From the Ashes of a Burned-out Home, a Tiny Mew
L to R: Jonathan Plattner, 12, Jessa Plattner, 14 and Jacqueline LeVoir with Ace the cat.
A tiny kitten has eight lives remaining after miraculously surviving a fire that destroyed his home in Lakeside Park, Kentucky.
The family and their dog, Lassie, escaped through an upstairs window as the fire raged, but 6-month-old Ace the Cat was left behind and was presumed to have perished. A neighbor even told the family that the kitten’s body had been found.
When they returned to to assess the damage, 14-year-old Jessica Plattner walked through the burned out home calling the cat’s name. She heard a meow coming from above. The meowing continued, and using her cellphone as a flashlight, she stumbled upstairs to find Ace on the burned remains of a bed, surrounded by insulation. “He actually looked pretty decent,” her mother, Jacqueline LeVoir said, “he just looked a little skinnier and he was all dirty and full of soot.”
The kitten — who was a cherished Christmas gift — was coughing and sneezing, but checked out as healthy by the vet. He’s receiving nasal saline and antibiotics, but is otherwise none the worse for wear.
“It truly is a miracle,” Jacqueline LaVoir said. “They are so happy. If my house had to burn down, it couldn’t have been better that literally everybody survived including the pets.”
The family lost everything in the blaze, yet everything that mattered was saved.

That made our eyes leak. We are so glad that the little kitty survived.
Woo hoo that little Ace made it through such an ordeal! We’re glad the family has him back!
What a sweet story!
Hi Skeezix, That was a nice story with a happy ending. Bosco.
What a feel good story, Ace must be one super cat.
Right before christmas there was a major fire at an apartment building, 64 apartments were totalled. Many pets were stuck in the fire because of when it happened (their families were at work/school) but evern now a month later, they are STILL finding cats that survived and have been hiding in the remains of the building. The power of the purr is pretty amazing!!!!!
Typo in that, it should have said “in an apartment building near where I live….”
When ever mom see’s a disaster she feels bad of course but, she always wonders if there where pets involved. This is great! We always light our candle in prayers to the animals who’s voices can not be heard in a disaster. Lucky for Ace they were answered!
Some for Chester’s story!
i’m so glad everyone is safe, people and animals alike! I don’t know what I’d do if i lost my cat, Josie.

We survived a fire too – Mom found me and my sisfur Patch in a dresser drawer two days later. Mom got Sara out, the firemen brought out Ollie and Freyja but said they saw us run away. We kitties have amazing survival insticts!
I am so grateful everyone survived. We recently had a fire at our home, which did not turn serious, fortunately. It was a gas fire and the instructions fromthe fire department were to leave the house immediately. As my husband kept yelling at me to leave, I was scrambling to find as many of my cats as I could and stuff them into a carrier to take them to safety. I only left the house as I heard the firetrucks approach. I would hve given my life to save my babies. Hurray for Ace, he has earned a special place in this life and at the bridge int he future. Reminded me a bit of the story of Scarlett, the cat that saved her 5 kittens from a raging fire.
