put an animal through pain and distress? I love my cats too much to cause them UNNECESSARY pain & discomfort. It sounds like these owners have more money than sense. Use that money to help sick, neglected, or abused animals.
I do not agree with tattooing of cats! I love cats and I love tattoos…..but they do not go together. They are not able to speak to say they do not want one! How sad….poor kitties! I hope this can be banned and be considered animal cruelty!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I can make my own choices and I would love to have a tattoo. But the cat can not make the choice. I think it was very wrong of the owner to think it is alright to do this to her cat. What was a Vet thinking when s/he anesthetized the cat for this purpose?!?! Totally unacceptable as far as I’m concerned!
WRONG and CRUEL
I am so sad to see this, besides all the craziness on this world , now we have this stupid people hurting their own cats and calling it”art” a tatto is not an art its disgusting
That is sick!
Terrible. Anesthesia is dangerous and undergoing for purely asthetic resons for yourself is fine, I don’t really care what people do to themselves but putting an animal through it because it is yours and you have the right is simply selfish. But most people dont know better I just hope they don’t have children to abuse…
Thats photoshop and not for real.
Look cloesly to the picture, escpecially the first one.
A tatoo isnt that perfect, and the color isnt matching the scin near the neck. The color should be “broken” if it was for real.
This is just another bonsai-kitten.
It looks cool, you have to admit, but it is a TERRIBLE thing to do! It’s inhumane! It should be illegal to do such a thing to an animal! I think that counts as animal cruelty!
This is one the dumbest things I have seen…the person or people responsible should be charged with cruelty to animals! Including the person doing the tattoo!!! idots…
That is just cruell
I FEEL THIS IS A VERY WRONG THING TO DO…
THERE IS MORE TO BEING RESPONSIBLE TO A PET THAN JUST FEEDING AND LOVING….
RESPECT…!!
Wow what a buch of whiners. I’d rather be put under and wake up with a tattoo, opposed to say having my balls cut off. Cat will be fine in a few days, massive overreaction in my opinion.
What a horribly sickening thing to do! This is definitely animal cruelty, and should be outlawed.
If people want to tattoo something, they can tattoo their OWN bodies, not those of innocent animals who are in their care. They obviously don’t care about the safety or comfort of their animals.
NO, NO, NO!!!!!! IT IS CRUEL!!!
this is the coolest damn thing i have ever seen in my life i cant wait to get my kitty tattooed. and so what if it hurts it wont hurt forever and then you have this cat with a badass tattoo so yeah!!!!!!!!! have funn thinkin this is cruel
No way! Cats don’t need tats. It’s cruel. They are beautiful without anything. this would start some real bad stuff.
Are you serious???? I am a cat owner myself. I worked for a vet for many years and can understand the ID tattoos being done before they had microchipping and all but come on now!! Although the tattoo is beautifully done……put it on the human, not the cat!! This is such a beautiful breed and I am sure the cat didn’t wake up one day and tell its owner “hey let’s go, I want to pick out a tattoo. I think it would be real cool.” I really don’t understand what the heck goes through some people’s minds sometimes. What next…..piercings on the ears, tongue or maybe the nipples? I don’t care where you are from in this world…..this is just WRONG if you ask me!!!! I’m just saying………..
For humans Its ok , they are getting it because they want one and are not asleep during it. But with cats they don’t know what is going on and there is a risk every time you use anesthesia on a animal anyway. I cant believe what people will do to their pets any more, just let them live their life.
I cannot imagine how the owner can do such a cruel thing to their beloved pet. my blood is boilng and i am really sad to read the article, as the poor cat can’t reject it loudly and vehemently to the owner. Please be kind to and respect the animals as we are all beings living in this world
People are up in arms about this tattoo, but dogs get ears and tails docked all the time for purely cosmetic reasons. These procedures often require anesthesia and are quite painful. Sometimes these things are done without anesthesia. How is tattooing a cat different from these other socially accepted cosmetic procedures?
I will say that I do not agree with ear and tail docking, but no one calls it abuse. I don’t agree with cat-tatts, but I also would not call someone who did it an abuser. Lets have a reality check before someone bursts a blood vessel.
For that matter, no one thinks its abusive to breed cats with defective genes for purely cosmetic reasons? That’s what’s really sick. Reality check #2. Cats aren’t supposed to be naked in the first place.
Both the owners of the cat and the tattoo artist should be fined and imprisioned for animal cruelty.
This is not ok! This poor cat had no choice, humans have a choice to go through the pain. But sadly, a human chose for its cat to go through the pain. The poor cat was probably in so much pain. How can the owner do that?
This is not ok! It very much detracts from the beauty of the creature. Too bad that it cannot be removed.
absolutely disgusting the people who did this should be put in jail for animal cruelty
This doesn’t warrant a debate!! This warrants saying it like it is…What a complete jackass that ‘owner’ is!!! Owning a pet should be loving it; not torturing it..if the owner is so into Egyptian paraphernalia..why doesn’t she tatoo a sphynx on her face or her own chest and see how much pain it causes..I have no use for people such as that..the SPCA should step in..that is totally cruelty for the vanity of some stupid, brainless person!! Stupid idiot.
I think whoever subjects their beloved pet to this kind of pain is a cruel and mean person. There is a reason these animals are bred this way and to tattoo them is not the reason. PLEASE STOP!!!!!!! I the cat was to have designs on their skin their skin would be marked naturally with a different skin tone.
this is distgusting I can’t believe some people…I myself have prominent tattoos but they were MY CHOICE!!!This poor animal needs to be whisked away so that it doesn’t need to live for it’s owner’s vanity…how tasteless…poor cat…
This is very cruel to the animal. Its only for the joy of the person who is hateful enough to subject their loyal, loving cat to this torture. Its one thing to put it on your own body, but you should not subject your animal to the hurt even if it is asleep. DID THE CAT ASK FOR IT? I think not. Shame on those who have done this.
I think the cat should be removed from his owner’s home and placed either in an animal rescue facility or a better home. If possible, I also think the tattoo should be removed, if it will not cause harm or further pain to the cat. The tattoo artist and the owner should both be jailed permanently and the owner’s right to own an animal taken away and the tattoo artist’s license should be permanently revoked.
OMG WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE???? This is so disgusting and totally inhumane… The tatto is painful even after waking up from anesthesia for Christ sake!!! These kind of people need their head examined!! What a disgrace!!
Animal abuse is what this is plain and simple! This is wrong on so many levels.
wow thats is so sweet
Reguardless of what these people are doing or have done, unless the cat is missing all of its legs and its head is hanging off its neckhole, i dont think its any of your businesses to say whether its right or its wrong, its not your cat, and these cats looks just as normal as a hairy, healthy, untattooed cat would, if it were in a public setting or in a vets office. i think MOST of you, and check it out i said MOST not ALL, are only saying these things because other people are saying them. This entire article is biased, and unless you look into exactly why these people have given their cats tattoos, and look into exactly how these procedures were done, not just an average but every last one of them, then honestly i dont think you can say jack about it without looking ignorant to me. now im sure the lot of you are going to have some snotty comment to reply to me with, or perhaps some choice profanity, so just to set the record straight im not getting into it with any of you and im not going to listen to anything you have to say to me, this is my opinion. and if it were MY cat, i would have it tattooed because material objects can wear out, and not everybody expresses themselves or the love of their pet the same. im certain some do it for selfish reasons, but i doubt that all of them do. <3
People Spay or neuter their cats according to there own will. A cat doesnt simply decide it does or doesnt want to have babies; There owners make that decision. The healing process of that is more painful and invasive than that of the healing process of a tattoo. The most painful part of a tattoo is the procedure of getting one, not the healing process, and if there sedated for it then there missing the most painful part. Im not saying for or against this but an owner makes the decisions for everything else about there pet so why should this be any different. This also goes for declawing, people who own cats that have them declawed dont realize that it is destroying there naturally needed toe muscles to grip and walk, but again people do it to save the vanity of there couches and arm chairs, SO I DONT GET THE ARGUMENT HERE!!! WE ALREADY DO ALL SORTS OF THINGS TO OUR CATS FOR OUR OWN VANITY AND CONCERNS.
Disguisting
Shame on the cat owner and the Tattoo artist. Like the comparison of tattooing your child, sad and pathetic
Seeing this story inspired this video about cat tattoo artists at Catastrophe Ink:
this is fucking sick……cats cant tell u if they want tattoos un like us, i want to know what gives u the motivation to get ur cat tattooed its so sick this should be banned its animal cruelty. any one out there who thinks its ok to tattoo animals should be shot in the head u sick fucks…..
SQUIGGLY if u dont give a shit bout this then u shouldnt comment u r just a sick fuck as the ppl who think its ok to tattoo there cats and as for the other ppl who get there cats spayed its not cause the cats cant tell u they want babies its cause there is not enough ppl out there who know how to look after them ppl do that for there own interest so there babies dont get neglected dont be so fucking stupid u fucking sick fuck u should be banned from having animals u make me so mad u fucking sick twats
I’ll bet this cat is more loved and pampered than most peoples pets. This is less painful and cruel than most of the surguries we do to our animals for our own benifit (neuter, spay, declawing, shortening of tails, clipping ears, debudding goats, ect.). Also this may give the cat more value, if the owner ever needs to rehome it, I would adopt a cat with a tatoo. People just loooove to pass judgement on others. I think this was done out of love for the cat, not cruelty.
Sorry everyone but I think this is totally awesome. If my cat was hairless I’d tattoo it too!
This is awesome. I cant wait till I can afford a Sphinx Hairless. Once it’s like two years old and its skin is tight, I gonna get my picture and name put on it for it’s ID. I’ve always thought this was such a cool idea. Doesn’t hurt em at all, getting fixed hurts like hell to a cat. Im gonna go and dye my cats hair pink and purple right now. And to all who think this is wrong, join animal control or the SPCA and rescue animals like I do, then you can have a say in the matter.
Anyone who would do this deserves to be punched in the throat and pissed on while they writhe and gasp for breath.
And I’ll be glad to do it.
This woman needs a bullet in the head.
it’s just a tattoo I would do it if given the option it is art and i like it.
This is just terrible. Poor cat.
