Meowing Out to All Bay Area, Sacramento and Wine Country Catsters

This is a special alert meow to all Catster members who live in the greater Bay Area, Sacramento/Lodi area and Wine Country.

We just sent Catster Local window decals to vets, pet stores and all other pet-friendly businesses in your area. They look like the ones pictured here.

The response has been supurrrrberb, but we can't get everywhere. Can you help us by checking in with your local vet and favorite pet businesses and reporting back on whether they got the decals, are displaying them, and know of Catster and how much we love them? Even better, if you send in a picture of displayed Catster Local decals, we'll send you Zealies!

If your favorite pet business isn't displaying a Catster decal, you might ask them if they received one and if they know about Catster. We'll be happy to send them stickers and more info if you send us the mailing address/contact information to community [at] catster [dot] com.

Please feel furee to share *any* experiences you have talking with the pet places in the comments area of this entry. If any pet place is listed in Catster Local, then they were sent a welcome letter and decal.

If you've taken a photo of posted decals and want Zealies, send each photo along with the URL of one of your pets on the site and the name of the store or venue where you saw the sticker to community [at] catster [dot] com. The first person to send in a photo gets the 20 Zealies (though no good deed will go unzealied). ;) Also if you want, you can add the picture to the Catster Local Listing for that business. That would be SO COOL!

Live Now! Cat Owner’s Manual

If you've been looking for a basic guide to cat ownership, you've come to the right place. The Cat Owner's Manual is now available online, only on Catster, and offers helpful information from an expert vet and author.

Though it contains important and sometimes serious information for cat owners, the manual is written in a spirited and lighthearted style that makes it fun to read. Imagine how helpful it would be if every kitty came with its own quick-start manual. Now you have one! We also love the cute and entertaining illustrations that appear throughout the book and on our site.

The manual covers topics ranging from how to introduce a kitten to a new home to dog care for senior felines. Step through its pages and discover a wealth of invaluable advice.

Community Guidelines Update for Groups

Hi everyfur,

As you know our Community Guidelines are not some draconian penal code, they are a simple set of participation expectations based upon the wishes and desires of the community as a whole. We didn't write them so much as codify what was requested of us by the vast majority of the membership base.

You may also know that these rules are never set in stone, they are flexible enough to evolve and be refined as usage and participation evole.

Today we posted some slight modification to the Groups guidelines. Nothing is going to change, they just add some clarification to the rights and roles of administrators and also fundraising.

They are now posted in the Community Guidelines, but here is the new specifics for Groups.

Groups are a place to hang out with like-minded Community members. Membership is voluntary and at your discretion.

Group Administrators are responsible for managing a Group, including the monitoring of member participation within the Group for adherence to Community Guidelines, moderating Group Forums and Messaging and responding to Group member questions and concerns.

Group Administrators determine the policy for fundraising in their Groups and are responsible for managing fundraising efforts within the Group. All fundraising requests must be submitted to a Group Administrator for approval. Group Administrators are responsible for verifying the validity of fundraising requests in their Group.

A list of a Group's Administrators is available at the bottom of the Group's main page.

There should never be activity related to studding, breeding or sales of animals in Groups.

Racism and hate-language are never acceptable, ever.

Groups must follow the laws of California, the United States and the areas all Group members reside in.

Unwanted spamming in Group Forums or via Group Messaging is not allowed. If you're in doubt about what defines unwanted, please contact your Group Administrator.
