Duct-Taped Cat Has a New Furever Home
Karen Nichols

The cat who was mummified with duct tape has found a new home. Here’s the story from Philly.com:

‘Sticky’ has found a family.

The cat that became a media sensation after being found body-wrapped in duct tape joined its new adoptive family yesterday, according to the Pennsylvania Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

A handful of people called to claim ownership, but no one followed through, according to spokeswoman Liz Williamson.

“They were given the opportunity to come in and meet with our officers and prove ownership,” she said. “Only one person even set up an appointment and that person did not keep the appointment.”

More than 100 adoption requests came in, and they were considered on a first-come, first-served basis.

This family’s request came soon after the news broke Sept. 22 about a cat found bound from neck to toes in a North Philadelphia yard, Williamson said.

The female cat was nicknamed “Sticky” by workers at the PSPCA, where she was sedated so the tape could be removed with scissors. The cat was doing well after her ordeal.

The family wishes to remain anonymous, and Williamson didn’t know where they live or whether they have children or other pets.

She was also waiting word on whether the name “Sticky” would stick.

The case captured public attention, generating all sorts of news reports that led to increases in adoptions, donations and phone calls for the society’s headquarters in North Philadelphia.

Last year, from Sept. 23 to 29, 15 cats were adopted at the headquarters at 350 E. Erie Ave. This year, during the same period, 58 cats found new homes, an increase Williamson called “awesome.”

Donors who mentioned Sticky gave $2,075, she said.

Callers clogged phone lines with leads for investigators, who were offering a $2,000 reward.

On Saturday evening, acting on a tip, Pennsylvania SPCA law enforcement officers arrested James Davis, 19, of the 2100 block of 22d Street in North Philadelphia.

If convicted of the animal cruelty, Davis faces up to two years in prison and a fine of at least $1,000, the PSPCA said.

“He did not have any previous convictions or complaints related to animal cruelty,” Williamson said.

“We’re very pleased that Sticky’s story is one of our success stories,” she said. “We’re very, very pleased with the outpouring of love and support that not only Sticky received, but also our law-enforcement officers and staff during the past week.”

Many other cats and kittens are available for adoption, she pointed out.

“We encourage everyone who was interested in adopting Sticky to visit our headquarters at 350 E. Erie Ave. or the Animal Care and Control Team at 111 West Hunting Park Ave.,” Williamson said.

Adoption hours at Erie Avenue are 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. weekdays, 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. They’re more limited at West Hunting Park Avenue: 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Fridays, and noon to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

I’m glad that sweet baby is okay and is with a loving home. I’m also glad that the person who did this has been caught and will be punished.

Who thinks up this crap? Seriously?

I am so glad that this person has been caught and will be punished, and if was up to me… I’d have him taped up and immobilized along with spending many years in prison. I hope that this doesn’t happen again, though it probably will, and I hope that Sticky will have a great life, tape-free.

I’m so glad she has a new home! Purring that the perpetrator gets the maximum sentence and fine.

They should give him the maximum sentence and fine and for the duration of his sentence he should be wrapped up in duct tape. What a monster. I too hope this kitty gets a new name that will help put this horrible event behind her.

Yay, yay, yay!!! I’m so glad Sticky has been adopted!! I think the name is cute. It’s part of her story and who she is. She has survived a horrendous ordeal and now has a family to go home to.

My name is Moochy and I am a Flame-point Himalayan. If you are on the Catster.com website, my ID Number is 398034…
I was dumped by my former owners, at a fast-food place, in N. Palm Springs, 5 years ago. These people did not even come back to look for me. They made one phone call, to the Truck stop across the street, and my “Forever Momma” happened to answer the phone call. 1 & 1/2 hrs later, she came over to the Jack-in-the-Box, where she found me, waiting patiently, next to the drive-thru lane, waiting for my family to come back and rescue me. I was wearing a leash & harness, and had been spayed & fully declawed, so I was very lucky, that Momma Carol found me. No way I could have survived, out there, in this desert town.
Momma soon discovered that I had a “Pee Problem” and thinks that perhaps this was the reason I was abandoned; that maybe I peed in these people’s car, or something.
With alot of patience, Momma and I have figured out what makes me “tick”, and she gives me treats, when I Pee in the “Proper” places. I try my best, to do a “Good Job”! ;)
We read about cute little “Sticky” and were apalled that someone could do such a thing, to such a sweet Kitty; we saw how loving and gentle she was, and could not understand the “reasoning”, why someone could ever hurt such a lovely Kitty!
And Momma was thrilled to hear the person was caught, and that the little Cutie Kitty now has a loving Forever Home!
Sticky, You and I are very lucky Kitties, that someone was in the “right place”, at the “right time”, to save our lives. We wish you a long and Happy life!
Hooray for people who care enough about Animals of all kinds, to make their lives better and happy!
    Sincerely,
    Moochy & Momma Carol

Congratulations sweetheart! We are so happy that you have found a home, and even more happier that other kitties also found their fur-ever homes.

Thank goodness that most people in this world are kind and loving and are always in the “right place at the right time”.

May your new life be filled with much happiness and lots of love!

    Purrs,
Bella, Tally and angels, Tiger & Sami

I am very happy that this story has a happy ending. “Sticky” is in a good home now, and has a bright future ahead. On the other hand, I attest the extreme cruelty brought about any animal in such a manner as this. I love my kitties, and it breaks my heart when one of them is sick, or gets hurt. One of my original, oldest kitties died of a blood clot a few months ago, and while we tried everything at the vet to keep her alive, we also paid the extra price to make sure that she was in no pain during the whole process. I miss Flopsy so dearly!

I hope if the kid is found guilty, he is given 500 hours of community service an SPCA. He needs to gains respect for animals. He must have never had REAL LOVE in his life. He needs to learn before it is to late and he advances to worse behavior.
