Is Tizzie the World’s Oldest Cat — at 36 Years Young?
Karen Nichols

In a claim that strains credulity, Jim Cowell of the U.K. has come forward to claim that his cat Tizzie is the world’s oldest at 36+ years old.

Cowell says that Tizzie was found near some railroad tracks in the 1970s by a couple who gave the cat to Jim’s mother. This 1975 photograph shows Jim’s mother and Tizzie.

Jim hopes that his story will prompt the couple who originally found Tizzie to come forward and help verify Tizzie’s age. Tizzie’s vet has no record of her age, so she’s unlikely to make it into the record books without further proof.

I am confuzled. The photo is from 1975? She doesn’t look
all that young even in that picture. Oh well, I will believe it when I see proof. Too good to be true. IMHO

I thought I had an old girl at the age of 26 (ish), she can’t make it into the book of records either as she has no birth cert or continuous care from vets.

Last year, Al Palusky’s cat Baby died at the age of 38, but, like Tizzie’s owner, Al had no documentation to prove Baby’s age. So Guinness’ “oldest cat in the world” was younger than Baby! That may turn out to be the case with Tizzie.

    It could happen.

Grandpa Rex Allen died in Austin a few years ago at around 34 I believe. With documentation! He was less than one year shy of the world record!
I myself was less than three months from 24 years old.

(We Texas kitties are a hearty bunch, mol!)

Wow! Cats are the best! An acquaintance of ours has a 30-year-old cat. By the time you are 30 you are truly a grown-up! And probably a lot wiser than your humans! And the cat who lived for years with FIV? Wow! We have a friend whose cat lived to 15 with FIV! Life is truly amazing!
