Cat Tips

Long, flowing draperies add softness to a room but they can also bring out your kitty’s playful side, leaving hair behind on the fabric and possibly rips and tears.

The solution? Choose shades and blinds that go up and down, and stop at the sill. Keep them raised up and out of paw’s reach until you need privacy. If cords are too tempting for your feline, consider remote controlled window shades that lift and lower with the push of a button.\

    Hi Maryann,

I have to somewhat disagree with your suggestion for blinds that go up and down. My kitty kats (the two girls) are very quick to destroy brand new mini blinds by breaking off the outer ends when they insist on peeking out the windows. I have replaced all of mine, many times, only to forget to raise them and walk away to come back to the room with BRAND NEW blinds destroyed. I say that vertical blinds are the best bet…. leave them free swinging and just to the sill height. And my two girls don’t give a rat’s behind about my privacy, they break them in the middle of the night. I have no privacy…lol I like to go to sleep with my TV on in my bedroom and I have peep holes in my blinds. NO joke!

    Hi Sheryll,
I have tried mini-blinds (they break and bend easily) and also the vertical blinds (my cats open them and there goes my privacy). What works for me are the 2″ wood horizontal ones. The only problem is the cords. They do make cordless ones though. Now I need a solution for the sliding doors.

What about kitty scampering up the screen should you have side sliding window and open it for AIR and up he goes pulling the screen out. I’ve since kept that window closed but would sure like the option of a cross breeze. The windows that go up only go half way so he sees no need to climb but does dig a hole in it when sitting in the bay window musing about the evergreen bush right outside it. Can I spray anything on the screens? I keep my blinds up half way and he is OK with that so far. But I can’t put them down until I’m ready to go to bed and upstairs.

Stylish windows are very attractive to have. With the use of window coverings such as blinds, shades and curtains would really help to make your own windows fashionable and colorful to have. This would really look good on your old window as well.

It’s a smart idea to keep window treatments simple in a child’s room. They should be light, ethereal and minimal.
