Having wall-to-wall or large area carpeting is going to prove to be a problem for you if you are allergic to your beloved cat. It is best if you can minimize or remove the carpeting, but if you feel you must have it, then choose materials that can be easily cleaned.
The carpet types that are easiest to clean are those that have low pile height and density, fluorocarbon-coated fiber and high-denier filament. What’s the absolute best? Easy-to-clean hard-surfaced floors: linoleum, vinyl, stone, tile, bamboo or wood. Radio show host and pet expert Tracie Hotchner is the author of The Dog Bible and The Cat Bible. My cats ARE four legged allergens !
A couple years ago flat on my back a doctor remarked “you sleep with a cat ?! You’ll have to give that up”
I won’t repeat my thoughts which did not work out to be yes sir, as I spoke “I didn’t say I sleep with a cat, I said I slept with cats. I guess I’ll buy some Zyrtec and Pseudophed.”
And I did.
There were only 3 on the bed this morning
Fire any doctor that tells you to “get rid of your cats” to deal with a health problem, especially allergies. This is someone that doesn’t know what they are doing (the phrase bottom of the class comes to mind).
Then find a REAL allergist, get tested, and get desensitization shots.
If I ever found out I was allergic to my cats, I would do anything in my power to fix the problem. I could never get rid of my 4 legged friends. They are all sweet hearts.
I have lots of tips in THE CAT BIBLE about allergy-proofing a house so if you ever do hear of people who become allergic-or add a spouse to their life who is – please send them to the book so families can stay intact, cats and all!
