Sully Sullenberger — Heroic Cat Guy
Karen Nichols

Everyone knows about Capt. “Sully” Sullenberger’s cool headedness and quick thinking that saved the lives of 155 passengers on the US Airways flight that landed in the Hudson in January. But did you know that he’s also a Cat Guy and the hero to homeless cats in his Northern California community?

Sullenberger is a cat lover who has fostered scores of kittens over the years for Tony LaRussa’s Animal Rescue Foundation (ARF).

“Sully’s the cat person. I’m the dog person,” his wife Lorrie told PEOPLE Magazine in a recent interview.

Lorrie and Sully care for the kittens until they can be neutered or spayed for adoption. Like many who foster, they ended up adopting one of their charges, the 2-year-old calico, Kitty (right).

“(Sully) loves that cat,” says Lorrie. β€œHe has a special affinity for that cat. He desperately wants her to be a lap-cat. Since the accident, she’s actually been leaning up against him.”

    Dear Captain Sullenberger,
To hear that you’re a cat lover, doesn’t surprise me in the least. You have a heart of gold, & a soul to match. :) Knowing that you don’t feel comfortable being thought of as a ‘Hero’, (although you definitely are), I’ll describe you as an Angel among us. Besides your being a hero, that’s how I see you, so I feel it is a most fitting description of you.Be assured that we take pride in knowing that you have and are making a difference in the lives of others, both human and critters. :) In leading by example, that you are exemplary proof of all that is right in this world. Keep smiling and keep reaching for higher ground.

    Smiley Face :)

Why are we not surprised? He is clearly a man with a great soul, where “resue” and “saving lives” have been is modus operandi for so many years! If anything could have made him even more of a hero, it would be to hear about his good works and commitment to saving cats lives!!

REAL men LOVE cats. My father did. My ex’s all have. And I’d never date a man who doesn’t love cats. He is definitely a cat hero and a great person!

What a wonderful man! As someone said already an Angel among us for sure! I hope he gets his wish and his
adorable kitty turns into a lap cat one day! Mom knows
how he feels.I am her first true lap cat. (She can’t sit without me hopping on board.)

It is not at all surprising that America’s hero is also a cat person. One of the best ways to judge character is how our humans react to cats.

Just when Meowmie was getting really tired of hearing about this dude cos it’s like a big deal here cos he’s a Californian, not only does he like kitties but he supports ARF. Meowmie’s an Oakland A’s fan so supporting LaRussa is a no brainer.
