Catsmas Giveaway: Day 4 – Pet’s-Eye-View Cat Cam
On the 4th Day of Catsmas, I gave my cat a cam.
Today, we’re giving away a camera that can be worn on your cat’s (or dog’s) collar, so you can monitor her daily activities and see if she has potential as a feline photojournalist (like Cooper the catumentarian).
My cats Skeezix and Tripper have been trying one out, and here are some of the photos they shot WITH NO PHOTOGRAPHIC EXPERTISE WHATSOEVER!
Yep, the collar-mounted camera is designed for easy use even if you don’t have opposable thumbs. Its plastic lens lends a dreamy quality to the shots.
It’s a lot of fun, with a few caveats. You have to download the photos to your computer within a specified period of time after they’re taken, otherwise the battery dies and the photos are erased. If water gets in the housing, the camera will die.
Also, most of the photos you take will be the victims of motion blur if your cat is moving when it’s snapped:
However, if you set your expectations appropriately and don’t expect Ansel Adams’-level quality, it is incredibly fun.
You can set the photos to snap at 1-, 5-, or 15-minute intervals. And if you find that your cat is gifted behind the lens, you can upgrade to the professional-grade Mr Lee Cat Cam later!
The drawing for this prize is open to cats in the US and Canada.

If one of our gassing pound rescued kitties could wear this camera to document how adorable & adoptable his cattery buddies are–this would help all our plain jane tabbies & torties and domestic short hairs we rescue finally find their forever homes. In turn, that would give us room to rescue other urgent cats and kittens from the Georgia pounds we try to help. To us- they are ALL beautiful but so many adopters THINK they want a pretty siamese type until they actually come to meet our kitties— the rural pounds we help dont get alot of purebreds–instead, they get the obnoxiously friendly short haireds who are just as deserving of a loving home. This camera would give so many kitties a second chance at the rest of their 9 lives! thank you for considering us!

I’ve been telling my husband that we need a camera to make sure our Lab “Brinkley” is okay when were gone and better yet, one that he can wear so we can see @ his level what he walks into, etc. Brinkley is a diabetic and receives shots 2x’s a day & he’s only 6yrs. As the time has gone on, now he’s almost blind from the side effects, so it would be lovely to see how he is when were not home.

OMG! I’d love to see what our youngest kitty Pocky does all day. She is a 11 month old Tortie who just loves to terrorize the two older cats! She especially loves to go after my Sphynx (hairless cat) Monty. When they get to playing, it’s like 2 FREIGHT TRAINS rumbling through the apartment! I can really use one of these to find out how my recently adopted pooch keeps getting into everything from the trash to my slippers. What an ingenious prize! I would love to be able to post photos that my CAT himself “took.” Although I suspect it would be a lot of blurry shots, which would be close-ups of his fur as he nuzzled on the bed for a (long) winter’s nap. Still, it would be extremely interesting (and fun) to have questions answered, such as whether he actually drinks from his fountain and whether he disturbs various things around the house.

Oh my — how we’d love to see what our cats see. Although they are NOT outdoor cats (other than an enclosed porch) they do go to cat shows but most of all, we’d like to see what goes on when we leave them alone in the house!! Think we might be surprised.

My cat only wants to be indoors at night. He roams around the yard and the church next door and protects the area. I think that he has friends that visit, but when I go outside he shoo’s them off. Pumpkin is my only roamer. She is an awesome hunter & once brought me a tiny breathing close-eyed critter I couldn’t even identify! She carefully carried it home down our fence-line, like a kitten & I later learned it was a baby squirrel! The wildlife rehabilitator said their was no harm & fed the tiny critter until it could safely be released on its own!

I have researched several different pet cams to get to watch over my babies, but I never found one that I thought would be suitable. Cheddar, Chazz, and Chase – my 3 boys would love to win the cat cam. They love to get tuna time and go have cat crazed fun in the cat condo. The youngest one – Chase would really put on a show with his mouse fishing pole. They all turn over the huge basket of toys and I enjoy watching them for hours. My kitties, Sebastion and Sophia would really like me to see the world through their eyes with the catcam. They hope it will make me a more understanding mom and explain why they are always swatting at the dogs and jumping on their backs. They swear the dogs always start the fights when my back is turned. They need proof though because I think the dogs are the victims here.
I have seven indoor-only cats, 3 of the between 1-2 years old. I’d put the camera on Mischievous Maximilian, my youngest mail, because he’s so active, and kind of a lunk head. He gets into trouble all the time, and plays with both his brothers and both little girls. I’d be curious to see what he does all day.
Several years back, when I had only two kitties, I installed two webcam servers in my house and setup my router to permit me to access them from work. I’d check in on my sleepy beauties and watch them whenever I felt stressed out. Maybe I could revive those cameras. It’s hard to pick only two areas to watch.

My mommy put a kitty cam on my collar but it caused problems with her computer. After she reformatted her hard drive, she wouldn’t put it back on me again because she said her computer cost more than the kitty cam.

A few years ago a friend suggested I get a mini-cam to see where Boy George goes & what he does, as everyone in the neighborhood seems to know him. He even gets phone calls. I didn’t think there was such a thing as a minicam for cats, so I am truly excited about the contest. If he wore a minicam I could see who he hangs with & what they’re up to. He & his sister Cordelia have already been featured in 2 calendars — w/a minicam maybe he could be a film director!

My Bengal cat, Kahn, would be a perfect candidate for the mini-catcam. He rules our neighborhood and when he’s out, all the other cats run for cover. I’d love to know why they find him so intimidating as he’s 9 yrs old and only 6 lbs (he’s been sick for the past month and has lost half his body weight).

Awesome has had a cat’s eye camera since the summer and has captured some simply marvelous photographs during his adventures while wearing his camera. He has shown to be a simply wonderful photographer. His other cat companions are very jealous that he was the one selected by Friskies to participate in their project over the summer and the others, Leeloo, RC and Shale would each love to be able to show off their own camera rather than being able to occasionally borrow Awesome’s to take their own photos.

Eartha Kitty was a feral baby who domesticated quite easily and is a lovely cat. Although I know it is best to keep her inside, her roots as a wild-woman keep her yearning to go prowl…so, I have had her uber-vaccinated and put a hot pink collar with a bell on her and let her go outside. I’d love to see who she visits, and how she interacts with the other neighborhood cats, and squirrels and blue jays.

I would sooo love for my Harry to have this camera! He is a natural born mischief maker, so much so that his second name is TROUBLE. He loves to get into things and is in everyone else’s way. He’s the youngest of a household of four cats, the oldest being 15. The others all consider Harry to be a juvenile delinquent! All he wants to do is play but he usually gets into way too much trouble…I swear he must think his name is “Harry- No!” I can just imagine how much fun it would be to see things from his end of his own little world. I would love to see what my kitty does during the early morning. All of her toys are in different spots when we get up in the morning from where they were the night before. She looks so innocent, but I know she roams around during the night, because I hear her.

This would be really interesting to see what my cat sees, I would love to see what she does during the day and even at night, though it would be a lot of close ups of me since she likes to sit on my pillow and stare at me while I sleep. Still, I wanna see what else she likes to do.

I would love to have this little cam to see what my cats are doing during the day and to see if they are messing with my rabbit. They like to stick their paws into his cage and try to play with him. Baby Myrrh is enjoying her 1ST Christmas by ramming through the entire house and bouncing from tree to tree to see what ornament she can break first. I thought Siamese kittens were calm their first year or so…what a ninny am I.. I’ll never listen to those dog breeders again…..

Recently Madonna was spooked by something. Her favorite hiding place was under the bed, now she is hesitant on going under there. She jumps at any sound and is always looking for something.I have searched and searched the entire house and there is nothing. No big spiders or bugs, no mice and haven’t moved any furniture or made any big changes to the house. This collar would be perfect for our situation. I would love this, I always wondered what Abby does when we’re not around.
1 year ago we brought Shy home from the MSPCA so frightened he wouldn’t leave the cage or kitchen for several days. Since then he has to investigate and push everything including everything computer related, glass related, liquid related. However, when he chooses to relax, he insists on pressing close to me for his length of time. Shy is shy no longer.
It would be awesome for us to win a kitty cam! We are starting a website about our kitties called Feline Army and this cam would be perfect to show the mischiefs our cats pull while we’re not there.
Our cat Chocolate is always throwing stuff down and then he pretends he wasn’t even there, this would for sure catch some of his pranks =)

I have six cats and a dog in my house. Just about every time I come home an article of clothing is missing or has been moved under the bed. I would love to find out which one of my kiddos is the culprit! I can find out where all the socks have gone!
And just to see what the world looks like from their angle would be amazing. To be able to see how life really is from way down there. To see how big we appear to them and to see why those high perches bring them such peace. To see what their daily struggles in getting to that forbidden corner or forbidden shelf of the house would be great!

If I had one of these, my Mom would see that I was a good girl all day. I was nice to my sister Lady (she sure is a really big cat but why does she bark?). My Mom would really like to have one of these things.
I would love to know where my “kids” go when they are out and what they do when I am not home. Jenny would probably be sleeping on the bed (she learned the value of a warm bed, especially between mommy and daddy.) Jenny was adopted after she was most probably abused dumped at the post office and it took her a very long time to trust us. Abby is a compulsive eater and is on a diet, so we would probably have hours of her sitting by the bowl. I have no clue what Max does; he probably tries to keep order, because “Special” Jake is always pushing his siblings to get them to play!
This would finally solve the mystery of how Max gets to the toilet paper and shreds it!!! What a great gadget!
