You may not think of the interior of your fridge as presenting a danger to your kitty, but if your cat hovers around out of curiosity when you open the refrigerator door, be on the alert for her attempt to “stow away” in there.
Cats will jump into the refrigerator when the door is open and the person, who is oblivious, will shut the door without realizing their pussycat is inside. Learn to be aware of where your cat is when you’re opening the refrigerator and always check inside before you shut the door. What idiot wouldnt notice a cat in the fridge! Good Lord!
YOU MUST BE REALLY STUPID NOT TO SEE YOUR
CAT IN THE FRIDGE.ANYWAYS MOST FRIDGES
ARE PACKED WITH FOOD
I love reading these tips every day. They have really helped my cant and I have a much better relationship. I really appreciate this article because the cat you describe sounds like mine. She is a curious kitty. I wanted to also add, that at my house the dryer used to prevent this same type of hazard. She wanted to lay on the warm items I guess. We now have signs all over our dryer that say check for the cat so that we always look to make sure she hasn’t snuck in there while our attention was elsewhere. I just wanted to share. Thank you so much for all you do.
Philip apparantly you dont have any kitties.
I was surprised by my cat jumping out of the dishwasher once. Luckily we don’t use it to actually wash the dishes. We just use it as a rack to drip dry the handwashed ones and then some water will collect in the bottom. She must have gotten in behind the bottom rack that was pulled out and when I went to close it she jumped out and scared the living daylights out of me!. I also couldn’t get a Kitchen drawer to close tight once and kept pushing and shoving on it to make it close. I finally pulled it forward to see what was stuck in back jamming it and found another cat jumping out to freak me out. Not one cry or meow did she make. I think my cat’s do this in hopes i will be video taping and get them on America’s Funniest Home Videos and win lots of Catnip!
It’s actually funny how ignorant some people may be. Kittens, and cats do some funny things. My cat malory use to jump in the fridge all the time when she was a kitten and til this day she still does run to it when its opened. Except now she can’t even fit in,she’s so fat ! LOL that’s a good thing , because she jumped in there quick one time and we have a deep fridge and I didn’t realize, until I called her name an no where to be found!! She was okay, she was laying in there. She just always loved food!! She is now 5 years old.
Ashley will always jump in the dishwasher or the fridge or even a closet as soon as any door opens. I’ve always wondered what she would do if something else was in there and scared her. MOL!
My sister’s new kitten got stuck in the fridge only the other day. I am relieved to see it’s not just my family who’ve had this experience. It’s easy for cats to get shut in anywhere as they are so swift and silent. In my sis’s case, she was distracted with her toddler and left the door open while she was toing and froing. Luckily we found him right away as he made a huge racket. I was hoping for tips on what to do to warm the poor thing up – other than cuddles, I guess?
When my Mattie was a kitten, she jumped in the fridge without my realizing it. 10 minutes later I heard muffled meows and traced them to the fridge. There she was on the top shelf ! Imagine my surprise and shock ! She still tries to jump in there, but I am very careful when she’s in the kitchen.
For Zoey and Phillip, I don’t consider myself stupid because my cat jumped into the fridge without notice, BUT I am legally blind.
All the more reason to be cautious. Also, you’ll want to watch places like the dryer, washing machine, closets,
dishwashers, pantries, your car and car trunk.
I think unless you have personally had a super-curios and quick kitty who puts you through some of these amazing, distressing, heart-stopping experiences, it is really hard to believe! The fridge is not half so bad as the dryer- in terms of harm coming to the cat – but it all happens so darned fast, you don’t know until later. As long as it’s not “until it’s too late,” consider yourselves lucky and take nothing for granted where quick, curious little cats are concerned. The phrase “Curiosity killed the cat,” came about for reasons just like these!
