As you read yesterday, Skeezix, Jeff (Mr Tasty Face) and I attended Guido the Italian Kitty’s Meow Mix Pawty to watch Guido on Meow Mix’s “Think Like a Cat” show on the Game Show Network. Despite the fact that Guido didn’t win (he was robbed!), a good time was had by all, and Catster and Dogster were well represented by Anders Porter (who writes the Snuzzy blog), Ted Rheingold (Catster’s Top Cat) and Mark Rogers (who hosts the weekly caption contest on Dogster’s “For the Love of Dog” blog).
Big kudos go to hostess Judi, who opened her home and her heart to us. For more on Guido, you can subscribe to the Guido Gazette (”Start your day the Guido way!”), or check out his Catster profile.
The crowd gathers around the TV to watch the show.

Hey evrybuddy, Skeezix heer. I’m blogging live frum Guido’s house, and we’re abowt to watch to see if he wins $1 million! Pikcherd above, Snuzzy is helping Guido put on his tie, and the next foto is da grate Ted Rheingold, Mr TF and Snuzzy with Guido. Stay tooned!!!! |
6:30pm | Are yoo watchin’? It’s vary exciting. Guido’s mom is reegaling us with lots of backstage gossip. She says that Chuck Woolery is the nicest guy EVER and he’s the dad to a cupple of pugs.
6:37pm | Oh krap. Guido didn’t make it out of rownd one, wich was a reely lame-o game. So we’re rooting for Abby, hoo’s mom was reely kyoot. A reputable source tells us that the lady frum Portland had lots of tatts all the way down her arms, so they made her ware a stagehand’s jakkit to cover them up. The stagehand’s jakkit was NOT kyoot and the lady frum Portland didn’t like it.
6:45pm | Abby got eliminayted, but she wins $15,000. We’re not ixzaktly pikking the winners tonite!
Guido’s mom sez that nobuddy on the produkshun teem had a cat. Can yoo beeleeve that? Now the vegan guy frum Florida is compeeting for the $1 million.
6:48pm | Grrreta, I shode DGTR yer “super hero hare” comment. He was laffin an laffin.
6:56pm | Well, the vegan guy frum Florida didn’t win the million buks. Maybe next yeer one of us guys can win!!!
7:04pm | Now we’re gonna eet Eye-tall-yun food!!!!
8:49pm | Wow, I’m full of cannoleez and stuff. I had a good vizit with da grate Ted Rheingold (Catster’s Top Cat), Snuzzy, and cellebrity foDOGraffer Mark Rogers (with hoom I did a foto shoot with earlier this week). We all agreed that Guido was robbed! Guido was VARY ixsited that owr grate Catster frend Toulouse even upgraded his cable pakije so he cood watch Guido on TV. Thanks, Toulouse!!!
A speshul big thanks and lots of sandpaper kisses to Guido’s Mom, hoo is DA BEST! She kindly invited all us Catsters into her home and gave us unlimited access to Guido. She was vary upbeet even tho she didn’t win the million buks. She sed it was a fab expeerience, and she made lots of new frends with the other contestunts, and staying at the Hotel Palomar and gitting limo-ed arownd and being on TV was the Cat’s Meow.

Hey evrybuddy, Skeezix heer. I am SO EXCITED abowt the upcoming weekend that I’m afrade I mite wet my pants. My best frend Guido the Italian Kitty will be appeering on TV tomorrow on Meow Mix’s Think Like a Cat show, airing on the Game Show Network at 9:30pm EST (chek yer local listings for the time near yoo). Guido mite win a million dollars! And I’ve bin invited to attend the preemeer at Guido’s house! If yer not lucky enuf to be a member of Guido’s inner circle, yoo can meet him on Saturday afternoon at Sak’s Fifth Avenue in San Fransisco. He’ll be in the cozmetiks department frum 11am – 1 pm, ware a portion of all cozmetiks sales that day will be donated to Pets Unlimited. Guido took a few minits frum his pawty preparations to talk to me abowt the upcoming festivities.
Skeezix: Are you excited about Saturday’s premeer, or is it just another day at the office for you?
Guido: Excited? Catzowey I’m ecstaticat! My meowster self rarely has a normal day but this Hollywood extravocatoganza experience is truly the cat’s meow! Not sure if my smitten kitten self will ever get back to normal life in my 9 lives.
Skeezix: How hard has it been to keep seekrit who won Meow Mix’s Think Like a Cat Contest?
Guido: The sponsor has me and my paws under contract so no way I can let the cat out of the bag, and sure it’s been challenging cuz furiends and fans have tried to bribe the Italian kitty – whatsa they thinka that Guido isa with a da meowster mafia anda needsa gooda bribe? One lady offered me a lifetime supply of imported vintage catnip if I’d just tell her if I won the catzillion dollars.
Skeezix: What was it like on the set with the other contestants? Was it dog-eat-dog backstage, or did you become frends?
Guido: We Catestants are planning a reunion next year in the Catskills to kick back and CATch up. Some catestants had never been out of their home or in front of big cameras – you know all things I’m naturacatically accustomed to. I bonded the best with the LA meowster Mr Guffington and we chalked it up to our being cool California Catsters and the only state with 2 Catestants. Basta pasta! There were some increducatulous hiss fits and flying fur when filming overtime and missing our catnaps. We’re creatures of habit and didn’t get much lounge time in our purrivate dressing rooms but ya know, that $1 million grand purrize doesn’t come easy. I had a hiss fit of my own when my pesto procciuto pizza was late cuz room service guy got cornered in the hotel hallway by an Italian greyhound wanting the pizza! (Hotel Palomar is pet friendly)
Skeezix: I know you’ve been bizzy preparing fur your premeer pawty, and I’m honored to have been invited. Is it going to be a lavish Hollywood-style affare or Italian famly-style fun?
Guido: The Hollywood purrmier is Wednesday in La La Land and Saturday is my purrivate party –so I’m jetting around. I didn’t want to shop till I drop, so went directicatically to the Giorgio Armanicat shop for a new tie and have my Salvatore Ferralcatgamo star studded Italian shades. Definicatically speaking, it’s family style Italian fun with food food and more food. Momma’s prepurring my favorite pastas and catnollis for the molto amici – I think we’re catting around with 50 that night, all purrsons who make me purr. People from The ARC where I do my animal assisted therapy, folks from Pets Unlimited, Catsters and friends and you Skeezix – hey are you wearing a tux?
Skeezix: I haven’t deesided yet. But sinse I’ll be werking — the Cat’s Meow will be blogging live frum the event — I mite ware my Catster werk uniform. Anyway, rumor has it, Guido, that yoo’ll be meeting and greeting the public at Sak’s Fifth Avenue in San Fransisco on Saturday. Tell me a little about that.
Guido: Can you imagine me in the Cosmewtics Dept? Yep I’m going to be meeting and greeting the public while PURRmoting the TV show at Saks on Union Square. Just look for me and my paws in the Cosmetics department and bring along your MasterCat Card cuz anything you purchase will help the animals at Pets Unlimited cuz Saks is donating a portion of the sales that day to this great animal org who is my Meow Mix Think Like A Cat partner. Remember if I win the $1 million they get $100,000 and that is a lot of happy felines and pupsters.
Skeezix: If you do happen to be the millyun dollar winner in the Think Like a Cat Contest, what’s the first thing you’re gonna do with the munney?
Guido: Call my architect and give him the Guido 4 Paws go ahead to design me a customized Ferrari 2-seater litter box in Italian red.
Skeezix: Any plans to CATapult from your Think Like a Cat appeerance to major movie roles?
Guido: You mean like Guido Bond or Johnny Cat Depp stuff? Nope, my green eyes are set on seeing Guido The Italian Kitty as a children’s Saturday morning TV cartoon. I still have my day job in Animal Assisted Therapy at The ARC – even when I win an Acatamy Award, I’ll still be going to work at The ARC.

Hey evrybuddy, Skeezix heer. A vary speshul Catster frend and role model of mine, Guido the Italian Kitty, needs a talent agent and we can help make that dreem come true for him if we act fast.
Guido puts the “OH!” in Overachiever. At the tender age of two he’s alreddy been a Catster Cat of the Day, has a job with Animals As Therapy, he’s bin on TeeVee and gotten scritched by game show god, Chuck Woolery, he’s done a foto shoot with werld famous foDOGgraffer Mark Rogers, and he publishes his own newsletter. Phew! AND, he mite alreddy be a millionaire! I think I’m gonna let him pick up the tab.
Sinse Guido lives in San Fransisko, I met him at a North Beech kaffay ware we enjoyed a cupple of catpuchinos, sum Campari, and a catnip cigar or two.
Skeezix: With a name like Guido, do you live in North Beach?
Guido: Nope, but I can see North Beach from my Nob Hill view.
Skeezix: Were you named after Father Guido Sarducci?
Guido: No, il mio amico, I was named Guido after my great Grandfather who immigrated from Italia.
Skeezix: You were honored as Catster’s Cat of the Day on July 7th, 2008. How did that change your life?
Guido: Well, I awakened to 219 emails and had a kitty cardio tack! Being COTD gave me new meowster friends and they’re absoluticatilly meowvalous!
Skeezix: You were adopted at Maddie’s Pet Adoption Center, which is run by the SFSPCA. From the photos, it looks like every room is like a room at the Ritz: very posh! Did you hate to leave?
Guido: They’re fantasticat folks at Maddie’s and the kitty condos rock with aquariums and TVs, but I was ecstaticat to find a new home. I’d had 3 homes in 61 short days – a rocky start for the Italian Kitty, and when I found my Momma at Maddie’s, well it was a molto bene moment!
Skeezix: You werk in an Animal Assisted Therapy program. Tell me a little about how you got involved in that and what you do. Any advice for cats interested in getting involved in AAT?
Guido: My Momma tossed me in her bag one day to visit an elderly lady who was not too healthy – I seemed to perk her up so Momma inquired to SF SPCA and they have a cool program for AAT that visits 30,000 people a year. I love my job and I go every other week to visit persons with Down’s Syndrome – hey they’re just like us but just not as agile. They make me purr. I had to go thru some tests (incredicatically, they stretched me out and brushed my hair the wrong way and did little pokes here and there) to be sure I was a comfy kitty around people in public — I passed 4 paws up -– hey, I’m Italian what did they expect! You can make a difference in a human’s life too, so check to see if your local humane society or hospital has a program for visiting animals.
Skeezix: On your Catster profile, there’s a foto of you with a ginny pig. Tell me a little about that. Is he yer ginny pig, or just a frend?
Guido: He lives in another City. That’s Stanley who is in Animal Assisted Therapy, too, but they don’t make a “Certified AAT Animal” vest that will fit him like mine does (I can even ride the bus for free in my vest!). He and I created quite a stir at an AAT event – people furget therapy work just isn’t for the doggone great canines!
Skeezix: You also publish the Guido Gazette that goes out evry Monday. How long have you done that, and how wood interested cats sine up?
Guido: My paws have been pounding out The Guido Gazette for 2 years faithfurly every week and I’ve never catnapped thru a deadline yet! It goes all around the meowvalous world every Monday and it’s a great way to start your day the Guido way. Subscribe your paws here. It’s PURRivate and we PURRtect your privacy well.
Skeezix: What is it like to be fotograffed by the famous dog and cat foDOGgraffer, Mark Rogers? I think I wood freeze up when he pointed the camera at me, cuz it wood be like an Annie Lebowitz Vanity Fair foto shoot! Were you nervous?
Guido: It’s good to be best buddies with your PURRfessional photographer and Mark Rogers is a catzowey guy! His camera lens is about as long as me. I’m not nervous when we do photo shoots cuz Mark talks cat chat to me. My whiskers never wiggle when working with him as he keeps me calm – and being Italian that’s not easy to do!
Skeezix: If I wanted to Start My Day the Guido Way, what wood I do?
Guido: Do some aerobicat exercises and lap up a Catpuccino with extra heavy crème!
Skeezix: Recently, you were one of eight contestants on Meow Mix’s new game show “Think Like a Cat” and akshully got to meet game show legend, Chuck Woolery. I know we have to wait until the show airs to see wether you won or not, but could you give us some insites as to what it was like? Did you get to hang out with Chuck Woolery in the green room? What network will the show air on?
Guido: HEY SKEEZIX! You can be the first one to do the announce this to the world! I’ve not talked about it on the Guido Gazette yet! Here’s the straight poop – it’s Meow Mix’s “Think Like a Cat” show and it airs on November 15th on the Game Show Network (GSN).
I was one of 8 Catestants (me and my Momma too) were flown to Hollywood and we cannot let the cat out of the bag as to if we are the Cazillionaire winners of the $1 million. But I can tell you a highlight was having Chuck Woolery -– all 6’2” of him, come into my purrivate dressing room and interview me while I was catnapping on the bench in my Hollywood styled shower! Chuck was meowvalous, he’s a dog dad and kept complimenting me on my handsome self -– now that made my whiskers wiggle! Green Room?? No way -– that’s for amateurs! We all had our very own PURRivate dressing rooms -– with litter boxes, food (Meow Mix of course), and momma had brought my favorite Italian Flag blankie so I felt at home. Chuck wanted to stay all day and play but he had to get going -– he’s a fantasticat guy and we seemed to bond –- you know, 2 handsome dudes!
Every day we got limo’d to the TV studios and had to report our paws bright and early as there’s a lot of work that goes into a game show. I’d usually have my breakfast at the Studio in my dressing room…PURRivate dining and gave me a chance to get revved up to play the game and win the $1 million!!
Skeezix: Wow! What a glamorous life you leed! Currently, yer in the Star Pet 2008 Contest to get yerself a talent agent. How’s that going?
Guido: There is another cat trying to catch my tail and the contest only goes till Oct 13th so I’d like to put that cat into his litter box!
Skeezix: When do you have time to nap?
Guido: Nap? What’s that? A good catnip pizza gives me gusto and fuels me for the day.
Skeezix: Well it’s been grate spending this sunny afternoon with you, Guido! Good luk with gitting a talent agent!
