Newcastle School Chums Rescue Pregnant Cat
Karen Nichols

newcastle

In Cowgate, near Newcastle in the UK, a pair of 11-year-old school chums, Liam Atkinson and Joe Ward, rescued a very pregnant female cat when they found her wandering the streets. Sadly, she’d been abandoned next to a broken pet carrier. The boys took the cat into school and told their teachers what had happened.

Eleven year old Liam said: “She came nuzzling up behind us as we were on our way to school and then she started following us. I picked her up and she looked very fat so I thought she must be pregnant. I went home to get a basket to carry her in.

Joe added: “We told the teacher and phoned the RSPCA first but they couldn’t come so the caretaker brought her into the shelter.”

She began to give birth to five healthy kittens en route to the Newcastle Cat and Dog Shelter. Cat and kittens are all doing well and are healthy.

You HAVE to view the video of these adorable boys describing the rescue.

What a wonderful story and so uplifting to finally hear something positive about what these two young boys did to help this abandoned cat and her kittens. I can only say that I hope they get some support from their community and I also hope that the cat and her babies are adopted out to some loving and caring “forever homes” Bless this two young men for their extra special good deed!

Awww, what sweet boys. It is so nice to hear how these sweet boys cared enough to find help for the kitty. She is beautiful and so are her babies. Hoping for furever homes for them all.

Ahhh, so cute! we’re very impressed you Americats could understand the Newcastle accent without subtitles! It’s a very strong dialect they speak with up there in Newcastle!

p.s. in the UK, black cats are considered to be lucky rather than unlucky so don’t suffer that unfortunate discrimination of being mistreated due to their colour. They do find it more difficult to find homes along with black and white cats, just because they are considered ‘plain’ or ‘boring’ – WE DISAGREE!
Whoever abandoned that sweet cat – SHAME ON YOU! and WELL DONE BOYS on the rescue!!

What a heart warming story. The cat looks just like me…..but I can’t have kittens!!

Hope the message gets out that “Real Men Are Kind to Animals”. Bless these boys and their parents and teachers, who obviously taught them to respect life.

Did not find their accents that hard to understand. But hey, we are from the American South…..and we REALLY have accents down here…..MOL….MOL…

It’s nice to hear something GOOD about kids an’ cats. I was beginning to wonder if kids had forgotten ’bout being kind to animals. Good work, boys … There’s a little spot in Heaven for nice children.

Lovely story :D Cowgate is only 5 minutes away from me here in Newcastle; it’s where I attended primary school! It’s really nice to hear a fantastic tale like this when so often we hear of kids being cruel to animals. Thanks to these lovely boys, and I’ll keep an ear out to hear if all the kittens find homes!

What smart and thoughtful boys these two young men are! They both deserve an A+++ for their excellent job of helping a little cat in need! The British are such animal lovers. A truly heartwarming story!
