About Karen Nichols and Skeezix the Cat

Karen Nichols would probably still be held captive by St Agnes Hospital in Fresno, California were it not for a litter of Dachshunds, the proceeds from the sale of which paid the hospital bill when Karen was born. She’s been indebted to animals ever since. Her first cat, Freda, a blind Siamese, slept on her chest every night from the time she left the crib, forging a lifelong bond with cats, especially Siamese.

Skeezix the Cat — aka the Feline Fashionista — is a 4-year veteran of the cat blogosphere with “Skeezix’s Scratching Post.” You may recognize him as a past winner of the Costumes and Shades category in Catster’s World’s Coolest Cat Contest. Skeezix is the founder of the Cat Blog Help Center and a contributor to the book, “We are the Kitties.” Catsters can find him hanging out in the group “FOS: Friends of Skeezix.”

In addition to Skeezix, Karen’s current feline family includes Rocky (a 17-year-old tuxie adoptee from the SFSPCA), Mao (a cranky middle-aged meezer), and Tripper (a ginormous feral cat now living in the lap of luxury), all of whom have their own blogs.
The family is rounded out by her husband, Jeff (known to followers of Skeezix’s blog as “Mr Tasty Face”), who’s the first to protest that he’s not a cat person. We all know better. Karen, Skeezix and the gang live in the San Francisco Bay Area. |
