Searching for a Green Alternative to Clay Litters?
Karen Nichols

Purina is offering $3 off its enviro-friendly litter product, “Yesterday’s News,” a litter made from recycled newspapers. There are three formulations for cats, buns and ferrets, and an additional “softer texture” version.

If the approach of Earth Day has raised your awareness of your cat’s impact on the environment, Purina would like to provide you with an added incentive to switch from clay-based litters (produced through strip-mining) to Yesterday’s News: they’ll give you a coupon for $3 off any variety, 13.2 lbs or larger. Click here to request your coupon.

Tomorrow we’ll be celebrating Earth Day here at The Cat’s Meow by describing the top ten things you can do to ensure your cat’s carbon footprint is as small as possible.

We have just started trying “The World’s Best Cat Litter” this week. It’s made from corn! So far, we like it. It’s biodegradable and safe for the environment.

The cats at the shelter used to use Yesterday’s News and they liked it! Now they use a generic version of Feline Pine.

We use a corn cob litter and it clumps better than the wheat litter. It tracks all over the place though. We sure don’t miss clay litter and silica was a disaster!

We use Fresh Step, not green, we know. Mom recently tried this eco friendly litter called ‘Swheat Scoop’, its a natural, flushable, wheat litter. Mom and dad couldnt handle the smell when scooping, so back to fresh stop we went. We like it. But where mom works, at a vet, they have used Yesterdays News for years, its not new, but it does work pretty well. its just not good for burying what needs to be buried… They give it to kitties who have been declawed, so that the small clay pieces dont hurt their boo boo toes.
