Cat Tips

by Janine Kahn,

If your cats are not getting along, there are some fundamental issues you need to look at, above and beyond the fact that cats have individual personalities and may perceive territorial divisions. How many cats are in the colony (one too many can upset a previous balance), how the cats were originally introduced, the health status of each of them, and how their person handles their squabbles all have to be factored in when trying to sort out a harmonious home.

My sister just moved in with her husband and two cats. I two cats of my own but only one of them gets along with, at least, one of my sister’s cats. My other cat continues to growl and hiss at her cats. One of my sister’s cats keeps instigating my cat’s reaction to them by becoming aggressive with her. What should i do?

Separate those cats immediately! Before any more bad feelings surface and become impossible to change, the new cats need to go in a “safe room” in your house and introductions can then be made slowly and methodically. THE CAT BIBLE lays out a whole plan for the re-introduction of cats who don’t like each other. But my website has lots of tips on this and Q&A’s and Blogs that deal with it.
