Cats have very sensitive hearing, so if you’re like me and you enjoy listening to loud music while you drive, do your kitty a favor and keep the volume low or turn the music off altogether.
Some types of music are less aggravating for your cat and can even help him relax. Pitch range and tempo are important factors; in my experience, cats prefer slower tempos and music without too much thumping bass or shrieking treble. I have a very high pitched, squeaky voice. One of my cats freaks out whenever I sing. She has jumped on my back and bitten my neck more than once. I am not a very good singer, so I figured she was just being a critic. now I can take a little bit of comfort knowing that it’s the pitch, not necessarily the quality of my singing. LOL

All of our cats have always loved classical music, specifically, Baroque!
My cat loved classical music, and would demand we put something on when the house was quiet. She lived to be 21 and when her hearing started to go, she’d lay in front of the speakers and put one paw against them, to feel the music’s vibration. Mozart, Mendelssohn and Bach were her favorites.
How will I drown out the meows, then?
Seriously, though, how do cats rate NPR?
I play music anywhere between pop to jazz to country to hip hop and hard rock in my home, my cats do not seem to mind it. One even likes to stick his head in the cone of sub or lay on it, always chillin’ with me while i am listening to my music. He seems fine. Can hear quite well, especially when opening a can of tuna.
I am so nervous when I have to bring “Girlie” in the car like I did w/ my “Beloved Rustie” 89-03 but he was already maybe 5 at the time I cannot beive I didn’t ask the owner I could neverr have played anyone or anything loud {Michael Jackson} I did play Classical Music,,as I was so preoccupied w/ the safety and contstant soft reassuring verbalizations “”"It’s alright Girlie ,,It’s alright” ’86 but I got him in ’89 so I{ didn’t have him as a kitten rathe she waqas 13 when God took him I swore not to ever have another pet & my mom is unhappy w/ this I’ve hed her for almost 2 yrs she really loves me..[she's 3 yrs old - will be 4 in May] to the vet which I must do she does need shots & every time she drags her back legs I worry but she has no problems rfe:moving her bowels still I’d love to know why she does this it has worried me!

She al,ost chocked however I didn’t think I was hold ing down so much she started to make chocking noises Oh God –Never AGAIN! I don’t like to get her whilke she’s sleeping or groggy bec- that’s her special time– I don’t want her to start being paranoid each time she goes to sleep BUT this stuff will kill bacteria as she licks my cheek..her breath smells bad & she will not eat ant hard food IAMS at 11 Bucks a bag

I Always play Classical..I have been a lover of Classical music since I was 13 Today “Gershwin and Bernstein” Concert Eastern time at 12:30 channel 13 was on last night New Years Eve at “Lincoln Center” {where the movie was made {now a church sits there} will replay today New Years Day All of West Side Story” Rhapsody In Blue” although I love the compioser Endre’ Previns rendition when I have to drive Girlie I play “Dances w/Wolves” {low} or “Horowitz” Van Cliburn “Clair de lune” there’s that famou guy who plays for animals he’s part of the Disney family Co on c’d I wish I had that! It’s sceintifically tested to sooth like they say the harp is! Glad to know people have class our there they are aware of this little gem..info!
When I drive with my cats, they are agitated if I don’t have any sound on. I’ve found, though, that NPR talk shows calm them better than any music.
This explains why my cat hates when I listen to Pixies.
I have always had music on at my house all day and my cats don’t seem to mind I listen almost exclusively to hard rock and heavy metal and my cat Salem has been traveling with me for about 5 years starting at nearly 8 years old and he doesn’t mind either the loud custom exhaust or the nonstop music in my truck although I don’t blast it and he will often sleep at home in the room with the stereo which you can hear throughout the house and it’s a big house my cat curiosity 1997-2010 actually seemed to love heavy metal!!

I play the radio for my foster cats, who were strays and unsocialized, to help get them used to voices and sounds; but I don’t play it too loud. I also play various DVDs for them, for entertainment as well as getting accustomed to household noises. I have 2 “cat” entertainment videos that they love, with birds, fish, other cats. But yes, in the car I play it very solftly or not at all.
