Sammy the Cat Gets His Own P.O. Box
Sammy, a gorgeous orange tabby (who looks a little like our friend Calvin), was recently evicted from his home in the Notasulga, Alabama Post Office because an anonymous customer wrote to complain, saying that since Sammy doesn’t pay taxes, he shouldn’t be permitted in a federal building (a specious argument if ever there was one). Sammy never even bothered anyone — he spent most of his days catnapping in a window or on a table. Notasulga is a sleepy little southern town that boasts a population of just over 900 people — just the sort of place where you’d expect to find a post office cat like Sammy.
Fortunately, legendary Auburn Alabama football coach Pat Dye led a group of residents to protest Sammy’s eviction. One of Sammy’s supporters rented a post office box in his name so that Sammy has a right to be in the building. Subsequently, postal officials removed the sign banning him from the premises. Here’s my call to action: write to Sammy expressing your support!
What a meanie that “anonymous” person was! Do we know if Sammy was allowed back inside yet? The video makes it sound like he’s not just yet.

I read something yesterday that he will be allowed inside but kept out of the public eye. Something else said yes he would be allowed inside but they were trying to keep him outside as much as possible. Poor guy. At least he has a whole town supporting him.

Oh, Sammy is very handsome but not quite as handsome as Calvin.
Sammy may not pay taxes but I bet he helps keep the taxes down by providing rodent control. Now what taxpayer can claim that?

My 4 paws are UP for Sammy! He’s got far more purrsonality than any postal worker here in CalEYEfurKneeyah and they should put him on the payroll as an official greeter!.

wait, because he doesn’t pay taxes he’s not allowed inside? Soooo, disabled people are not allowed inside either? or senior citizens on social security who get all of their tax money back? we think that “anonymous” cat hater needs to think before she speaks.
Mom just wrote down Sammy’s address and we are sending him a card this weekend. We are furry upset by this!
Sammy is very handsome and we hope he gets back into the Post Office!! We just don’t understand mean spirited people. They just must have nothing better to do!! Go Sammy GO!!

I love cats in shops.. there’s an orangie I see in a frame shop in Brighton (UK).. he sometimes sits in the window surrounded by artwork, and looks very pretty too.
