When your cat has a headache, can he reach for the aspirin?
According to Vet Info, it is possible to give cats aspirin in very low doses. It is recommended that 10mg/lb of body weight or one of the 81mg adult chewable aspirin tablets be given, whichever is less medication. Aspirin stays in a cat’s system for 72 hours(!) though, so dose infrequently. Too much aspirin can be toxic, as can any amount of Acetaminophen, so skip the Tylenol and Excedrin. And, as with every medication, make sure you talk to your vet first. |

How would I know my cat had a headache? What symptoms would my cats show?
How do you know your cat has a headache?
This is great and all but how am I supposed to know if my cat has a headache?! Is it when he turns down sex?
I was being facetious but, I apologize, that didn’t come through.
I do think Danielle has hit on a good indicator.
Murray 1 used to cover his eyes with his paw or bury his face to keep light out of his eyes. We figured he had a headache when he did that.
Another sign is when they stay in bed in the morning after a big night out.
A headache? You are joking of course? I would not give any of my babies such, without my vet telling me to do so…….. how in the heck do I know if my kitty kats have a headache? Mine are always active… and if not, then they go see our Doc.
All of my babies are inside only kitty kats and big brother pup.
My cat Garfield gets sinus headaches-vet diagnosed.I was advised to give him an otc drug called Orrudis which I did for several months. My current vet advised against it, saying it could lead to kidney damage.I have always been advised against aspirin for cats. You can tell that a cat has a headache like you would a person.Garf squints, is quiet, looks miserable and just looks at me.A good head masasage has been the remedy lately but I would consider half a baby aspirin after this article.I also put in the when one of us showers. It helps alot,if he doesnt get in the tub!.
Thank you so much for the medication information! And the headache information. I did wonder if cats and dogs could get headaches like humans – afterall, they get stomachaches. I would just caution to check with your vet first about the aspirin because he or she will know your kitty’s blood tests and thus kidney function. Thanks again!
