We just bought the Airmuscle and I had the same experience as Karen - to try it out I ran it over a long wool hall runner that had been vacuumed regularly (and within the last 4 days) with an Oreck upright and an Electrolux Oxygen. We have two dogs. The amount of hair and dirt the Airmuscle took out of that hall runner in one pass was unbelievable - filter cylinder contents much like shown above. Since the vacuum head doesn't swivel I suspect it won't be good for maneuvering around furniture, but it looks like it has great capability to take the dirt and pet hair out of carpets and rugs. I was impressed.

Just brought ours home and Wow! We have mostly hardwood floors and low pile throw rugs. What we pulled up from one throw rug was unbelievable! It looks brand new now. My wife was disgusted at the amount hair (it really pulls out hair from pets that you just can't see), but at the same time she was happy to finally see what normally would not get picked up. It put the other vacuum to shame. It really works well on the flat surface. The attachments are essential for furniture.
We bought it from one of the big box stores (not the one that is only .com now) for 569.99 with 18 months same as cash. This is our first Dyson product and we went out on a limb to say yes, we'll pay that much for a vacuum, but after the first use and the 5 year warranty, it was worth every cent.
Buy the DC28 Animal with confidence!

I have 2 dogs who shed like crazy. I needed a good vacuum that would have good suction. I have bought a couple of the vacuums that were supposedly for pets, they did ok but I just felt like they were cleaning like I wanted. I finally gave in a bought they dyson dc28 animal from Sears today. I really was afraid that once I got it home that I wound not be happy. I put it together and started using right away. I was pleasantly surprised at the great job it does. I am very happy that I bought it. I love it................

So my wife and I just got married 4 weeks ago. In the marriage I inherited a Shark Infinity Vac. I LOVED the vacuum power of the Shark but it seemed like every time I used it I was disassembling it and cleaning out something that clogged it. (more our fault than the vacuums) I also found out that parts aren't available for it anymore so repairing a few of the broken parts wasn't going to happen anymore. Sooooo on with the story... We had about 300 bucks worth of returned gift money (from the wedding) at Bed Bath & Beyond. Since we didn't get all the china it made no sense to keep the few pieces we did. So anyway... We went there thinking we'd look and see what they had for vacuums. We looked at the Dyson Ball vacs but what I saw was a beater head that looked to just sit on top of the carpet and had no real down pressure on it so it was nixed. We then moved on to the Air Muscle Animal and liked what we saw. So after talking with customer service about our return we were surprised to find that we CAN use the 20% off anything in the store coupon on the Dyson even though it said on the coupon we couldn't. So we went home and grabbed the coupon and bought the vacuum. I walked out the door with a 600 dollar vacuum for 116.00 dollars out of pocket. Uhm... Yeah... Really can't beat that!
So I went to testing it. Now keep in mind I vacuumed the day before with the Shark which has equally good suction but not the Air Muscle technology and I have two shedding dogs. One is a Golden Retriever who I swear takes joy in shedding... lol So I went to work on the upstairs... I FILLED the canister one time on the carpet I have just vacuumed the day before. I was AMAZED! I must say this vacuum worked WAY better than I imagined it would. The beater stays right on the carpet and the carpet literally looks like someone raked it when you're done vacuuming. So my recommendation to you is to BUY THIS VAC! Yes it's STUPID expensive but it works like a charm. Some have said that Dyson's don't have great suction but they must be talking about the old ones because this thing is stupid good!

Cheers all,
Chris

the only thing is the suction is almost too good, when i go to vaccum my carpet if its too humid out it cant handle the thickness of the carpeting and makes a loud annoying sound. and if your carpets are older and not fully attached to the floor below then it sucked the carpet up and clogs it, once agian making the annoying sound.

This sounds like a vacuum worth checking out.

And now, a plea to cat owners everywhere. Please, for the love of Mike, STOP using words like 'purrfect' and 'pawesome.' It makes upstanding citizens - many of us avid pet owners - spontaneously vomit blood.

thank you

I had a Dyson once. The motor burned out. I got new one of another brand for less than the cost of repairing the Dyson. Our recycling centre has as many dead Dysons as it has of all other brands put together. I'm not impressed with them. The idea is good, but they blow!

The Dyson isn't expensive folks - the Rainbow does all this and more, at twice the price.
BUT- they last *forever*.
My first Rainbow was one Granma bought in 1960, mom got it handed down in '72, and I received (I begged shamelessly) in 91 - and it ran 'til 06 when it finally died and I replaced it with - another Rainbow.
If the Dyson does as good a job as the Rainbow, it's NOT expensive.

I love this dyson DC 28. We just bought it Saturday at Bed Bath and Beyond. I was going to scrap my wall to wall in our 3 yr old condo. I am keeping it now. We cashed in our Citi card points and got $200 in free gift cards and I used a 20% off discount coupon I had from the mail. Thus it was $319. It is worth shopping around for. It is a remarkable cleaning tool. I can''t figure out how the attachments work. Nothing about the tools or extender wand in the very pictoral hand guide.
