This weekend, I’m joining other Catsters in cheering on Catster Jeter Harris‘ mom as she walks 60 miles over 3 days to raise funds and awareness for breast cancer research. Most of us have previously only interacted with each other online through Catster, so it’s a thrill to meet the people behind the cats and support a worthy cause.

The video above is one in a series produced by Purina Cat Chow to tell the stories of women who found support from their cats as they fought breast cancer. It’s worth investing a few minutes of your time to watch these testimonials to the power of the paw.

This year, Purina Cat Chow is donating over $200,000 to Susan G. Komen for the CureĀ® to fund research. If you take the breast cancer awareness quiz provided on their site, they will donate $1.00, up to an additional $125,000, toward the cause.

What a lovely lady she is and her story mirrors my mum’s. My mum too was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2005 and said we were just amazing and helped her recover quickly. We cuddled up to her all the time and were very well behaved and had no fistycuffs or mischievous behaviour until we were sure she was better. We live in England and mum often has sales (she even sold 2 of her favourite designer handbags!) and donates the money to our local Hospice, which is a wonderful place.
We’re purring for all the ladies who have breast cancer to be survivors like our mum!

Hello Skeezy, What a wonderful story and a great cause also. Congradulatios to Jeter’s Mom for her dedication and work. This type of cancer is nothing to mess with, catch it early and you’ll be OK, wait too long and good bye to you. We know about this, as we have seen many unnecessary deaths to friends and family members that could have been prevented. Us guys need learn to check our own private parts and have a good exam every year with an Urologist, especially after hitting 50! Take care and keep up the great and interesteing works! Pal always, Bosco and family.

This is such an important cause. In the last few months I have learned of 3 of my old friends getting breast cancer. Sadly, only 2 are survivors. When my step-mother started treatment for breast cancer too, I rushed to get my mammogram. Anything that we can do to fight this disease helps. Go Jeter’s mom!

We always take care of mommy when she doesn’t feel well, and she swears it helps!! All the best to Jeter’s mommy this weekend, as she participates in the San Francisco 3 Day! Jeter’s mommy is walking 60 miles this weekend…what will you be doing? :)

Our Mummy is a survivor too. We snuggled with her on the bed to make her feel better when she came home from treatment. Catching it early is the key. Anyone can get it – old, young, middleaged women; men can get it. Treatment is progressing all the time and anything that helps research is worthwhile.
