Having been vegetarian my whole life, I find it hard to understand why meat eaters get so uptight about things like this. A cat, a rabbit, a chicken--what's the difference? In some countries, cats are considered a food animal; in other countries, they are pets. This cat was butchered in the normal way for a food animal: slit its throat, remove the blood, skin it and butcher it. Yes, it's awful, but that's how all your meat reaches your table--don't you people know this? Why should a man who eats a cat be punished any more than the proverbial bunny boiler? Or a farmer who makes hamburgers from his own stock? It's true that this man destroyed the cat to get at his girlfriend. Some people destroy their ex's car, or cut up the clothes in their wardobe. It doesn't fit the (statistically questionable) profile of a serial killer: Such sociopaths have been shown to need no reason to torture animals, and to do it from a young age. Who in their right mind, obviously this guy had severe mental problems or something of the sort and deserves to be locked up in the nuthouse for the remainder of this life, would kill a cat, skin it, butcher it and then EAT it? If I was that judge, I'd have sent him to jail for 25 years, make him attend counselling every day for the rest of his life, and ban him from ever having any kind of pet.
