Cat Tips

If you have one of those cats who is fascinated by water, it won’t be long before she discovers the big bowl of water in every bathroom. If you have a cat who likes to get up on the toilet seat and try to play with the toilet bowl water, then you’re looking at an accident waiting to happen.

Cats reach into the bowl to touch the water and often can lose their balance on the seat. Once a cat falls into the toilet he may often be unable to exit because the sides are slippery and he cannot get a grip on the seat from below. He may struggle to the point of exhaustion and drown. Keep toilet seats down at all times to avoid this tragedy.

I taught my cats to use the toilet (it took patience but it was worth it). So not only do I save on kitty litter, I now know that I may even have saved their lives!

I never thought about my cat drowning in the toilet if she fell in. I lived in an apartment where the toilet didn’t have a lid and she would drop things in the toilet and play with them. I would come home and find her play mice and my hair scrunchies in the toilet. I guess I was lucky.

There will always be exceptions like these two kitties – but it’s like little children who do all sorts of crazy, kooky things and are fine and then one day can have an accident doing something that doesn’t even seem so dangerous! Just remember there is always truth to a phrase like “Curiosity killed the cat” – so you need to always be cautious because they will not be!
