Cat Tips

If you’re tired of having clay kitty litter piercing your bare feet, move the litter box into the bath tub. It’s easy enough for your cat to get into the tub, where he’ll even have a little extra privacy. And you can just send any small amounts of spilled litter down the drain when you take a shower. Keeps the dog from eating kitty pies too.

I use stuff for the litter from wood, it’s nice and bigger pieces, if he throws out any, easier to clean up and better for the environment.

No, not in the tub, unless you want to clog the drain.

Harry – I’ve kept the cat litter in the tub for at least 20 years without ever having litter clog the drain.

I should have added that we use clay litter. The clumping kind certainly would cause problems

That’s the worst advice I’ve ever heard. How unsanitary, and it would clog drains! Yuck!

Keeping the litter pan in the tub has never caused a clogged a drain in anyplace I’ve lived in the past 25 years.

Also, my cats have always been pretty neat with their litter :>)

I use clumping liter, haven’t used anything but Scoop Away for years. I don’t put it in the shower or tube – our bathroom is too small. It is easy to clean the box and it kind of masked some oders – some, not all. I have two boys, one, my older boy is 12, the other is a feral boy who lived on our place all winter and I worked at winning his trust and in April he took a giant step, he is our other indoor/outdoor kitty now. However, he loves his indoor plumbing so much, he uses the litter box instead of outdoors!!! He’s so cute, comes racing in and hops in the box and does his jobs! So who recommends what brands and for what reasons??? I like the ease of clumping, however they do track it out of box. I rarely dump out any litter, just keep the box cleaned up all the time and add more litter!!!

This is a good idea, but only if you are using a natural, non-clay litter.

If you are not already aware of the dangers to your cat’s health and the devastation to the environment caused by clay litter, PLEASE read this post:

I guess i’ve been lucky that i’ve never had a plumbing problem as a result of keeping the cat’s box with clay litter in the tub. But after reading your comments, I’ll take it out of there. Thanks guys!
