Kofi the Cat, Missing Since 2005, Returned Thanks to Microchip
Kofi the cat (right) is back with his owner after having been missing for 3-1/2 years according to the RSPCA.
Kofi had been missing since Fall 2005, when he vanished from his Nottingham home. An RSPCA inspector was called after the cat was found injured in a street in Ipswich, Suffolk on April 6th.
A microchip scan quickly revealed Kofi’s identity and a checkup by a vet showed that he had nothing worse than an infected flea bite. Kofi was reunited with owner Sarah Hawley, who now lives in Sheffield. He is reported to be doing well, according to an RSPCA spokeswoman. “We couldn’t believe it when the chip showed that the cat had travelled so far from home,” she said.
“We see so many unwanted animals that to get this cat back home after so long, just because of his microchip, is fantastic.”
Kofi’s owner, Mrs Hawley added, “I was amazed … We had given up hope of seeing him again.”

Thanks for this story. I love good news.
I’m currently saving up to have all the Morning Scratch staffers microchipped.
Hi Skeezy, What great news for a change!

Yet another example of why I tell everyone who will listen to microchip their pets!!!

SWEET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Luckky cat! and a proof that the chip works!
Calvin, I would bet that someone took him in and never bothered to check for a microchip (this is why people like Daniela do a good deed telling people about microchips: if more people knew about them, more people would ask their vet to scan for them when they find a “stray” living near them). Sadly, it would have been unlikely for him to live that long and be back home with nothing more than an infected flea bite if he had to live as a stray.
Luckily, Kofi is back home.
