Cat Tips

There are breeds of cats like Turkish Vans and Maine Coon cats that are notorious for being water lovers. Of course any domestic cat that shares some of the genes of those type of breeds may inherit this inborn tendency to want to play in water.

There are Maine Coons who will go into the shower their people; other cats will play in a washtub filled with water or a wading pool outside, so if you’re lucky enough to have a kitty cat who enjoys water sports, give him a place to indulge!

Im pretty sure my cat Whiskers has Maine Coon genes in him. I know he is not full, because even though from nose to bum he is 24 inches long, he is only 10 pounds, but he has a lot of the characteristics of them, including the whole water thing! When we lived in our apartment we couldnt brush our teeth without him flicking at or trying to grab the running water, or do dishes, cook, anything to do with water. And on occasion, he would sit in the tub while i showered, and if you run water into the sink, he has to get in it and “chase” it. He is fascinated by water that’s for sure, and I get a kick out of watching his reactions to it. He is not a big fan of having a bath and having me pour water over him, but he doesnt fus about it, he just lets me do my thing.

The first time I found our Bengal Queen doing figure 8s on my ankles while I was in the shower, it was quite a surprize.
    Her two sons also play.

In the summer we get out a kids pool, and go buy 1/2 dz goldfish. Put em in the pool, grab an iced tea and a lawn chair and watch the entertainment :-)

I’ve had seveeral cats during my life that loved water. My first was a Persian I got for my 12th birthday. We would go swimming in a friends pool, and Smokey would go with us. Our friends Mother would be sitting there with a towel to dry him off. Now I have a Bengal family, and can usually find them waiting in the wash basins or the bathtub.

Gizmo, my tuxedo cat loves to sit in the shower with me. He also has a little yellow rubber ducky he plays with in the tub.

I LOVE how enthusiastic your kitties are about splish-splashing in water – and I would love to do a segment on this topic with you on my new radio show DOG TALK & CAT CHAT, live on Saturday nights starting Oct 24th
The show is Saturday night at 10 PM EST on WOR in NYC (and it also streams live on the WOR710 website)
Is there a Saturday at that hour in November when you might be free to call in? I’ll bet many other listeners will call in when they hear about your “bathing beauties”
So we can find a time you’ll all be available, please write me to dogandcatbibles@gmail.com and let me know if you are willing and able!

We use to have a cat named Prissy that went into the shower with my sister. We now have a cat that will drink out of the sink and slap at the water when she’s done!
