Product Review: The FURminator®
Skeezix the Cat

Hey, evrybody, Skeezix heer! Today I’m gonna review a grate grooming product on the market called The FURminator®.

I don’t have many furs, but the cats I live with do. Rocky the Geezer Cat often wakes up the Food Lady with the sownd that NOBUDDY wants to heer at 6 am: bwah …. bwah …. bwah …. bwaaaaaahhhh! It’s disgusting.

We’ve tride other fur-remooval tools, but the FURminator is the only one that has reely done the trik. Rocky loves it, and you wood not believe the amount of furs it remooves! Heer’s whut we got off of Rocky (left) and Mao (rite):

Fur frum the FURminator

That’s enuf furs for a squillion hareballs!

You have to be careful with it cuz it can scrape the skin if you furminate too hard. Rocky, like many cats, is hypersensitive on his back. So tell yer person to take it easy, and stop when yoo’ve had enuf. Both Mao and Rocky purr and purr win they have it done, cuz it’s kinda like going to the spa, and they love all the attenshun.

You probly alreddy know that grooming has long been touted as an exsellent way for people to bond with thare cats, providing an oppertoonity to look for lumps and tiks and sensitive spots, so that helth problems can be identified wile they are still easily treatable. And, grooming is the best defense against hareballs. With the FURminator, you’ll say, “Hasta la veesta, hareballs!”

FURminator

Seeriusly, folks, hareballs are no laffing matter. Aside frum making yer lady skreem when she steps on them barefoot on the way to her litter box in the morning, they can cause a total intestinal blockage, wich can be life-threatening. You can find owt more about hareballs from Dr Eric Barchas, on Catster’s Vetblog.

Now, you may be wundering what to do with those mountains of fur you end up with after furminating. Glad you asked! I use them for a pet project: I make my own cat-hare wigs! You can fashion many different styles. For exzample, heer’s my Amy Winehouse Bride-of-Frankenstine beehive:

And my personal favorite, the soft serve:

Go ahed, make yer own wig and send me the fotos! I’ll post the best ones heer. You can try a mullet, a pompadoor – the possibilities are endless!

So as you can planely see, the Furminator is not only an important tool in maintaining yer health and wellness, but it can also supply you with the raw materials for a vary fun craft project! It comes in many kyoot colors as well as different widths (to accomodate widebody cats), and has a rubber handle that is easy to grip (for those with opposable thums).

My only consern (and I coodn’t test this cuz nobuddy at owr howse has long furs) is that it may not be good for long-hared cats (at least, not if the fur is matted or tangled), becuz the teeth are vary close together.

four and a half stars I give the FURminator 4-1/2 stars.

Awesome job Skeezix. Mum has been thinking of getting us a furminator, because we like to leave our furs EVERYWHERE (especially up her nose). This will give us enough ammo to make her get one!

Doood! I don’t like being brushed or anything but I might give that a try. If I let the Woman use one on me and she gets lots of fur, do you want it? You can spin it into yarm and make kyoot owtfits for yourself…

I didn’t like the furminator because my fur is very THICK and it seemed to just pull it out. So I yowled and howled and growled and I switched to a rake that’s really made for dogs but it works better for me.

    Miles loves the furminator though.

Hey Skeezy, We got one of thoes units and it works fantastic removin’ the unwanted stuff and kinks. We use it every other week to keep the handsome cat look. Bosc loves to be groomed and gets it done daily. He purrs the whole time while either gettin’ combed or brushed. He even likes a Dustbuster ran over his coat afterwards to pick up the short ends! Keep us the great work. Your good pal, Bosco.

  34. Squeakers & Sandy posted a comment on October 5th, 2008 at 11:06 pm

Great review! Mommy loves our Furminator, she got it from Amazon where it’s a bit cheaper, and she gave one to her aunt who has a furball too.
Sandy doesn’t like to be furminated cuz she has a lot of fur for a meezer (and some fun hairballs too), but she allows Mommy to do it, if she’s lucky.
I thought my Mommy was the only one who played with our old fur, she saves it, for when we go to the Bridge, she calls it a momento. but I never thought of making wigs for hairless kitties! Just like Lovelocks for humans!

  35. Intarsia posted a comment on October 6th, 2008 at 2:33 pm

Skeezix, I loved your post! But I need advice from someone with long-haired furs. I bought a Furminator a couple of months ago, and when I tried it on my long-haired boy (who keeps himself pretty neat and doesn’t mind being brushed and combed like a My Little Pony), it got stuck after about an eighth of an inch. Longhaired cow cat Sammy ran away, so I tried it on Ridley, my beautiful medium-haired tuxedo girl. I brush her with no trouble, but the Furminator had her jumping, no, flying out of my lap. What am I doing wrongly? Am I not holding it right? Only minimal instructions came with the Furminator. What to do? I’d like to protect my babies from hairballs…

Dad got us a Furminator some time ago, and it does work pretty well. It even will get rid of small matts if you use it the right way.
I like it–my really shorthaired brothers aren’t too crazy about it.

  41. Abby posted a comment on October 6th, 2008 at 8:20 pm

My hoomin uses the furminator on me all the time. I’m an Artic short-haired cat. Just kidding. I’m not from the Artic, I just have really, really thick fur. I loose fur all the time. The furminator really works – that is until I get grouchy and make the hoomin stop.

I was a bit skeptic when I first saw the Furminator! I bought it and the first time I used it on Smokey, she was in heaven. She is perssian/siamese, so she has the longer hair and it works great for her. My other cat, Levi, he is a short hair and he doesn’t like it as well. Smokey, likes to be brushed daily, although I don’t use the furminator daily, I try to use it every other day or so .

Thank you Skeezix, I totally agree. My Mom got one a few weeks ago and she loves it because it really cuts down on fur around the house. I’m a shorthair and so are my two brothers. I love the Furminator and so does Sunny but Shadow doesn’t really care for it. Sunny and I will let Mom brush us as long as she wants but Shadow only puts up with it for a little while. I think all kitties are different, especially in their fur sensitivity. Mom let the neighbors borrow it and they have a longhair Mancoon who loved it too. However their shorthair kitty did not like it. So if anyone is thinking of getting one I’d try borrowing it from a friend fist to see if you like it. But as Mom will tell you, the best part for her is not having to vacuum so much anymore. I’m looking forward to future posts. Thanks!

We love the furminator too! It gets a good workout with 8 cats. Fills up the floor with lots of fur. Good product- gets our paws of approval!

it works great on long hair cats. as long as you don’t brush fast, it isn’t any problem with mats. it helped pull some of mine out, since they were really loose anyway. harley doesn’t like it, he hisses at it and runs. bear likes it, tho. she even lets the twolegs brush her tummy with it. for me, it depends on who’s brushing. it pulled a huge wad out of my tail over the summer, it felt nice. i like their shampoo OK, too. it smells nice and flowery. we also have the Breeze litter box, harley is really the only one who uses it.

I feel like a kitty again. I requested she get me somemore soon! MEOW!
